No attack sir, there are options for those that still need the jack in rare situations.
The standard headphone jack is gone for good from this iphone and all newer iphones that will be released in the future.
The faster one realizes it and moves on the happier they will be :)
There's no turning back.
This is what I'm trying to convey earlier. I just can't grasp the right words.

I find his claim bizarre and I dont buy it.
He had people go in and plug in to a headphone jack to listen to music and iphone 7 guys couldn't do it. Please.
The whining and beating a dead horse is the constant headphone jack threads that pop up every few days. Its funny posting a picture of 1980's stereo tech and expect the newest smartphone to be backwards compatible with that dinosaur:D Maybe the iphone 7 should play records too:D
Its final and not going to change, you either adapt or purchase something else. Its very simple...

You need to step back and look at it from someone else's perspective. You sound like it may be an unlikely scenario for you, but you said so yourself that a new whining headphone jack thread pops up every couple of days. Add em up and over time it may appear more people have issue with it than a couple of whiners.

Many Hifi systems are starting to come with bluetooth, but a vast majority of high end audiophile quality gear I purchase does not. Calling a $10,000 preamp a dinosaur is a stretch and it certainly is not 80's tech.

I think it's wonderful that Apple wants everyone to go wireless. I am sure with time bluetooth quality will catch up to plugged-in audiophile grade headphones. In the meantime I will put up my plug-in Grado headphones against any bluetooth offerings. Dinosaur... right.

As far as I know Apple is the only company using a lightening connector for headphones. So is it that hard to believe that iPhone 7 users at a party without the dreaded "Dongle" would not be able to plug in? I would guess you only go to parties where someone has a bluetooth speaker or you carry a pocketful of dongles.

FYI, I also have a turntable and play "Records". Sounds better than anything coming out of an iPhone.

Again, to step back , and see it from your side, I understand you may be looking at it from a different perspective and can appreciate that. My situation is different and not far fetched. I see the trend of forcing everyone to go wireless and get their music from an online service really is an injustice to those of us who still enjoy high quality sound. Again thats my perspective.

I'd go easy on some of these whiners they are not all like you.

When I go to parties the last thing I worry or care about is if I can plug in my iphone to their Aux Jack:D
But carry on, maybe you can sign a petition :D

It almost seems like you've wasted your time calling people liars and conveying yourself as some superior intellectual tech supremo when you say something like that.

Grab yourself a beer, you've won the thread.

I'll personally say that the removal of the headphone jack annoys me in exactly the ways I predicted it would.

The current bluetooth headphones sound like crap. The new "W1" based headphones might be better, but the Beats X are still unavailable for purchase, and will basically only work within the apple ecosystem. I'll probably end up buying a pair when it comes out, but I don't even have the option yet.

I would normally carry two headphones -- Apple Earpods for phonecalls and video conferences, and UltimateEars In-Ear headphones for Music. I now end up carrying three sets ... one set of earpods for my iPhone, and another for my laptop, and my Ultimate ears with the adapter.

Worst of all ... If I want to listen to music on a long flight, I can't charge and listen to music at the same time. I have a 24 hour long flight coming up soon (Flying to Singapore), and basically my iPhone as a music device has become much less useful.

To those complaining about loss of audiophone quality though ... an iPhone never was an audiophile device. Sure, you can get much better sound quality using a high-end preamp/DAC and headphone amplifier, connected to high end headphones ... But connecting $1000 headphones to an iPhone would just be stupid. If you are in that class, you can buy a portable audiophile DAC which will connect to the lightning port.

You were at a party that everyone had to listen to music only via a headphone jack?
Give me a break....
Lets continue to whine and keep beating a dead horse.
Those are actually the best parties.

On-topic: Headphone jack's need to stay. It makes no sense to remove such an essential future and Apple will learn it the hard way. The battery times of the bluethooth headphones and also the phones in of itself are not long enough. Carrying an external power bank is always an option, but imo the 3.5 mm headphone jack needs to come back.

My only issue is that I still like to charge and listen at the same time occasionally, but there are OK workarounds for that.

I don't care about the 3.5 mm jack in and of itself, but it does kinda suck not having two ports. Maybe we'll get 2 lightening ports on the plus one day.

Although I enjoy the phone, I have had several instances of missing the headphone jack. Here they are:

1) Left bluetooth earphones and adapter at home, so I can't listen to any music on my phone
2) Bluetooth earphones ran out of battery
3) Tried to watch a video on an iPhone with my earphones (via adapter, bluetooth earphones ran out of battery and were charging), but the phone was running out of battery too. Couldn't watch without earphones, so I couldn't watch the video while it was charging.

(1) occurred twice, and the others once in my month of using the phone, but they've equally sucked each time. Yeah Apple, I get that the future is without a headphone jack. But damn do I miss this thing. Unless there are Bluetooth earphones with amazing battery life (8 hours is way too little) and good sound quality, Bluetooth is not today's "future."

Doesn't take much.
Removal of the jack, mediocre BT with no real improvement in BT quality. Use of the lightning port adapter results in lower sound quality than the jack.
So pulled, lower, no improvement is an upgrade? Seriously?
Sticking with my 6S+.

I do not believe it but whatever you say.
Just another user that cant get over the fact that technology evolves.
You'll get it over it eventually :D

Whats not to believe? I have been to plenty a shindig where the music source are speakers with an audio jack attached to an iPod.

I wonder the sales figures would look like if Apple offered a jacked and unjacked version.
Bet the jacked would win.
Leaving out parts is not evolution. It's called enhancing the margin. ;)

I doubt it, eventually they will all remove the headphone jack from smartphones.
Technology does evolve, if it was leaving out parts then we would still have Floppy drives and zip drives, and macbooks with dvd drives, VCR tapes would still be around and blockbuster would still be in business and continue to do great etc... :D
Its not the end of the world like some like to act over removing the aux headphone jack from a smartphone.
It will be ok ;)

The 3.5mm headphone jack is essentially a 19th Century bit of kit - it is a miniaturized version of the classic quarter-inch jack (6.35mm), which is said to date back as far as 1878.
Time for technology to advance I think....

Come on are you just being obtuse. Have you never been to a party where music is being played from phones using the output from the headphone jack plugged into the music system.

Nope, sorry :D
They either have the radio on or computer speakers or wireless Bluetooth playing using their iphone in their pockets. And they change songs, pause or lower and raise volume without having to run to the stereo every few minutes.
I never been to a place where all guests go around and just plug in their smartphones and take turns passing around the headphone jack :D
Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable in a crowded place just leaving my $1000+ smartphone laying around next to the stereo for everyone to swipe and disappear.
I wouldn't feel left out or ridiculed if my iPhone 7 couldn't connect and play music for the party, not really an issue or concern to me.

You must go to some great parties with the Radio on.

There are three pages of comments and I'm not reading through them to see if anyone posted something similar. The headphone jack does need to go, but Bluetooth and Lightning are not the answer in my opinion. USB-C is. While inconvenient now, eventually most wired headphones will be made for this port.

Lightning is proprietary and will never be seen in a non-iOS device, so it's not very wise to make and especially buy Lightning headphones.

Here the issue that brings with the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack:

1st Iphone 7 doesn't have 3.5mm headphone jack, while mac, android device don't have lightning meaning a dongle has to be used.

2nd when using the lightning cable it makes it impossible to recharge at same time.

Basically by removing the 3.5mm headphone jack it limits the option for consumer to choose headphones. If a person has android and apple device this will be a problem.

Iphone 6s and Ipad Pro has both lightning cable and 3.5mm and there is no issue, apple shouldn't focus so much on thinness that they have to sacrifice features.

What is the evolution from 3.5mm headphone jack? Is the evolution of 3.5mm headphone jack to lightning cable? That is a bad evolution since only apple device uses lightning cable and the apple mac don't even use lightning cable. This evolution requires dongle to be used.

VHS to DVD and then Bluray are good evolution. Floppy disc to USB pen drive that is good.

1. I don't really care about your advice, so sorry I couldn't stroke your ego even further
2. My last phone (6 plus) was plagued with the touch disease, so I didn't want to use it for one more year
3. Hahahaaaaa
Yall missed it. You missed it again. I tried to tell you!

Lol :D
Just stating an opinion and having a discussion sir.
Hope you didn't take anything personal.
I don't take anything personally on the internet but I must point out your responses went beyond just having a discussion. You ridiculed my point of view and insinuated I'd made up a scenario that didn't favour the iPhone 7. In other words you suggested I am a liar. Something which you can't possibly be qualified to suggest seeing as we don't know each other from Adam.

If anything though I must thank you for the way your responded as its given me perspective. I've defended iPhone users on here for years by saying in my experience the most militant defenders on MR are often Android users. Now I've fallen foul from the same side of the fence I can at least agree both types of fan take this thing far too seriously.

There are aftermarket splitters available
