I'm ok-ish, got the flu, then my back went out on me. Because of that I wasn't able to work on the house at all last week, and likely won't get anything done this week either.
1. Get tested.

2. Ice packs for 36 hours, then alternate ice and heating pad. Let it recover. If you can find a fascial tissue stretch therapist that will work wonders for recovery and determining why it went out and what you need to do about it. If you have to stress it and it lower back area, this is a very good support that you can wear under your clothes: https://www.serola.net/product/serola-sacroiliac-belt/

3. Hope you feel better soon.

I tested negative for covid on day 3 of the flu symptoms. So yay!

My back problems come from my days delivering to Dollar Tree Stores, where I would unload 30-49,000lbs of freight by hand twice a week. That's right, by hand, no pallet jacks, no hand trucks. I have a bad disc that crushes my sciatic nerve, so the most effective self-treatment is the normal hot/cold stuff, but also the sciatic stretches, and time on my inversion table. You can see the inversion table in the background in some of the vids when I'm in the big room. Things are slowly getting better.

Yesterday, after 18 days of people contacting me about the room and then flaking out, I deleted the add and reposted it, changing almost nothing. Also immediately I had two people reach out, and both needed a room by the end of the weekend. They both looked at the place today and I picked one who i think will be a great fit.

Using CL is much slower than FB Marketplace, but the quality of responses is MUCH better.

I can relate to back problems. I have scoliosis in my next. Its about as straight as a corkscrew.
Bedroom looks good. Hope the new tenant works out.

I haven't decided on using equipment or not. 10-ish years ago when I helped out my plumber friend a did a few fresh water supply lines from the street by hand and it wasn't that bad. One place did require a jackhammer though.

There is a legit safety concern though because of the depth, based on an OSHA-30 class I took a couple years ago, I think I'll need to shore up the sides of the trench, and possibly wear a harness and have another person on site.

New video, I hire a plumber to fix the sewer issues, then tear out the creepy shower room. Unfortunately, this is the last of my content until my back is feeling good enough to work on the house again.
Enjoyed that, interesting stuff. Note to self: don't flush towels. 💡

It is amazing how much material comes out of those little demos.

Can't believe they cut that much out of that joist for that pseudo-vent. Did that to fool an inspector...?

Hoping you feel better soon and the new roomie isn't Ted Bundy. 😬

Don't flush towels! Also, "flushable" wet wipes are not actually flushable, they wreak havoc on sewer systems.

I highly doubt they had an inspector when they added the creepy shower room, but he was a home builder, so he should have know better than to take 6 inches out of an 8 inch joist.

The new roomie is great so far!

Fixed that for you

Two questions on the last video (if you don't mind).

1. What is an ENT (may have the spelling/name incorrect) but you mentioned it at the beginning of the video that there was a leak coming in on one.
2. What was that thing hanging off the outside of the back wall of the shower? It almost looked like a fan of some sort (you can see it in the video at 30:38 with a cord running down from it)

As always nice work! Hope you feel better soon.

1: you were close, it is EMT, Electrical Metallic Tubing. That is what the electrical conduit you see in building is actually called. A good 15-ish years ago I worked for a commercial electrical supplier, that's the only reason I know what it's real name is!

2: Yes, that was a fan, that just blew steam from the shower into the basement. It looks like that whole shower area has the worst of the termite damage and the two fans venting into the framing might be why. Stuff like this is why building codes exist!

cool, thanks!

Hope you feel better soon, buddy. I can tell it's wearing on you a bit.

For the trespassers, if the gate doesn't work I'm thinking motion sensing high pressure oscillating water sprinkler.

I suspect the trespasser didn't have any ill intent, my property was just a convenient shortcut. The road behind me is a dead end with two houses that have access to my back fence. The gate doesn't fully fill the gap, but I hope it is a deterrent enough to stop the person(s).

we get a lot of homeless here, so long as there is some small effort on security they go quickly to the next best opportunity.

i was working on a flooring projsect on an old house. We always wondered why we could not get rid of an odor. It was in the structural floor boards. Just saying that because the project environment was very dirty.
anyways
first my arm muscles cramped up. Than my leg. Researching the googles it could have been tetnus?

everyone is different
if in the morning; if I dont feel totally rejuvinated from the previous days effort, its a warning. for me it dosnt take but a few mornings like this and my body shuts down. Like the pho tetnus.
take it easy.

Thanks! I'm feeling a bit better, but not great, super low on energy. However, tomorrow I'm buying the parts for the next project, something quite a bit more in depth than a fart fan :)
You have been feeling ill for awhile now. That super low on energy remark reminded me when I had Covid last Jan. Hope you get to feeling better
