Like, oh my god, he's soooooo hot and he tots knew that Steve liked him but he did it anyways. Then, like, he totally posted on his facebook that he let him get to second base and, OMG!!!!!!!!!, Steve was SOOOOOO mad but Mark was like, "he doesn't even like you anyways" but Steve was like, "so what you knew I liked him you bitch". Turns out though, that Ryan was already going out with Jim but they had a big fight and he just wanted to make him jealous so that's why he went out with Mark but then JIM found out and OMG was he SOOOOO mad so then they broke up then that creep tried to go out with Mark again but he was SOOOO over it. This won't be the straw that breaks the camels back but if it does happen it will be a mighty big straw, more like a tree. Just my opinion. I know most people like F***book, I don't. And I don't like little icons popping up everywhere asking me to go to facebook or favorite this or plus one that. Screw these sites, if I want to go there, I will. I know how to get to facebook.

+1 (million.)

Both companies would sure benefit from collaborating, but apparently FB thought they would benefit more from working with HP and so they prioritized that, isn't that standard business practice? "Standard business practice" is quite often used around here to excuse all the.

If they believed that then they were idiots. And we know that if there is one thing that Jobs can't stand, it's idiots running businesses.

Not sure whom you're talking about, but I doubt he's a douchebag. He could be asking for special treatment because we pay the most for everything the UN wants to do. When they're thinking about making some military move or helping some country, they don't ask Great Britain or Canada. Without the US there is no UN. That's why we should get special treatment.

Are you talking about 20 years ago? Nowadays, the USA isn't as important. The USA is going to become just another country very soon. It depends if the USA invents another war or they build a giant fence in the border with Mexico, they will fall faster.

HP may have been doing the app themselves but Zukerberg is the one that says yea or nay. He was playing both sides. He should have known better.

As for HP I have no sympathy for them.

Uh ? If I write a Facebook app in my basement, Zuckerberg has nothing to do with it.

Do you seriously believe Facebook is a public service ?

Facebook has the legal right to keep any company from creating a Facebook app.

Facebook has public APIs to write these apps, how are they supposed to block anyone ? That would be like saying Apple's website is not a public service and that they can stop any company from making HTTP requests to it. Face it, this story is bunk or Steve just doesn't understand and blew up for nothing.

This is not looking good for Steve in my book, makes him look irrational. If Apple wanted a Facebook app for iPad so bad, they should have done like HP and wrote the thing themselves.

It is about the support for every kind of data Facebook allows to access the app-maker. Look at all the Facebook apps. They are just web versions of the website instead of a proper UI for a mobile-like app.

So Apple needs Facebook support to access some of their APIs so as to make a useful app. It's fairly common sense.

I'm quite sure that Apple will integrate Facebook into iOS. I don't need it, but in my opinion an integration of google+ would be the better idea (if they think long-term)..

Apple shouldn't be integrating any of these social medias into iOS at all. What they should be doing and what every smart software vendor does is provide a social media integration framework.

That way, anyone can integrate their own service into iOS by adding buttons to e-mail, pictures, videos, safari or any other app that can also use the social media integration framework. That way, you get the "Share to facebook" button only if you have the actual facebook app installed. Same for twitter or G+.

Hard coding support for social media networks is inane and a throwback to the 1980s. We have much better software designs in this day and age.

Uh, with a 10" screen the iPad can browse the web normally... Why can't you just visit facebook.com on your iPad? Why do you need a special app?

While twitter has a mobile version of their website tailored for the iPad, I find their iPad app much more enjoyable to use. A FaceBook app would just be easier to use, and I've always been dumbfounded before now, as to why it was never there on the iPad.

I personally don't care at all for FB, so ranting will get me nowhere. But I do have to ask:

I know that FB is always slipping in (pun intended) new privacy settings all the time to allow this, or that blah blah.

Does anyone even worry or bother they know your in the bathroom? Better yet, why is it now so accepting share everything about habits with strangers, or friends w/strangers? I don't get it. Furthermore how will Apple implement your settings with FB constant changing privacy policy's?

Is there anybody iApple Gadget Inc. doesn't have a strained relationship with?
Well, besides their grovelling cultists, propoganda "news" media and pr circus. :D

Facebook is an incredibly important company that has 750 million users and is growing. They know their worth and are acting like it. It gives them more weight in negotiations and that's completely fair. Apple uses their clout too. This is no "one trick pony"; Facebook has iterated faster than anyone when everyone was hopping on their service and asking them to leave it as is. And it's only made them more successful, more sticky, more profitable. People feel passionately about Facebook because it's where they foster their relationships and where they put their life stories. They give you the tools, but if a person is annoying their friends or posting too much, that is their fault and not Facebook's.

Apple needs Facebook more than Facebook needs Apple. Facebook is a website so their Apple fans will continue to come. But Facebook is also a platform and if others are bragging about tighter integration, this may lead to different buying habits for 750 million up to (soon I think) 1 billion people. Facebook is about friends and family. Apple is about self. Both are important and together they make a better product.

Why is a Facebook App the End all Be All?

Why is it Tech Journalist make it such a big deal that there is no "official" facebook app for the iPad? I could understand the obsession with this story if there wasn't already 10 facebook apps available.

1. Please don't integrate F***book with iOS.
2. Surely, the iPad is fast enough to run facebook on it's browser by now. Is it the NO FLASH thing. GEEEEZEEE.

1 - like twitter, it will be an opt-in thing, off by default, so your comment is a non-issue.
2 - it's got nothing to do with the iPad's browser's speed, the iPad has been able to run the Facebook site in its browser since it came out, but, and this is the key thing, it's not fully functional, in the sense of you cannot use chat, you cannot upload photos or videos, there's more than that, but there's just some key points.

Why is it Tech Journalist make it such a big deal that there is no "official" facebook app for the iPad? I could understand the obsession with this story if there wasn't already 10 facebook apps available.

it's not just tech journalists, there's tons of people, there's even a lot of people on this forum that want's an official facebook app, the unofficial ones are buggy, unreliable, rubbish, plus no guarantee they're not pinching your info for themselves.

Facebook should have told Apple to quit whining...the fact Apple gets mad at Facebook wouldn't have stopped any iPad/iPhone/iPod users from using Facebook. If it was so important to Apple why didn't they write their own Facebook app?

So it was always Steve Jobs holding the company back with his hot head and spoiled brat mentality. He never did work well with others.

Now that he's gone we should see some real progress

If where Apple is now is the result of "Steve Jobs holding the company back", then the whole industry should be very, very afraid what happens if Apple makes "some real progress". :D

He has been lucky, but so was Gates and Jobs and the others. They were in the right place at the right time but they all capitalized on their ideas. That is usually a common thread among the uber wealthy. Mark Z's success is far from just luck. As you said, time will tell how long he keeps or what he does business wise during his life. He does have a lot to learn, just as Steve and Bill did when they were in their 20's. Their business skills matured as they aged, maybe Mark's will too. Who knows?

Steve Jobs managed to be in the right place at the right time four times in a row: First Apple, then Next, then Pixar, then again Apple. Looks like a little bit more than luck to me.

Zuckerberg is probably one of the only people that could pretty much say F U to Steve/Apple and not care all that much. And that no doubt pisses Steve off because what he wants, he gets.

This is about ego - not about product.

You celarly haven't investigated Facebook's ridiculous API.

A decent facebook client requires their cooperation. A via the normal API, an app can not write to the Messages (inbox), can't access the streaming API, nor does it have proper permissions to do the vast majority of things that the iPhone Facebook client can.

Other than the graph (activity stream), the APi is almost entirely read only.

Wondered why there aren't any other Facebook clients? There's your answer.
