It's not about being made in China, it's about a Chinese company potentially having access to my data.
In modern age it is much better when foreign company owns your data.

Competition is good for everyone, I wish them well!
I don't see the vast majority of Americans who can't even pronounce Huawei purchasing this over the many other more recognizable options.
They aren't content with 90% of the global PROFIT share, which is why we often see articles about apple looking to penetrate the China, India, etc. markets.Since when does Apple care about significant market share? They're content with 90% of the global PROFIT share.
This is a very short sighted comment.I doubt Apple cares at all. And I don't either.
Genuine question - what's stopping you from buying the Mate 9 on amazon or something and simply using it on Tmobile?I really wish T-Mobile would carry Huawei. I was seriously interested in the Mate 9.
The real question is, is how much AT&T are going to be paid to flog this phone. They won't be doing it out of the goodness of their heart but to make money. To do that they need margin and lots of it. Either a payment or a huge discount would be needed to carry it.So is AT&T hoping to repeat history here? They gambled in the iPhone when most wouldn't and it worked out well for them. I don't foresee that happening again with any phone.
Huawei make the hardware, well at least the upgrade to the Masts 3G>4G for EE 4G cells (EE largest mobile network in UK).
I have a Huawei 4G wifi router as I cant get landline broadband where I live.
So I rely on Huawei for internet access 100%
Huawei have the knowledge of the workings of the mobile network and infrastructure so I'd say they're well placed to challenge Apple & Samsung in smartphone sales.

If you do not view any new entrant into the market as a threat...you are already done.
Look at Microsoft and Blackberry.
Also, there is a reason why Apple is going a huge push in China right now...
Huawei is no more competition for the iPhone than Samsung or LG... it's just another Android phone manufacturer.
It IS competition for other Android manufacturers. In the US at least, most of the dust has settled and you're either in the iPhone camp or the Android camp. iPhone users aren't going to switch to Huawei phones any more than they are to Samsung phones. They might, however, switch to Huawei from Samsung.
But if they beat Apple and force Apple out of the market, where will they get their designs from?
Unfortunately, some Americans think if they haven't heard of the brand or can't personally pronounce it, the brand doesn't exist in the world.
Huawei could become the best-selling smartphone OEM in the world... surpassing Apple and Samsung.
But they will be doing it by selling smartphones with an average selling price of ~$250
If you're gonna try to outsell the iPhone... at least do it with a similarly priced product. Have some pride!
We know over a billion cheap Android smartphones get sold every year. So Huawei's goal isn't really special if you think about it.
Genuine question - what's stopping you from buying the Mate 9 on amazon or something and simply using it on Tmobile?
Rephrase that - 5 years from nowHuawei is as much a competitor to Apple as Chinese cars are competitors to Ferrari.
Huawei's flagship phones (P10 and Mate 9) are at the same price level as iPhone and Samsung's flagship models.
