Na uh, nanny, nanny, boo boo! How long are you willing to incorrectly state I am defending this product?
There’s nothing incorrect about me saying you’re defending this phone.

Poster: It’s really expensive.

You: “It's new technology so it's expected to be pricey.”

Me: Stop defending this phone. The display has a visible crease and looks crappy as a result. Unless you hold it just so, like you mentioned when you were defending it against another poster’s complaint that the screen was distorted.

First rule of holes: stop digging.

I’ve simply been responding to those that quote me. The concept of these devices is exciting for anyone who is a fan of tech. Unfortunately, the products released this week have too many compromises and don’t bring any value to customers. They were rushed because they are desperate for something new.

Really wish you’d stop doubling and tripling down on this. You already said you agreed some early adopters will like them, compromises or not. You’re artificially creating a fight by taking your personal opinion and masquerading it as some sort of objective fact. If you’d just end the statements with “for me,” this thread would be about half its length.

You mean like the original iPhone which lacked 3G capability? Like the original iPhone which lacked a camera? Like the original iPhone which lacked a way to install applications? Compromises just to rush it out the door. Unlike you, who waits for perfection, many people bought them and found them to have value. Funny that.

Yet here you are digging as fast as you can.

Completely Agree, but were just starting here. Future looks exciting.

EXACTLY! For a first iteration this looks like a fantastic product. It is nice to see companies pushing it and bringing something new.

Meanwhile Apple is working hard on a new set of emoticons, watch bands and thinner products with less battery life.

Huawei blatantly steals IP and is controlled by an authoritarian government that puts its own citizens into labor camps and executes political dissidents. I don’t really need to know much more. I know the US isn’t perfect either, but I’ll take it over China. (I’m not anti China, but their government is a constant human rights abuser.)
I am not going to argue about the merits of political systems but Apple does steal IP a lot. Have not you seen Apple found guilty in violating many patents in recent years? It means that they are stealing IP.

Also, Huawei invests more in R&D than Apple:

Flip phone doesnt exist as smartphone for a reason... it flips and that means it’s splittable. Likewise for this foldable as they said, I see the potential

There’s nothing to double down on. These compromises are obvious to anyone. If you don’t agree, just move on and stop quoting me.

The original iPhone had a camera, so you’re wrong there. I know because I had one (I still have it!). You’re right, you couldn’t install third party apps. Only Apple ones. The concept of “apps” was new at the time and app development wasn’t even a thing yet. It lacked 3G because existing 3G chips sucked power like nobody’s business. The original iPhone was total innovation and there was nothing like it at all, but what it did do, it did flawlessly. What does this have to do with the original iPhone anyway?

Those compromises didn’t outweigh the benefits of the iPhone, that’s the big difference. The iPhone completely changed everything about the smartphone for the better, even with some missing features. These phones bring one advantage, portability of a larger screen, but bring along with it too many compromises. It’s not a better phone (like the iPhone) or a better tablet (like the iPad), it’s a compromised hybrid device that won’t be good at either.

All companies are periodically found guilty of patent infringement. The difference is Huawei actually has used spies to steal actual IP. The Chinese government doesn’t enforce IP or patent laws. Infringing on a patent is not necessarily the same thing. Huawei is also a broader company than Apple so of course they invest more in r&d...

Sorry, but no, you don’t get to monopolize the thread with falsehoods.

They are compromises in YOUR opinion. Millions of these devices will sell in the next calendar year. Millions.

That fact alone proves you’re wrong about this “obvious to anyone” silliness.

Haha a crease down the middle of the screen is a falsehood and an opinion. I think I’ve heard it all now.

Or maybe Apple is working on a foldable phine without a distorted screen because if they released something like we see here from Huawei they would literally be ripped to shreds.

Yeah, meant to say front facing camera. As for everything else you can provide whatever reasons existed for them. That doesn't change the fact Apple released the phone just to get it out the door. After all they could have waited for the technology to mature but they chose not to.

Who's to say the benefit of this device doesn't outweigh the "compromises"?

The existence of a crease was never in contention.

You saying “the products released this week have too many compromises and don’t bring any value to customers.“ as if that opinion is a fact is the issue.

Don’t pretend you don’t understand that.

How was the technology not mature? Also, really, you’re kind of comparing the original iPhone to modern smartphones. There were a few phones with front facing cameras at the time, a few, but most phones at the time did not have one. There wasn’t much of a use for one. Selfies weren’t really a thing yet, video calls were crap. Most people carried around a stand alone digital camera even. Why even have a front facing camera?

You’re seriously grasping at straws.

That’s fair, that’s up to to individual, but personally I wouldn’t choose a screen crease, plastic materials, weird aspect ratios, wonky software, and lack of apps just for portability over what we have today. I’d think you or anyone would be better off with a device that’s optimized to be a phone and a device that’s optimized to be a tablet. If you’re good overlooking those things in the name of portability, go for it.

The compromises I have mentioned are all apparent with these devices. It comes down to the individual if they can overlook those compromises in the name of portability. For me, a screen crease is a deal breaker, but hey, enjoy your device.

Just because apple hasn’t dumped a half-assed folding phone which looks like a deflated balloon on the market doesn’t mean they aren’t working on making the technology actually not suck.
