new to coolbook. i have no idea what's going on. please help.

trying to add in new frequency and voltage but I only can select 1862 mhz and 1596 mhz under frequency. how to i obtain other frequencies ex. 800, 1200 etc.

thanks for your help.

there's a checkbox in the top right of the coolbook window that says 'B/2'...check that box and you can get 798 and 931 MHz options for frequency

those are the only 4 settings i can find for frequency on coolbook 2.12 (which came out today :D ) on my MBAir Rev B...

eariler in this thread, i've read that other people have the option for 1200 and 1400 MHz frequencies, but i can't figure these out...i even e-mailed magnus about this, and he's unsure why i don't have these options..

anyone else have the same problem with rev b mbair's?

also, my fan temperature reading in coolbook menu bar reads about 10-15 degrees lower than my istatpro and SMC fan temperatures....interesting

thanks. still searching on how to get 1200 and 1400 mhz frequencies.

same here with the temp compared to coolbook and istat 10-15 degrees difference.

can someone using the mba rev.b post the the complete values of coolbook (voltage and mhz).

got only 1602mhz and 1869mhz.

1602mhz's voltage use is being limited to only at 1.000v

SMC fan temperatures reads over 100c when I did a cpu test... which i don't think is the case.... otherwise one of the core would have been shut done by my current setting.

I have a MBA Rev B. SSD and want to know the most optimum setting for coolbook. I'm having issues playing any video without shuttering.

First read this entire thread.

Every CPU tolererence is slightly different. You'll have to start with the lowest setting, test and move higher if it crashes or if apps crash, like firefox running multiple windows.

each machine has different settings, but mine is all set at 0.9250v except for 1.8ghz @ 0.9500.

try those.

just got coolbook on and running 600, 800, 1.2, and 1.4 at .9v. i tried 1.6 and .9v and it told me to restart my computer :). so for now i have 1.6 and 1.8 running at 1v as i dont have time to test tonight. I haven't had time to try the battery side yet though.

also i need to find the part of this thread about it running on startup, i know i saw it somewhere.

It just runs... no need to do anything besides making sure the box is checked to make it active.

so it does.

we after some more testing tonight i can have everything at .9v except 1.6 @ .935 and 1.8 @ 1v. taking either lower and running CPU test results in a panic.

Interestingly if i put the air on my desk and run cpu test at factory settings it makes the cput hit 100C and then throttles it back to maintain the temp. so from the factory it cant sustain the maximum speed. Its a bit like selling a car that can do 300mph and the small print saying "with a following wind down a hill if you are lucky".

i love the thing regardless, and its never going to get used like it did when running CPU test so i cant complain. i'm suprised i havnt seen any aftermarket heatsinks though. i know its a small part because of the size of the air but a copper one would probably perform a whole chunk better.

Everything on my MBA seems to run fine with the exception of streaming video. When I try to stream video from the internet the video gets incredibly choppy and my RPM go up to about 6200. During most times the RPM are about 2500.

Would Coolbook help this? I'm very nervous about running this app as it sounds like it could definitely void the warranty.

Any thoughts on if it would solve my streaming problems?

Thanks.

You could actually solve you problems yourself, if you could read.
But if you insist on surrogate solutions, then yes - it most certainly would help you, except if could not read how to use & tune it. No amount of surrogation here would solve it then.

Not quite sure what you mean by that. I am pretty sure I know how to read. Not sure how that would "solve you problems yourself," but I will bite at this.

If I assure you I can read, can you now share with me how this can solve my problems? Are you implying that if I read the thread I would see that CoolBook would fix my problems?

Quite frankly, I hate the ******* remarks that people make--kind of what ess did to you. But, honestly, if you say you can read, and drop the defensive attitude, you'd realize that you should be doing exactly what you say you can do. Read the forum = dl coolbook = undervolt. I, too, like to be spoon-fed my meal even at my age of 21 =\.

Got coolbook yesterday. For my 1.6/HDD MBA-B I can only get the 800 and 1600 settings. I have them at 0.9250V; throttle high; 85C limit. My idle is around 45C. Load is ~60C. I've got reapplied thermal paste which definitely is helping it out. BTW, I HIGHLY recommend reapplying the thermal paste (boo hoo warranty =[). The junk and plunk job they did on even the MBA-B is ridiculous. After reapplying with Arctic Silver 5, I immediately saw a 10C drop in idle and 25C drop in load, and thats not even burnt in yet.

somehow, i didn't found coolbook and smcfancontrol very helpful for my refub revA Book. Yes, without those software , my book is cooler. I guess it's due to some firmware updates.

The problem i found with smcfancontrol is that the lowest setting is 2500 rpm and sometimes, the fan just stuck at 6500rpm and never come back to 2500 rpm even the cpu is 50C. I didn't do anything, the fan speed just wont' going down.

So I removed coolbook and smcfancontrol. My air is running quietly and even sometimes it get warm a little bit, fan speed up, after a while, the fan is quiet again.

BTW: I returned my air 2 days before due to a assemble issue, the new one should arrive next monday. despite that everything works perfect.

This isn't working for me. Rev A. With a youtube running, I'm up to about 173 degrees with loud fan. I don't care about shutdowns. I care about heat/comfort.

What I don't understand is setting the max limit temp to 185 degrees. Why do I want to allow it to get anywhere near that? And, if I lower the fan speed to shut it up a bit, isn't it going to run even hotter?

Youtube will heat it up no matter what. Webcam sessions will heat it up no matter what.

Besides, your temperatures aren't out of the norm. I was doing a webcam session via iChat with my friend in class (lol) and I limited my fan to 2500RPM so it doesn't annoy everyone in the class. Temps rose to 75 deg C but never gone above that.

That's depressing.

ayeying - do you have your fan settings somewhere? Did you use the smcfancontrol thing or something else?

Wow. The MacBook Air's got some serious overheating issues...

For comparison sake, a ThinkPad X61s (which has an actual ULV chip, not just a cut-down C2D) will peak at 62C or so under full, sustained load. Mine idles at 40C.

Still, the MBA isn't that bad if you're willing to re-apply the thermal paste and undervolt it.

Glorious. As a mac rookie, I'd like to buy a beer for posting this one. Fixed my choppy issues. Thanks again.

My rev A 1.6Ghz is running stable at .9375v at 1.6Ghz, which is way below the 1.15v stock setting. I might even be able to go lower, as I have not experienced any kernal panics. The ability to undervolt these chips so much makes me wonder if overclocking these CPUs a little wouldn't be possible? I mean maybe this CPU will run at 1.8Ghz at 1.15v? Anyway, I don't know much about all this but I had to ask.

I ran rev A/SSD @ 1.8ghz on 1.0v on a few occasions, and had no problem (mostly when watching HD videos that stutters on lower ghz, but keeping it will take it up to 100c and eventually shuts itself down if used too long with it) and usually run it at 1.2ghz on 0.9v (nothing seems slow, and possibly saving some battery usage)

This comment pertains to the MBA on battery power.

Coolbook is a must if you want every drop of power at all times on the MBA. There is some serious throttling implemented in the MBA and it needs to be overridden by Coolbook.

Just try Mame OSX without Coolbook and then with Coolbook to see what I am talking about.
