Your comment sounds like elitist, where only Apple is innovating. Most of the tech incorporated into Apple’s hardware is from 3rd party innovation, including gasp OLED and Qi
Are you afraid that a Far-East Asian company or companies can innovate and Apple requires them to manufacture the “affordable” hardware for your consumption. Apple requires China and India more so than those companies people need Apple, just look at the hardware numbers and usage of iOS to a Android in China and India who have the worlds largest population or even South America. Why such a smug attitude?![]()
Please. His comment is 100% accurate.
Android vendors (and even Google themselves) are notorious for throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. All so they can claim to be "first" at something.
Look at the Motorola Atrix fingerprint sensor as an example. Complete garbage with a failure rate so high that if you owned one of these devices for any length of time there was almost a 100% chance it would fail. Then Apple released TouchID which worked great from day one. Even Samsung's version the following year was garbage until they finally caught up 2 years later by which time Apple was already using a second generation system.
And when Apple is first with something they all act like it's nothing important or not needed. I remember people claiming 64bit mobile processors aren't required when Apple surprised the entire industry with the A7. Comments like "you need over 4GB of RAM to take advantage of 64bit" (when they clearly don;t understand the difference between 64 bit addressing and a 64bit instruction set) or "there's no Apps to take advantage of it" when developers released powerful versions of their software within days of it coming out to use that 64bit processor. Meanwhile they all scrambled behind the scenes to bring their own to market and now 64bit is standard (though 5 years later they STILL aren't anywhere near Apple for processors).
Sorry to break it to you, but the smartphone industry revolves around Apple and the iPhone.
Meanwhile in the upside down world, Apple was first to introduce OLED, Qi, and invented the TouchID sensor and multi-touch that was invented years before the iPhone was even conceived. Does implementation equal innovation or the individual parts? TouchID 1G was not perfect, 2G improved vastly.
Other manufacturers had a notch display years before Apple, however lets believe Apple invented that too. I just call it as it is, you prefer Apple’s implementation within their devices, nothing wrong with that, it does not mean other companies are wrong. Look at the two/three camera implementation on iPhone, are you telling me others have not done that. What is good or not is subjective?
Not sure I have any idea what you’re saying, but I think it’s that somehow FaceID on anything prior to the iPad Pro was A) some sort of malfunctioning beta, and B) somehow analogous to the Galaxy Fold dumpster fire. Please verify before I roll my eyes.
Yeah, except that NOBODY has ever claimed Apple invented fingerprint sensors, notched displays, OLED displays or wireless charging. So why are you making stuff up that isn't true?
That's really RICH coming from Huawei.
Every tech company that has at least a decade of existence has announced or released a product that either had flaws or the technology wasn’t quite there yet to really make it a success. Including Apple.Waiting to bring reliable tech to market > rushing to prove that you're more innovative than Apple.
Doesn't matter. Not like it's gonna sell in the US anyway.
Oh, is this a US only site now?
New operating system - barely tested -, new radical design - tested by Samsung and a miserable fail! - and a ban in the US, seriously, what can go wrong…!
I feel like this is trying to be a solution to a problem that nobody has. Meanwhile, actually using this gimmick bit of un-ripe tech causes actual (and severe) problems. I am all for R&D, but that's what this is right now, to use it in products at this point is irresponsible.
Nope the attitude on these forums is that Apple is the sole innovator on this planet. I get it we are all Apple users and fans to whatever degree, that does not mean other companies are not pushing the innovation envelope. Some years Apple introduces its innovative implementation other years another company, this is how the industry works by borrowing from others that works or not. It does not mean it’s wrong it just means some companies are willing to try. If Apple is the only company innovating the entire tech industry is doomed, diversity even in this industry is welcomed.
I certainly would not want a Steve Jobs running Apple, another HP, IBM, etc how boring is that we need different approaches and lines of implementation.
Most would agree that Googles NightSight is above and beyond anything Apple presently has, yet we don’t question why that is. Always quick to defend Apple are we![]()
You and I must be reading VASTLY different threads on this forum. I see a LOT more commenters trashing Apple than I see them praising Apple
Previously an Atrix owner. Can confirm. THE worst fingerprint scanner in history.Please. His comment is 100% accurate.

I remember months ago when I was saying these looked like crap and the quality and technology wasn’t there yet and I was getting told I was an Apple “fanboy”. Sure is looking like I and those who shared that view were right.
Huawei today confirmed it is delaying the launch of its Mate X foldable smartphone from June to September for quality assurance purposes.

Huawei's Mate X
A spokesperson for Huawei said the Chinese smartphone maker is being more "cautious" after some reviewers experienced embarrassing display issues with Samsung's foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold. "We don't want to launch a product to destroy our reputation," the spokesperson told CNBC.
Samsung delayed the launch of the Galaxy Fold back in April and plans to announce a new release date "in the coming weeks," according to CNET.
Last month, the Trump administration added Huawei to a trade blacklist over alleged national security concerns, effectively forbidding U.S. companies from doing business with the Chinese smartphone and telecom giant, but a Huawei executive said that supply chain issues are not behind the delay.
Huawei is instead postponing sales of the Mate X in part to improve the quality of the device's folding screen, said Vincent Peng, a senior vice president at Huawei, on the sidelines of a Wall Street Journal tech conference in Hong Kong.
Adhering to the ban, Google parent company Alphabet previously said it will no longer license Android to Huawei for its smartphones after a 90-day reprieve granted by the U.S. government expires in August. In this event, Peng said Huawei could have its own Hongmeng operating system ready by early next year.
"Our preference will of course be Google and Android as we have been partners for many years," said Peng, according to Reuters. "But if the circumstances force us to, we can roll out Hongmeng in six to nine months."
It is unclear if Apple will ever release a folding iPhone, but it has certainly explored the idea in patents. The technology is not cheap, with Huawei's Mate X expected to start at $2,600 in the United States, and clearly is not without its issues either as evidenced by Huawei's and Samsung's struggles.

Huawei has a working 5G, Apple has 4G, Intel has decided not to play. Yes, Huawei has a reputation in China, just as Apple has in America, Samsung in A.Korea, Sony in Japan, etc.
You are falling into political nonsense, I would recommend waiting till all the facts are laid out

Working prototype like FaceID on iPhone X/XS/XR, the finished product is on iPad Pro![]()

Manufacturing is moving to other Asian countries, corporations will find a cheaper place to manufacture, Apple designs and controls manufacturing process so just because some company is manufacturing in China doesn't mean they are smart, those companies ate providing labor & space for manufacturing, Apple own everything there.
Android market share is high in Asia because people can buy Android phone for as low as 100$.
