However this time around it seems like performance and usability has clearly taken a back seat.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here :) From my perspective, both the performance (raw speed, display) and usability (mobility, keyboard, trackpad, connectivity) have been improved significantly. But I certainly have no problems accepting the fact that other people wished to see a different kind of product.

Needing to spend over $3000 for a laptop with a r460, 16gb, and a 1tb ssd in 2016 just seems like a bad idea.

That I agree with. I hope the prices will go down over time.

Yeah but isn't that Apples game? Of course its more powerful than the older model, its not hard to raise the bar when they set it so low. The reality is that its not going to have the lasting power of a computer that has any of the nvidia offerings or 32gb's of RAM. Like I said before, its a great lightweight computer for someone that doesn't care about spending thousands for mid/low specs, but if I'm spending that much on a laptop I want that thing to fly for years.

Hopefully the next update lowers the price and adds some better graphics options. Add pencil support on that huge trackpad (which btw would have been MUCH better than the touch bar) and potential kaby lake battery life gains, and the computer will start to look more attractive (along with 32gb DDR4).

For me the rMBP was the perfect balance between power and portability. This model shifts more to the portability side. Anyways if it works for you then thats cool, I'll be waiting around hoping that they listen to the users on my side and push for some better spec'ed machines in the future. I'm sure it will be a nice laptop to use (even though that keyboard might be a real issue for me, I really didn't like typing on the new MacBook).

I hope the OP and some of the replies are being sarcastic. These new Macbooks better cook my meals everyday at these prices.
I agree the new new prices are tough to swallow,But, I bought a late 2008 base 15 for $1999.00 It is now 8 yrs later and I will get the 15" $2799 one, wish it was still $2500 but what did a new car cost in 2008 vs today, and what were you making in 2008 vs Today. I would look at a Surface Pro due to the touch screen IF it was a 15 but they want $1800 approx for a 13 and it will not be as powerful as a $1800 13 MBP. not many are completely happy but I will bite the bullet and accept the increase. Now if they come out in March with a touch screen for the same price I will probably needed to be committed

As long as I am replying to myself, one big disappointment for me was making it smaller when they could have made the screen a 16 and kept the same size while still making it a little lighter. And really I look more for performance than size and weight.
