Huawei Closing in on Apple, Aims to Become World's Largest Smartphone Maker Within Four Years

China has bad reputation for espionage. Also, Apple and Samsung each has a very solid fan base... It's going to be tough battle.
Yes. Samsung really seem to have very strong fan base.. Almost no one around me in real life is led down by the battery incident and Samsung admiting their mistake even enhanced the reputation.

If they want to make a dent in the US market, theyneed to drop their god awful UI and stick stock Android on their phones.
Motorola tried stock android and lost market share eventually getting bought by Lenovo. There is no proof that stock android helps sell phones. Samsung is doing just fine without stock android.

You haven't had to deal with their Emotion UI. Take it from a guy who had suffered an earful and sleep on a lumpy sofa for several weeks. Stock Android is way, WAY better than what Huawei's software.

One more thing, Huawei's hardware is superior to Moto's for at the same price range.

They have to at least be in the US market to dominate and give Apple a run for their money. For the most part, this will make Apple keep on their toes and not lag, not remaking the same phone and just upgrading here and there then give it a new name.

Competition is always good for the industry.

The P9 Lite is a damn good phone for very little money. And extremely popular
I can easily see Huawei skyrocket (even more) within short time.

Nokia could also become very interesting, depending on their choices/plan

Maybe next time I go buy a new car I'll grab my ankles and proclaim how much more I paid over invoice. Still strange abnormal consumer behavior though.

These phones boast incredible hardware, but none of them are compatible with a lot of U.S. antenna bands so you can think twice about getting 4G network.

I can see no one can pull the wool over your eyes, no siree bob.
What wool. There's no wool. Things are clear to see.
Many U.S. products are built in China. To become a U.S. made product, certain criteria needs to be met, even when these come from China.
So... what's the problem?

Thousands of low-priced Android phones are reportedly sending user data to China.

What else is new, right?

Phone sales people are pushing non iPhones aggressively. A friend was persuaded at the point of sale to buy one of these. Not only that, they actually spent more than they would have getting an iPhone. Something is wrong.

I have a friend in the carrier business in China and in my opinion that Huawei should keep growing their carrier networking equipment business instead of low margin smartphones. BTW in RAN (Radio Access Network) equiptment, Huawei was first in the industry to do the SingleRAN concept and IP RAN backhaul. They also for a while had the HIGHEST GSM/UMTS network performance of any vendor on the planet beating the European vendors (Ericsson, Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent) by about 10-15%. This was the basis of winning network contracts in A LOT of countries (e.g. Bell/TELUS in Canada, Telcel in Mexico, Vodafone in Europe, China Unicom, SoftBank Japan, etc, etc.)
