I have to say Im not bothered by the camera bump, holding the 256GB 13 Pro next to the 1TB 14 Pro and its not like "OH MY GOD THE CAMERA BUMP ITS HUUUUUUGE" its a bit bigger but not so that I really notice tbh, maybe I just use my phone and dont stare or obsess over it, but really its not that big as far as I'm concerned. Each to their own I guess.

99% of the time you’re gonna be staring at the front of your phone rather than the back anyways. I don’t understand the issue with the bump unless people are really self-conscious about using a phone with a camera bump out in public . 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m feeling this right now. Coming from 13PM to 14PM I knew the side grade was going to be incremental but was looking forward for the new Dynamic Island and 48MP camera so I pulled the trigger on the 14PM. After using the 14PM for a day, the pill shape bothers me and is quite annoying IMO. I’ll use the phone for 2 weeks and return if I can’t get used to it.
LOL. I am contemplating not wasting my time to pick up my Pro 14 256GB this morning. I am getting my 13 from work this week and I can use that for my personal and transfer my 11 as my work phone. Besides these 5G, Camera and DI updates, I honestly can't justify paying $1,750. The 11-14 are all similar. I will save myself from the headache and don't want to get caught up with the "marketing". If USB-C comes out next year, the demand will be even greater for the Pro and would make more sense. Maybe the DI will go away.

Doubt very highly the DI will go away in one year. Remember the touch bar? They'll try for a few years before quietly moving on.

As for me, I like DI, but I didn't exactly mind the notch either. As "cute" as DI is, I might even prefer the notch.

USB-C will create huge demand for Pro next year. I still cannot justify paying $1,750CDN for a this year's model. It's only going to be 363 days away approximately. I can live with my new 13 and 11. :)

Your 13 and 11 are FABULOUS phones, enjoy them! My 11PM was the most comfortable to hold iPhone EVER! It was also the biggest leap, battery wish and camera wise, of any iPhone, and I've had all of them except the 12.

It’s time to stop upgrading every year. It simply doesn’t make sense anymore. Do it every two years, or maybe three. I’m coming from the 12 Pro. Was going to wait three years this time but the improvements on this version compelled me.

Also, how were you doing the $1000 trade in deal if you were upgrading from a one year old device? You weren’t on a prior trade in plan?

These plans are now three year commitments. Early upgrades involve big payoff charges.

Do you think it was worth coming from the 12P this year, or do you think you should have waited for a 3rd year?

I was going to wait, however think there's jsut enough to justify the upgrade from 12 to 14

DI is just a "gimmick" to drum up sales and entice upgrading. Eventually pill/notch will go away once they figure out the redesign in future models. End of the day, it's just a phone.

I feel the same exact way. DI looks awesome and I tried it at the Apple Store, I loved it. I even went to my wife and said “oh man I like the DI a lot” but then realized I might prefer the notch in the 13 pro max instead. I might wait until next year to upgrade. I truly believe the 13 pro and pro max are the best phones apple made to date.

It's definitely less exciting lately. The X was last one I was really pumped to get, and the 6 prior to that. However, like yourself I got a great deal and upgraded regardless. (Unlike yourself I'll most likely be keeping mine.) I will admit, based on the keynote I was hoping the camera would be one of those 'behind the scenes' significant updates. Reviews thus far make it seem like that's not the case, but we shall see.
I still have my 6plus. Do you think the 14 pro is a worthwhile upgrade for me?

Loved my 13 PM, except found it a bit too large when commuting, and mine had some thermal issues. Overheated like mad, which is the only reason, aside from incentives from Verizon, I upgraded to the 14Pro. I would wait for next year, with USB-C, and the other rumored camera upgrades. If your 13 is working well, hang onto it!

How are people changing phones every year, why would you?

Gone from an iPhone 6 to the X to the 14 Pro, get your moneys worth and keep the handset. Plus the difference when you upgrade is genuinely noticeable

Some people like the latest devices. Some people need the latest device or close to the latest device.

iPhone 6 or iPhone X is not going to give me the features I need to work with my Apple Silicon Mac.
I could’ve kept my iPhone 12 Pro Max but I wanted the features of the 14 Pro Max.

Received. Couldn't care less about this phone. I have the 13 Pro max and the trade in was good for it ($1000 carrier trade in) but ... the 14 pro is going back. (to note, i did not trade in yet .. it was going to be mail in, so I still have my 13 pro max)

The camera bump is stupidly large.
The 13 pro, 12 pro, and honestly the 11 pro before it is still plenty fast.

I have bought year over year for years ... I just couldn't care less about the 14 Pro at this point.

Edit: I should point out this isn't bashing the phone, or Apple. At this point year over year upgrades is what it is, small advancements. This is just a sharing of thoughts on my end, nothing more (and as someone said below .. perhaps a little self discovery).
I went from the 13 pro max to the 14 pro max simply because of the 48mp resolution! I’ve been waiting a high resolution sensor for a long time. It benefits me greatly because I shoot in ProRAW 98% of the time. The image files are so good! I’m sorry you decided not to keep your iPhone 14 Pro. I love mine.

I’m blown away that this stupid thread keeps getting comments, but, carry on I guess.

So let’s change it up, those that upgraded from old phones. What is your favorite feature?

I don’t think this thread is “stupid” at all. I feel like it offers a platform for yearly adopters to share why they didn’t upgrade this year.

I’ve been doing yearly upgrades since 2012, only missing out in 2013 and 2015. I understand the excitement we all get when the keynote drops, when Cook mentions “now on to the iPhone”, the wait for the preorder window to go live, the agonising week-long wait and so on.

However the incremental upgrade each year has reached a point where it’s not worth my time or money to get the new iPhone. In my country, the buy back from carriers/Apple for the previous generation is rather shocking. Honestly, I think the 13 Pro series is the pinnacle of the iPhone X design. Just like how the iPhone 8 was the peak of the iPhone 6 design.

I love my 13 PM and it delivers in stellar fashion each day. I don’t think the 14 Pros are bad iPhones, not at all. But I think it’s a testament of how good the 13 Pros have been even after a year.

I wait 2 years to upgrade. That way I typically skip a minimal “s” upgrade and get something substantial. Despite the island, the 14 feels like a 12ss. Oh well. I knew that when I ordered it. Still a good phone and an upgrade over my last. If the 15 is a leap, maybe I’ll do a one year upgrade this time.

I got off the yearly adoption train last year when I didn’t get the 13 Pro. I felt like the 11 Pro I had got better battery life than the 12 Pro but I had already traded in. First time I partially regretted an upgrade. This year I would have kept the 12 Pro for another year if T-Mobile didn’t offer essentially a free upgrade.

A fresh case and battery is nice even if I’m not over the moon with the upgrades.

Looking at this thread, I'm starting to think I'm overanalyzing if the upgrade is worth it from a XR, haha. I used to upgrade nearly each year when my employer handed new phones out like candy, but once I changed jobs and had to start paying myself, I grabbed the XR and called it good enough. Now my mindset has changed and I'm not even sure the 14 Pro would be enough of a step up to feel worth it for how I use my phone. I should probably look into upgrading my 2017 iPad Pro before my phone since I use that far more.

This is me now %100. However, even with how I use my iPad I’ve never felt like it couldn’t do whatever I needed. And iPads don’t have awesome trade in deals. I was thinking I should switch to a prepaid line, but if I’m keeping a postpaid account I should take advantage of it somehow, that’s how I convinced myself to be ok with the trade in credits.

Wiped my 14 Pro and returning it this morning to my Apple store. A day of usage and I realized that it’s no upgrade to my 12 Pro. Phone is heavier, camera bump is ridiculous and the cell phone sensitivity is actually worse. Will stick out another year or more.

I was already happy with my 12Pro, just like to get in on the hype of release day and then return when I realize it doesn’t bring me much more. (It was the same with my 6S+. I tried so many upgrades but kept going back.)

I use my phone mainly for calls and streaming while in car. Very little pictures except when on vacation. So what’s the point? I’m not a social person who’s sharing or watching updates all day long…

more exciting about weekly Tesla software update than this yearly iPhone upgrade, kind of sad.
