Zuckerberg backed an obviously dead platform. It was dead the day HP announced it would develop (as in, completely f up) WebOS. Who didn't see this coming?

Perhaps it's time to do a CEO upgrade at Facebook.

Should have known better than to pass over Apple in favour of HP "me-too"-ware.

Of course Jobs was livid. He had every damn reason to be.

The icon on other sites for sharing it on Facebook, google +, etc is down to that website choosing to put it there, Facebook didn't, so you should blame the sites you visit for that....

I think you may have misunderstood my comment. I'm not placing blame on anybody. I'm simply stating that I'm tired of it; not that a social media site, or anyone else, is doing me an injustice.

It's just marketing, which is inescapable.

Well, seeing as I watched on the news this morning about Facebooks 'accident' with cookies and tracking your usage etc. I am even more happy I ditched my account before Facebook's "Privacy" got to the state it's in now.
Seriously, they couldn't care less, the more money Facebook can make out of selling your details or tracking your usage from, the better.

1. Please don't integrate F***book with iOS.
2. Surely, the iPad is fast enough to run facebook on it's browser by now. Is it the NO FLASH thing. GEEEEZEEE.

This won't be the straw that breaks the camels back but if it does happen it will be a mighty big straw, more like a tree. Just my opinion. I know most people like F***book, I don't. And I don't like little icons popping up everywhere asking me to go to facebook or favorite this or plus one that. Screw these sites, if I want to go there, I will. I know how to get to facebook.
Well Said!

Facebook is an incredibly important company

Get a grip on reality, please.

Facebook and "incredibly important" will not ever belong in the same sentence.

"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me."
Many people forget this. But that's what you get with the US "me" mentality.
The "me" mentality equals anything that benefits me is the best. And screw anyone else no matter who they are. And in this mindset doing something for the good of others or in the public's interest is an impossibility. Because their mind is 100% focused on themselves.

THinking of people other then yourself is a very nice humble thing. Something Mark Zuckerburg has not yet once done in his life.

Which could go back to your original quote. Perhaps Mark needs to get fired so that he can have his "Steve Jobs" rebirth. The guy wants so badly to be Steve Jobs as it is....
I agree. Jobs axing taught Jobs a little humility. Sure he's still as arrogant as ever. But at least now he respects his staff and customers. And makes products with their interests in mind.

Zuckerburg needs a dose of humility to him the sun does not shine out of his ass. He's not the most important person in the world. Once he realises this, he will be much better for it. And his Facebook will be a much better product.

And those harping on Jobs being "furious," if a business partner of yours lied to your face like Zuckerberg did to jobs you'd be pretty steamed too. It breads a lack of trust.
If Apple lied to Zuckerburg, he would be so mad. So it's expected Apple would be mad after being lied to.

Facebook is lucky all major OS's can use Facebook. But if you have a foot on all camps then no matter how the marketshare of all OS's is, you still have 100% of them using facebook. But if you burn your shot of iOS, then all the iOS users won't use facebook on their iPads. And this means no 100% interaction with facebook. And the more popular iOS is, the less facebook users there will be.

Facebook's best shot at the moment is no make the best facebook. And play nice with all the Major OS's makers. MS, Apple and Google. Facebook need 100% of users to be potential facebook users.

All things do come full circle. Those you burn on the up, you will meet again on the way down. And remind you of how you burned them previously. Not the Zuckerburg cares. He only cares about his personal billions. At the current rate he is milking facebook for all it's worth. His personal cash cow. And will run it into the ground. Sad but true.

Get a grip on reality, please.
Facebook and "incredibly important" will not ever belong in the same sentence.
You don''t get it. So here is a little education for you.
Facebook in incredibly important.
Why?

Millions of users worldwide
Billions of dollars involved
Part in current internet culture
Obviously important enough for non facebook rumour sites (like this one) to print their own opinion words on them.
Important enough for a movie to be made about it
etc etc

I think you get the point.

If where Apple is now is the result of "Steve Jobs holding the company back", then the whole industry should be very, very afraid what happens if Apple makes "some real progress". :D

Steve Jobs managed to be in the right place at the right time four times in a row: First Apple, then Next, then Pixar, then again Apple. Looks like a little bit more than luck to me.

Well, I think Apple is more than the Monkey on top.

I think it's the developers, designers, engineers etc, etc...

Do you really think Steve Jobs was there with a Lab coat examining what people were working on ?

The products just happened on the backs of unsung Hero's.

SJ has nothing to do with their success.

If Anything : They would have dominated the entire market if it weren't for his emotional baggage.

They are still about 10%

He is like a Republican. He will sacrifice the well being of his own "Company" (USA for those of you who can't follow an analogy) to prove a point.

Apple is still successful and they would have been anyway's without him.

He is just a face and a false idol (Sorry I'm a militant Atheist)

I don't understand why everyone worships a freakin' CEO ?!?!?

He's part of the problem !

Just look at the BS with Adobe.

Grow up people , or sell your stock and put your money where your mouth is

"90 days from Bankruptcy"
Does those words from a Jobsless Apple remind you of anything.
Apple without Jobs return would just be a page in a history book now and not the most valuable company in the world.

Not just jobs though. But he was a team of many (including Ive, Cook, Forstall, Johnson etc etc) that Apple needed to return to the top. Remove any one of them so they never worked at Apple and you don't have Apple. Jobs included.

So the words from you I quoted are false.

PS. Your forum signature comes off as slightly arrogant to me.

Keep on believing and twisting things however you want.

Apple Fans are kind of a club now.

I've been with Apple since the Apple 2gs

And I'm not here to pick a fight.

I think you drank the Cool Aid

Except Zuckerberg and his co. had nothing to do with the Facebook support on webOS. Way to instantly side with Apple without learning the facts.

Exactly! It's so tiring! I guess Apple believes only IT is allowed to have a native FB app.

The relative net worth between the two is hardly a good measure of the quality of business man between the two.

We'll see how long Mark Z keeps his billions.

You have absolutely NO clue how long he'll keep his billions. You're projecting simply because you don't like the guy.

That's right! Neg away a**holes!

What are you a Mystery minion or something?

Facebook has hit the wall and is trying to avoid he fate of MySpace. They're clearly scared and trying to transform FB into something new and different. Outright lying to Apple (and especially to Steve, personally) was a huge mistake. I would never trust a company that played me for a fool. Apple needs to approach this from what is in it for Apple and let FB make all of the concessions.

I would never trust Apple based on your logic. They have lied and screwed over other companies time and time again.
This is a case of Apple acting like a big baby.

Sources indicate that Facebook was fully aware of the positions and plans of both Apple and HP, but was attempting to play both sides for maximum benefit and only turned its back on HP when it became clear that its relationship with Apple was in danger of disintegrating completely.

Yet another reason in the first quote as to why if the second quote ever became true I would in a heart beat DROP iOS, no blinking, no flash back. I would keep an iPhone for the apps ONLY. But I would NEVER NEVER NEVER NEvER support an OS with Facebook heavily integrated as I will NEVER trust Facebook.
They are the worst scum of the internet bubble company's! It was even worst when a film about how a person utterly abused peoples trust for self gain won a fecking Academy!

Sorry, I just seriously hate Facebook for it's attitude and ethics, well lack off!

Interesting backstory on the app's history on both platforms. Seems a foolish game for Facebook to play. Only a couple days left to see if anything gets announced at the event.

Facebook is a service that many people use. If you want special treatment from Facebook and have a special app made for you so you can be better, you give them the best offer you can, and maybe they'll take you up on that offer. You don't demand it, like you're entitled to it. Apple needs to grow up. And the people that think Facebook did something wrong to Apple needs to grow up. Apple is a big boy, and they don't need you to coddle it or make excuses for it.

Dearest Mr. Gates,

Your disjointed rant is giving atheists a bad name. You might want to consider why you find your writing on this forum such a cathartic for yourself.

So, here's my response.

Steve founded two companies, Apple and Next, and purchased assets from Industrial Light and Magic that he renamed Pixar. Next was purchased by Apple at a point in time when even Sun was not interested in a purchase, with Steve Jobs becoming the interim CEO of Apple, and eventually the CEO folloewed recently the Chairman of the Board of Apple. Next software is the basis of OSX and iOS. Apple has gone from near bankrupcy to the highest valued company in the world.

In Pixar's case, every film was a critical and financial success while he was CEO, and only recently was that streak broken by the release of Cars II, which is acknowledged to be targeted toward sales of merchandise. Steve Jobs sold Pixar to Disney where he remains the largest stockholder and on the Disney Board of Directors.

Being an atheist, I'm assuming that you don't believe in luck, so I would ask you, what common thread do you see amongst this success other than Steve Job, or is it your belief that all of these talented designers, engineers and developers are merely flash mobbing 1 Infinite Loop?

You pointed out a few minor events in the life of SJ

He has to do something right ?

I'm saying the product speaks for itself. The creators are to thank and that is why we buy.

I'm too bored to go over all of the other tires arguments that you got wrong, check ...I dunno Um Wikipedia or Google.

I stated my case.

As for the Atheist thing, its about disliking the blind worship and questioning the reality of the situation.

Really, anyone could have done what he did.

The team comes up with a product and he trots on stage....the people say Ouuuuu and Ahhhhh

Facebook has public APIs to write these apps, how are they supposed to block anyone ? That would be like saying Apple's website is not a public service and that they can stop any company from making HTTP requests to it. Face it, this story is bunk or Steve just doesn't understand and blew up for nothing.

Actually, they, like smugmug, google, etc, would be able to block somebody because integration typically involves the use of a token string given to you by the data source.

This is why when you have third party apps that integrate with Facebook, they're able to pop up a message saying something like "do you want xyz app to interact with your profile" and accurately name what it is and what it does.

Blocking your token and not giving you a new one means that while you wrote a FB interface app yourself, you're limited in what you're able to do with it.
