Why? You can't really use the 6/6+ series without a case anyway. It's the only iPhone I've felt that way about. A bump just allows the best camera possible in a thinner frame. Now I'd love if Apple made a much grippier and durable iPhone 7, then I can go caseless again and wouldn't want a bump.

But a vinyl skin gets rid of the slippy back and you still have the camera bump to deal with.

Wow, I never realised Apple was the first ever to make different coloured mobile phones!

It's ridiculous how some people on here seem to think nothing existed in the mobile world tech space before Apple arrived... Yeah, Apple invented those colours, they have patented them and will no doubt be taking Huawei to court next week.

He was referring to the "colour palette", not just coloured phones in general. Since they're the very same colours as Apple's phones, yes, the palette was stolen to piggyback off of Apple's visibility in the marketplace. If it wasn't for that, this company would have my respect.

Huawai makes beautiful products, I have the Huawai Android Wear watch that I wear and it's beautiful and amazing quality and build, nice to have when I want to change up from the Apple Watch. I'm sure the phone will be quality to.

APPLE DIDNT INVENT THOSE COLORS!! THEY THOUGHT OF THEM ON THEIR OWN! APPLE COPIES OTHERS!

Just kidding. It's extremely obvious that their color palette was inspired by Apple's. And I'm not saying that's "bad" either, but it's silly to deny that. Sure, companies use different colors all the time. But you can't honestly say that they would have gone with those 4 specific colors had Apple not done it.

Not to mention they have a "regular" and "Plus" version. But Apple didn't invent the word Plus, so that's just a coincidence too!

I think monochrome camera it's kinda revolutionary, think about it..ultra power saving mode, that's one cool app that Samsung Galaxy it's missing

Someone at Huawei marketing snorted too much speed, before coming up with that one. Sadly, it doesn't work that way, otherwise we'd already have that feature in every camera.
That actually is one of the benefits of dual cameras (or a Lytro camera). You can use them to either refocus the picture or simulate optical zoom, I personally feel optical zoom would be the most beneficial of the two because with such small sensors, pretty much everything is in focus already.

Actually is f:2.2 , the article got it wrong. What's interesting is that the dual lenses is to feed two different sensors: one is RGB and the other is Monocrome. Not really sure what for, maybe better low light sensitivity. I'm also very curious of this laser focusing system and how it would work. In the features of the phone no "laser" is indicated. I am also doubtful about the post-focusing feature. But of course, Huawei has everything covered as you can read in the website:

"Disclaimer: specifications may change without notice, images are for illustration purpose only. Colour may vary, colours and features may not be available in all market"

What's impressive is that they got Leica to put their brand next to Huawei. I don't think it is a good move by Leica. We need to wait and see the results of this technology partnership when the first pictures come out.
Yeah it will be very interesting to see how these pictures actually turn out. By removing the color filter, the B&W sensor becomes much sharper and also like 3x more sensitive (and better at high ISO) but in dark conditions it will still need the color sensor for actual colors ;) it seems like that could be a problem to merge the two. It seems like this could be a good way to use the technology, but I think I would rather have simulated optical zoom. Unless there it is possible to have both.

This is a preview of what is going to come in September. Save the best for last...

anybody actually excited about the technology? i am... if the video isn't exaggerating the 'parallax' type separation of fore/mid/background - or the 'post-production' aspects to all of this - i'm damn excited for what apple does with it. the iPad pro 9.7(2) may end up being this (aspiring/amateur) filmmaker's wet dream this time next year..

if this tech sees light of day like that, and iMovie ramps up (or we see a FinalCut 'Light' for iOS) - expect to start seeing way more people creating a new indie-industry with their tablets... i suppose i say all this (rather than focus on the obvious average phone-photographer's enjoyment) because i'm in the pro tablet-as-camera camp. big time. even a phablet doesn't hold a candle to that sweet sweet 10" monitor.

What's stopping the new indie-industry now? I don't think tablets are revolutionary in that regard.

Besides, until phone/tablet cameras can compete with even current digital cinema cameras, I'd much rather "suffer" with a small monitor or run an external. And we're still a long way from that.

Dual cameras on a smartphone....
A gimmick in April, magical in September.

I know it's like trendy or whatever to pretend like this is funny.... but ummmm, yeah when the Motorola Atrix or whatever came out with a GARBAGE implementation of fingerprint sensor it was most certainly a useless gimmick.
However, years later- Apple's implementation was quite good. NOT a gimmick. Handy & secure.
To be fair... I hear Samsung's has got leaps & bounds better as well- & while their 1st iteration was too finicky to be used by many; the one now I also believe is similarly NOT a gimmick.

I think the september release cycle is hurting Apple from a marketing standpoint...but Im not sure if they should get rid of it. Hardware is not software...

  • Hardware competition arguably caught up with Apple
  • that means the biggest differentiating factor in the near future will be iOS
  • Which means Apple will have to redouble their efforts to make their platform that much more attractive.
This should make all loyal Apple users happy...competition is good.
  • One of the Chinese companies beats Apple to the punch. 2 phone models with 2 cameras.
  • Apple will release 1 model half a year later.

As a loyal Apple user this makes me sad.

The real story: let's slap a Leica brand and sell something for a premium.
That's pretty much about it. Huawei is pricing these at iPhone-level prices, meaning they are trying to gain Apple-like margins without doing the hard work (eg. actually provide support, etc).
The Nexus 6P is the only exception as it is a Google product.

Hey more competition is good, it keeps Apple innovating.
I don't think because they have the same or better xyz specs that means that
the phone is better than Apples but its always been the same, whether its the mac or the iPhone.
Android nor windows is IOS or Mac os.
And if people want to complain about the lens bump and then use their phones without a case
and then pay for a new one because that dropped it...go for it!
