You have been feeling ill for awhile now. That super low on energy remark reminded me when I had Covid last Jan. Hope you get to feeling better

Turns out my problem is an autoimmune issue, but the doctors don't know exactly what yet. Nots more testing to do...

You looked very sore getting into the crawl space. I suggest you take it easy for a while longer.

Yeah, I've been more sensitive to pain in general the last couple weeks. The next project is out in the open though! I'm going to work, but just at a slower pace, and hopefully move a bit more deliberately.

I'm sorry to hear that buddy, I could see it has taken some wind out of your sails. Keep us up to date on how you're doing.

Yeah, I was expecting a collapsing support under the crack, not for the entire thing to be pretty much gone.

I just bought the new lumber. Two 10 foot LVL 2x12's and a bunch of 2x4's, around $300 in lumber.

Yeah, lumber prices are nuts. My next lumber purchase is the joists that need to be replaced under the bathroom and bedroom I tore out. There are five joists that are bad.

I'm so glad I live in a termite free country. Good luck with the replacement and stay safe!

A termite free country? That sounds amazing!

This won't make it into a video, but I had my first WTF moment with a roommate this morning. It wasn’t anything malicious, just dumb.

He went to iron a shirt and the power went out. He couldn’t connect the dots between plugging in the iron, and the power going out, he just assumed the whole neighborhood lost power.

I had left the gable fan on last night, and I could hear it was off when I woke up. I turned on my bedroom light to check if the power was out, or if it was just that circuit. The light turned on.

So I turned off the fan, then headed downstairs to turn the breaker back on. When I went past the bathroom the roomie was in there shaving in the dark, he told me the power was out. I told him there is a light on in the living room, so it’s just a breaker. He looked surprised, just just said, “Oh.”

I turned the breaker back on and went upstairs. I learned that part of the basement, bedroom #1, hall/stair lights, pink bathroom, gable fan, and the IT room are all on the same circuit. By the time I had turned the power back on, both UPS units in the IT room were depleted, the whole network had gone down. And many things didn’t want to come back up…

Yeah, the small "pile" of lumber in this video, plus the two tall jacks, cost $446!

I have not been following along diligently, so I’ll ask. When you placed the supports adjacent to The Death Beam, where they rest on the floor is that a concrete floor, are the uprights placed on joists, and if there is a basement did you also place verticle supports in the basement? :)

Yes, the floor in those rooms is the foundation, so no concerns about that failing.

Also, the joists in the ceiling run perpendicular to The Death Beam, so right now all the weight that is normally on The Death beam is on my temporary supports. In fact, if I hit The Death Beam on the side with a hammer, it flaps back and forth.

So did you know before hand what you needed to do or did you just figure it out? That is way above my skillset! Ha

How old is your roommate? That doesn't surprise me that he thought the whole block was out of power. Kids these days

How big is the breaker box? Sounds like you need to split things up to protect the IT room

Congrats! House looks decent and the area looks great. (Lots of tall trees).

I've been tracking the house temperature and it looks like the shade from the trees keeps the house from really warming up until about 2-3pm. That should help keep the A/C costs lower than if it was fully exposed to the sun.

Was stumped on the thingamabob.

It's amazing how much debris you have to remove from a house that's been lived in and 'fixed up' for so long. And how much dust there is.

I spent a solid three hours cleaning up dust today because I used the cut off wheel on the drywall yesterday.

So did you know before hand what you needed to do or did you just figure it out? That is way above my skillset! Ha

I know the basics, but I got some help on the specs from the "Bob" I mention in the video. He is a home builder and we know each other from an auto racing forum we both frequent. On a side note, from here on out I'm going to call any unnamed person "Bob" in the videos.

The roomie is in his 40's. He wife and kinds live 4-5 hours away because work transferred him from his home area to here. Every time his wife visits she scrubs the bathroom, and is happy to do it. So i guess I can overlook the power thing, lol.

Looking good. I wish I was talented/knowledgeable enough to do that.

Most things I've learned by just jumping in and being willing to break stuff.

Heh. Deep thinker, lol.

Might have to create a ‘if/then’ laminated sheet for the roomies.

It is very easy to want to just make rules based on minor events, but I'd like to avoid that. However, I did add "No flushing wetwipes, flushable wipes, or tampons" to the lease after finding the broken sewer pipe. Don't want that stuff catching on the pipe.

Yeah I was just thinking House 101, like: If right after you plugin and turn on an iron the lights go out, it might have been triggered by the iron. If the neighbors lights are still on, probably not a neighborhood outage. ;)

It seems simple enough to most people...

Important job there, the death beam turned out structurally to be the danger beam. 😬

Enjoyed that. 👍
The more I think about it, the more I feel I'm lucky it didn't collapse before I tackled the project. I suspect the drywall and light fixture were doing more work than intended.
