I upgraded from a base 13 to a 14 pro max. Other than screen size and pro-motion, the big improvement for me is that the little issues that made me want to throw my 13 out the window are not present. No more random reloading of pages in Safari for no reason. No more random crashes by Safari on web pages (not Safari itself closing, but the web site stopping being displayed and an error message displaying on the page instead). No more random slowdowns, no more random 5-10 second lockups.

This feels like the iphone experience I was promised with the 13, which was my first.

As a bonus, battery life on this 14 pro max seems to be excellent and the video stabilization is really impressive.

The 14 line up is lackluster honestly, but I am sure someone here are gonna come out and defend apple like "sat communications WOW IM GONNA USE ALL THE TIME THANK U APPLE"

smh.

There is ZERO reason to upgrade to the 14 from the 13. Crash detection? lol.
Oh come on, have some fun... lol
It IS nicer... on every upgrade there is always something good.. what I am liking is the SPEED, wow...

It's a piece of hardware to run apps, scripts and hard coded routines. Align your expectations accordingly and your disappointment will wane

Edit: Oh yeah, it has a built in telephone and a camera. The telephone is likely to be unchanged from model to model, and the camera is showing to be not much better than the 13 Pro, other than capturing RAW images in a higher resolution

I am not understanding people saying they get yearly upgrades and that the 14 is the ho-hum one. I came a click away from getting a 13 and did not because I wanted the notch to be gone. My 11PM to 14PM has been a great upgrade but yes, a modern iPhone is still a modern phone. If anyone from 2006 and before saw literally any modern phone their minds would’ve been appropriately blown.

The 14 Pro Max is a big upgrade from my 11 Pro Max. It’s faster. Way faster. 5g is making a big difference when not using Wi-Fi. Extra screen real estate and always on display is great, new camera is nice and it has MagSafe for wallet attachments. I love it.

The wife and I were upgrade every year people.…We stopped at the 12 pro max & skipped the 13. We just grabbed the 14 pro max.

The 2 year upgrade cycle is perfect for countering Apple’s incremental upgrade strategy year over year. Probably could have made it one more year. We actually paid off the 12 pro max’s and gave them to our oldest kids. So much better than giving them back via trade.

My wife and I are/were upgrade every year people also. We both have 13 Pro's and this is the first year we are skipping. Our 13 Pro's are great and could seriously go a few more years. We'll see what the 15 brings.....

I’m blown away that this stupid thread keeps getting comments, but, carry on I guess.

So let’s change it up, those that upgraded from old phones. What is your favorite feature?
Promotion screen…always felt like I wasn’t missing out and wouldn’t notice it until I actually tried it on my new iPhone.

Frankly, no one should be doing yearly upgrades anyways. It is wasteful, irresponsible, and selfish not only with regards to using up the earth’s resources but also filling up landfills with electronic junk. My iPhone X works beautifully.
Agreed. Many of the same people howling about global warming and climate change are the same people upgrading their phones as soon as a new one is released. The hypocrisy is rich.

It does sort of hurt to read this, because I felt the same way this time too. In fact, this is the first year I didn’t have the new iPhone on launch day since the 3GS. Had to do a last minute order change and couldn’t pick up until Saturday. It struck me when I learned that I’d be waiting, just how little I cared. And I used to be someone that lined up overnight, and really found a lot of joy and fun in these launches.

Just one less thing in life to find excitement in nowadays.

Stand in the bright sunlight and compare the 13p vs 14p then let’s talk again

It’s time to stop upgrading every year. It simply doesn’t make sense anymore. Do it every two years, or maybe three. I’m coming from the 12 Pro. Was going to wait three years this time but the improvements on this version compelled me.

Also, how were you doing the $1000 trade in deal if you were upgrading from a one year old device? You weren’t on a prior trade in plan?

These plans are now three year commitments. Early upgrades involve big payoff charges.

I own the phone outright, bought direct from apple.

T-Mobile is 24 months, the up front value is $705 and T-Mobile then kicks in the rest over that period.

I’m happy with the upgrade.

As far as being disappointed, it seems people anticipated some kind of revolutionary way of using your phone the same exact way, but in a different way?

Safari/YouTube/calls/text/emails/games/etc. what will a new iPhone change?

The dynamic island was questionable, but is turning out to be a pleasant experience and far superior to the notch aesthetically.
Seems software is the bottleneck here if anything, as ios16 seemed just as exciting as the new iPhone.
