Well, after Hyundai ANNOUNCED they were working with Apple it was only a matter of time before apple dropped them... Apple likes their privacy. Unless... they're lying to mollify Apple and trying to cover up? Who knows. But Foxconn said they are going to be an EV contract manufacturer. Seems like a perfect fit for Apple, and the factories should be up and running by 2025.

Possibly Kia got cold feet and "accidentally" announced the talks, in order to make Apple suddenly uninterested. It's easier than giving a hard NO.

Nobody wants to partner with Apple, because everyone's afraid of them. iTunes demolished the music industry. iPhone destroyed the phone industry. Heck, Apple destroyed the mainframe and minicomputer industry too (although it was really IBM et all, but Apple showed it could be a business).

I'd be afraid of Apple wanting to partner with me.

This is going to take at least 10 years before the first car is sold.

Hyundai/Kia are public company. They were required by securities law of Korea to disclose something this morning (“Response to rumors”) That’s why Apple “cut off negotiation“ with them, so Apple can announce this first. They will “one more thing” this in March. WHy announce something that will not happen for 4-5 years? Because if Hyundai/Kia sign agreement with Apple, they have to disclose this.
All companies have secret. projects including Hyundai. This is an age old trick to cash out some stocks at high.

Those saying Hyundai group can’t make an aspirational, highly efficient, fast charging, vehicle to load (bi-directional), 500km range EV will eat their words later this month with the official release of Ioniq brand on the new EV platform.

The deal was supposed to seal at some point in 2020 and an official announcement from Apple in 2021.

Steve Jobs: Apple will be acquiring the E-GMP and Hyundai to be spun off as a manufacturing partner for producing and assembling smart-EV which will be available for the customer to purchase at Apple Store in 2021.

Tim Cook: How about postponing it until 2031?

The only data I have to go on are reliability ratings and other such reports. For the most part, Hyundai’s more recent generations of products (including the Genesis lineup) seem to have high marks for reliability.

I won’t suggest that they are reaching Toyota-levels of reliability (no one has), but Hyundai wouldn’t have been a bad partner. However, knowing Hyundai, this wasn’t going to pan out in the first place.

There are certain category Kia is even dominating such as Mini Trucks. Where Reliability which affect TCO. ( Total Cost of Ownership ) is a dominant factor. So they have come a really long way.

I am actually thinking all these leaks are Kia's play for saying No to Apple.

The Hyundai and Kia brands may be budget, but Hyundai’s manufacturing prowess is nothing to scoff at. You should look it up; it’s quite interesting
Depends what you mean by budget, here in the U.K. they’re not the cheapest anymore, they’re more normal Ford / Peugeot kinda level.
