Not true. Huawei still sells tons of phones in the US via Amazon and other online shops:

A couple of scrappy resellers on Amazon selling products with no warranty.
vs.

Vodafone UK and Bell Canada selling the Huawei P20 Pro on a 2-year term.

There's a huge difference.

The fact that Huawei climbed to #2 in spite of the ban in the U.S. on Huawei phones is impressive.

Copying pays off, only Xiaomi does it better, and cheap sells.

One has to be mindful of cultural politics in foreign nations. Foreign companies such as Apple pay a higher premium for the same if not similar components from various vendors, as opposed to a Chinese company purchasing components from another Chinese vendor. There are "invisible" cultural negotiations traffics if one can think of it as such. Similarly to how Apple provides discounts to various governments and corporations. It just business, Xiaomi and other can sell and produce for cheaper because their profit margins are lower and have a standing reputation amoung vendors being of the same country of origin.

People who are willingly purchasing Apple products understand their are paying the "tax" there is choice, if you are unaware then one has been living under a rock.

Goes both ways. Apple copying dual rear camera was not cheap either.

One has to love the double standard that Apple fans have. Features, functions and design is a cat and mouse scenario of this market space that Apple and other have willingly participated knowing very well of the possibility of either being copied or copying other companies. Why so naive?

I wrote off Huawei when the US banned sales. Sorry but, Buh bye.

Personally I wouldn’t want a cheap iPhone knock off, I like the real deal full experience. Huawei UI is severely lacking. Puhleez mention the elephant in the room.

If I was going to go android again I would go back to Samsung.

IMO I’d rather support South Korea and not China. Samsung hands down better.

Huawei and others sell in South America where Apple products are super expensive. While I am not dismissing that I am impressed by Huawei growth, i seems eventually iPhone will marketshare will slide similar to the Mac platform (as someone else mentioned prior).

Canadian telecom giants are the biggest ripoff to the unknowing and polite Canadian consumer. It is shameful how spineless the Canadian consumer is when it comes to telecom, I am ashamed.

Chinese companies typically don't have as high of margins as Apple.

It is a cultural mindset that western nations just don't understand (some people may who reside in western countries) and this extends to the corporate thinking as well. There is a bit of human behavioural science done on this comparison.

Buying iPhone you do support China. iPhone is made in China (an not just assembled, many components are made in China too). So, to avoid supporting China, perhaps you need to switch to Samsung phones.

My concern is not with the hardware manufacturers, it is with AndroidOS, what makes matters worse is that third-party manufacturers apply a skin on AndroidOS to make it unique, most of the time performance takes a hit. One Plus tries to keep it minimal.

Well duh. How on earth can our products compete in markets that tariff the crap out of American goods? The same iPhone 8 64GB sells for 790$US in China vs $699 in the US.

Uh not sure that's how it works. Apple phones ARE made in China. No tariffs applied as far as I know. The prices are based on markets. If anything, if China disrupts Apple's production then they would feel the crunch. But as it stands now tariffs do not affect sales in China.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Just like Apple laptops being more expensive in Europe. It's not because of tariffs, it's because of the market, what they can sell them for in a given area.

Huawei is succeeding because they're also building 4G and 5G networks in areas where they're selling smartphones. Their strategy is to come top down.

Apple is moving bottom up from the device level.

Sooner or later, we'll end up with a duopoly with Huawei in control of infrastructure + devices and Apple in control of devices. It'll be interesting to see who wins the battle in the long run.

I’m one of the apparently few who don’t mind the notch. I actually like it. And yet I’m fairly certain had Apple not launched the iPhone X with the notch, nobody else would have the notch as part of their design. It just looks so “me too” for so many others to do it.

The ban on Huawei is justified. China started this war years ago by banning Google, Twitter, Uber, Facebook and many other companies.

You make an interesting and valid point regarding the infrastructure aspect. Infrastructure is a very expensive endeavour. I concur it will be interesting in the not so long run :)

True, yeah can’t get away from Chinese parts but at least it’s assembled espionage free in the US with regulations. :D

I’d rather support Apple stores in America which employ Americans.

Which is a reason others, in countries where Apple has stores, can say same by supporting Apple who are employing thier own.

I’ll take Apple or Samsung any day over Huawei was my point, that’s all. I think they are a cheap copy cat with weak UI.
