Wiped my 14 Pro and returning it this morning to my Apple store. A day of usage and I realized that it’s no upgrade to my 12 Pro. Phone is heavier, camera bump is ridiculous and the cell phone sensitivity is actually worse. Will stick out another year or more.

I was already happy with my 12Pro, just like to get in on the hype of release day and then return when I realize it doesn’t bring me much more. (It was the same with my 6S+. I tried so many upgrades but kept going back.)

I use my phone mainly for calls and streaming while in car. Very little pictures except when on vacation. So what’s the point? I’m not a social person who’s sharing or watching updates all day long…
I am even worse. I only use my personal 11 for texting/phone calling. Barely have 50 pics on the phone. Basically learned to separate the hype and actual reality of what the phone is used for. I don't think I will ever buy a Pro since I am not into social apps nor taking many photos. I don't have $1K+ burning in my pocket. I rather invest it when the market tanks some more in the next little while.

more exciting about weekly Tesla software update than this yearly iPhone upgrade, kind of sad.

Ugh I can’t stand the recent update that forced me to vision only autopilot. Significantly worse for basic autopilot now. Dumb car locked up the brakes yesterday for a guy who crossed traffic to turn and was nowhere near endangering me, 200 feet ahead and was already on the road he was turning onto.

Loved my 13 PM, except found it a bit too large when commuting, and mine had some thermal issues. Overheated like mad, which is the only reason, aside from incentives from Verizon, I upgraded to the 14Pro. I would wait for next year, with USB-C, and the other rumored camera upgrades. If your 13 is working well, hang onto it!
I upgraded to the 14 Pro for the same reasons ie thermal issues that persisted even after the phone was replaced.
The "upgrade" lasted a whole of 2 and a half days as the 14P has now gone back to Apple.

Battery life has been significantly worse and the DI is worse than the notch, IMO.
GPS and brightness outside are, indeed, much better but it felt like I am using pretty much the same phone.

I hope usb-c finally makes an appearance next year...

I went from a regular 12 to the 14 Pro.

I don't know.. I was sort of expecting more. The iPhone 14 pro takes good shots, that's for sure - but somehow I feel the 12 took 'good enough' shots already, and the 14 pro isn't much of a leap forward. Most pictures I've taken have been in the evenings, and although I can see some difference, I just don't feel wow'ed.

The 14 pro feels a lot heavier in 1-hand use, it actually made my wrist a bit sore. Of course adjustment probably fixes that, and I did hold the phone quite a lot, but regardless.

Promotion is nice, and I do like it, but the 12 still felt quite smooth regardless of it being 60hz.

The dynamic island also seems to take up space from web browsing and YouTube.

I really loved the 12 when I got it, and I still have it, but contemplating of going back to it. The 900-1000 euro price difference after selling it just doesn't feel justified. Any others in the same boat?

I'll keep using the 14 pro for a few more days, but I'm sort of starting to miss the lightweight 12 that did a good job.. and would save me 1000 euros.

I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder. Personally I was upgrading from the Xs Max to the 14 Pro Max and so far I am in love with the phone. Is it groundbreaking? Not really. Was it as noticeable of an upgrade as going from my 7 Plus to the Xs Max? Not really. But there were a lot of little features that I have been clamoring for (Night Mode, 48MP camera, ProMotion, Face ID with Mask, etc) that have all sorta added up and it got to the point where it feels like a big upgrade.

Further, the battery life on my Xs Max was never great (for the last year or so I have only been able to get through the day using LPM all day) and it was just generally starting to feel slow. Usable for 95% of the population? For sure, the Xs doesn't feel like it is four years old. But as a power user it was just having glitches here and there and slowdowns that were becoming frustrating. (My battery was still at 91% health btw).

Realistically, I don't see a reason to upgrade to the 14 Pro from anything newer than the 11 Pro unless the terrible battery life on the 12 is just unbearable. Even with the 11 Pro, it mostly comes down to the camera improvements. But going back to the Xs series and earlier, yeah I can see why people would want to upgrade.

Received. Couldn't care less about this phone. I have the 13 Pro max and the trade in was good for it ($1000 carrier trade in) but ... the 14 pro is going back. (to note, i did not trade in yet .. it was going to be mail in, so I still have my 13 pro max)

The camera bump is stupidly large.
The 13 pro, 12 pro, and honestly the 11 pro before it is still plenty fast.

I have bought year over year for years ... I just couldn't care less about the 14 Pro at this point.

Edit: I should point out this isn't bashing the phone, or Apple. At this point year over year upgrades is what it is, small advancements. This is just a sharing of thoughts on my end, nothing more (and as someone said below .. perhaps a little self discovery).
I think for the people who are into photography the 14 range is a nice jump but maybe in other areas the difference is not felt as much.
Did the Dynamic Island not convince you?
I think as more apps get updated to support it things will get interesting.

I need to stop reading posts like this. I want to go back, too, despite having good reasons for upgrading.

When I buy something, I like to get the best of something. I like to take nice photos, but the 12 Pro is really nice already. The macro was a nice feature, but can live without it. The dynamic island..,I never understood the hype. It’s nothing more than a notification area that expands around the notch. Big deal. I found it more disturbing than anything. Glad to be back to my normal notch. The always on display was also something useless for me. I always put my phone face down at rest, as I never have any notification appear on the Lock Screen (it kills the battery). 60 vs 120 hz. Couldn’t tell the difference either. Maybe I’m getting too old.

Now, I have the AirPods Pro 2 coming Friday. Again, very happy with my first gen. I’m just hoping the ANC is as good as they say it is, otherwise I will pay another visit to my Apple Store :)

I watched iJustines action mode test and I literally did not see a difference of the videos side by side compared to previous years model 😅
Because she had them on a gimbal. Action mode smooths out the video as if it were using a gimbal. I saw it too and it was not a very good way to do a side by side for a review… she should’ve know.

I get you. I was pretty happy to stick with my 11 Pro Max but it ended up getting stolen so got the 13 Pro Max, the upgrades are nice from 11PM but nothing that I would have jumped for had I still had my 11 PM except maybe the larger screen.

These phones are now good to go for multiple years and still run the apps and games without a problem. I don’t even game on my phones so I don’t need the most powerful chip BUT I do love the packaging and overall aesthetic of the Pro Max range, the power (raw SoC power and huge battery) they come with is truly appreciated.

One of my mates has a 12 Pro Max and he is super happy to go another year before jumping again.

So long as you like the new design then yes, absolutely.
My only concern is Face ID. I like Touch ID and was reading that the iPhone 15 may offer under glass Touch ID and was wondering if it was worth waiting for that.
I also dislike the lack of minijack since I can connect my 6plus to my car radio speakers with a cable while driving, but I doubt they'll bring back that feature in the future.

Buy a new car with Bluetooth mate!
Problem solved!
Cheers!

I agree. I have the 12ProMax. It meets all my needs. It's not "necessary" to upgrade, so I will wait for next year. :)

Do you think it was worth coming from the 12P this year, or do you think you should have waited for a 3rd year?

I was going to wait, however think there's jsut enough to justify the upgrade from 12 to 14
For me it was worth it to upgrade now. Most of the cost of my upgrade is subsidized by AT&T from the trade-in-deal. The 14P brought some solid upgrades that I am interested in: better cameras including an additional optical zoom level and macro, always-on display, ProMotion, longer battery, Dynamic Island, and emergency satellite connectivity. To me, that's a healthy set of upgrades.

I also really needed more storage as I was hitting the limit on my 128 GB 12P when I would try to download images from my drone or DSLR onto the iPhone. I'm going with 256 this time.

That said, I'm trying to find my way to get comfortable with a three year upgrade cycle instead of two. With the trade-in deal, I've essentially committed to a three year cycle going forward, unless I want to continue to forfeit part of that savings at the end of year two (assuming they continue to even offer this deal). We'll see.

I am honestly going to agree with this.
I got the 13 Pro at day one last year, returned on the 14th day because I somehow wanted to try the mini. Happy overall but it already feels old.
I was about to complete the order for a 14 Pro space black and in store collection today, when I realized that the only thing I'd be excited for with the 14 Pro would be the 120 Hz. Which the 13 Pro has. So... I'm now in talks with a friend to buy their 13 Pro.

What a clown I am lol. My friend decided to give his wife the 13 Pro and I ended up buying the 14 Pro. Space black, 256 GB. Will probably be the last update in a long time because I have other things to focus on

EDIT: I have also tried the camera and I'm kinda disappointed. Will test it more during these two weeks and if unhappy I'll return and get a used 13P/PM with AppleCare and hold on till USB-C or something exciting
