All this thread does for me is confirm the diminishing amount of tolerance and empathy people have. In today's self absorbed culture, people seem to have a hard time seeing the world from anything but their own point of view.

And stuff about Jobs is laughable. He was selling smart covers and cases for his own devices. He didn't feel strongly enough about the aesthetic to pass up the opportunity to pimp overpriced accessories.

Or to put it more accurately, I have a generalized hatred of people or the culture in general, and it could be a worldwide thing, not sure, but definitely in this country.........what is the deal with the universal acceptance of wrecking and completely obliterating the beauty and grace of apple products by putting some idiotic and ugly case on them?

Why can't people just be careful with their stuff? I carry my ipad all over the place and never once did I treat it like some joke. I'm not trying to act superior bc I think humility is the most important quality. I just hate that covering up these beautiful products with some idiotic case is so universally done. What is even the point of having such a beautiful thing

Chech back in after it finally slips out of your hand whilst wiping off the finger prints from the back and front for the the five hundredth time. Or do you wear gloves???:D

It annoys me but I'm not fixin to fly a plane into a building over it like y'all want to pretend

It just aggravates me. I've read the isaacson bio of jobs twice cuz I liked it a lot. This stupid case phenomenon goes against the motto of Apple to simplify. And the cases are damn ugly too. Sorry but I guess I just don't understand how one would drop a five hundred dollar item. I know I wouldn't and havent

Don't even compare your idiotic reasoning to terrorist attacks. You don't get to. You're a joke if you think we actually care.

If it's against apples motto, then why do they make cases? They even made iPod socks. I dropped my $2500 MacBook. $500 item isn't a lot to some people. And to others they like cases to protect their investment. But hating others for something so small is just pathetic.

Don't forget the iPod socks.

The latest iPads are so thin it's like carrying around a piece of window glass. So even with a protective case one must be fairly careful with it.

It's not universally accepted. Look around you'll find posts by others with the same, narrow-minded and judgmental mindset.

You might want to look up the word. Calling people idiotic for having differing preferences is not humility.

I couldn't care less what y'all do.
This thread proves otherwise. If you couldn't care less you wouldn't have posted the thread. This is one case where "could care less" is the correct phrase to use.

I think many people when post their opinion on the web exaggerate their point of view. I am sure if you meet OP in person, you would have a much more reasonable discussion.

It's like normal people when you see them walking they behave quite differently than when they are behind the wheels.

I know it's over priced by about $20,but I just love the fit and finish and attention to detail of the Apple SmartCase. Every hole is cut perfectly, the leather is of rugged but good quality and it is so thin and light. I love it, especially in the red.

I agree its a bit pricey--but its a great case and the finish is great. Its very close to the samsung case--which is plastic but similarly designed. I preferred the yellow green snot color :)

I can't wait to see the OP drop their phone or ipad and crack it and then wish they had put a case on it.

I'm not really taking sides. Everyone has a right to dress their gadgets as they like.

But I agree that apple products are very well designed as is and that Applecare + removes any concerns about dropping the device. Since most cases cost nearly 1/2 the price of Applecare, and you get so much more than just covering your device, it's worth it.

Still, some cases are nice to have. Love my Smart Cover, and I'll probably get some nice leather for the back of my Air just cause I like the feel :)

OK regarding covers:
Just a couple reasons I do use a cover.
1. I find ipads a little too slippery without some type of cover.
2. I travel a lot, and when reading or watching movies need some way to prop the iPad at an adjustable viewing angle.

But agree with the concept--they are designed very nice to start with.

Not true

AppleCare+ is $150: $100 up front and $50 deductible per incident. So without a case, you have to pay $100 up front, and every time an accident happens, you have to pay $50. After 2 incidents, you have to pay the full repair price.

A case cost less than one repair incident, and you don't have to pay and extra $100 up front.

It's like when people put those silly shiny oversize mag wheels on their car? I think it makes the car look stupid. Just my opinion. They probably think my car looks stupid. It's a few years old Japanese econobox.

But the thing is, a lot of those mag wheels are going on ugly damn cars to begin with. The thing with the cases on the apple stuff........somebody accused me of having a shrine to jobs. Nonsense. I don't keep shrines to people. But I like the jobs bio and some things about him. But one thing that hugely aggravated me about him was when he introduced that cover for the ipad 2. That guy totally betrayed his principles with that piece of crap cover. Don't get me wrong, he is still great, his achievements, he is in the pantheon of business greats. I'm just saying, in my opinion, that dumb ugly cover he introduced with the ipad 2 is not consistent with his and Jony Ives design principles and aesthetic which was to minimize and simplify.

Except I can't stand the naked iPad Air. It looks really nice, but doesn't feel good in my hands: cold, slippery, sharp aluminum. The leather SmartCover fixed that.

Look around you. Things that are designed to be handled usually have a comfortable outer layer: steering wheel, hammer handle, knife handle. Even door knobs, while made with metal, is rounded, not sharp like the iPad Air.

I humbly disagree. I don't find the edges on the iPad Air too sharp, nor do I think it's too cold, especially after it's been on for 10 seconds and then warmed up a bit. That's all up to individual preference, though.

I was extremely protective of my first four iPads that I had, but this year I bought AppleCare with it and have been using it without a case. So far it doesn't have a scratch in a month and a half of use, knock on wood.

Depends

If you want resell value. You better put a case on it. No matter how careful you are. You will get a ding or scratch overtime. Of course u can opt for apple care plus. But that decreases your net return.

Some of us have very young kids. I got 1 and 3 year old. U betcha I have a Griffith military case on iPad. Seen too many friends iPads screens get broken by toddlers doing toddler things.

I would put a soft case on my iPad if I had a young kid. While I want to protect the iPad, my major concern is the kid dropping the iPad on his toes. It would hurt a lot.

I would prefer no case, but the naked Air seems to slip and slide out of my grasp. The leather makes it easier to get a grip..

I just wish they offered a 4 fold cover. The 3 fold stinks..

I prefer no case on my iPad Air. However, I like it to be protected when I travel. So, I bought a iPad Smart Case. I like it.

 Wow.

Why is it difficult to understand that others may view the matter differently and are merely making a different choice than the one you prefer?

I drink my coffee black with nothing in it. I don't like covering up the flavor with a bunch of sugar or cream or flavorings. But I don't get worked up over other people choosing to have a coffee flavored cup of sugar and cream.

A metaphor not referencing automobiles, finally.

These threads are really kind of humorous. So many out there where some will judge others by whether they use a case, what kind of case they use or even if guys have a white iPad vs the black.

I love the threads where opinions about what the OP thinks, likes, prefers and why. I also appreciate when others chime in with their experiences and preferences. I've learned about new cases, new screen protectors, etc. that have been so much better than what I had previously.

But some of these "hate" threads are just totally ridiculous. Seriously? Who really cares if someone else uses a case on their iPad or not? I wear a watch - do you hate me? Just saying....

I've learned my lesson the hard way about cases. I always use them now. I know it's over priced by about $20,but I just love the fit and finish and attention to detail of the Apple SmartCase. Every hole is cut perfectly, the leather is of rugged but good quality and it is so thin and light. I love it, especially in the red.

I haven't learned the hard way as I've always had cases on my phones and iPads but my phones have been dropped a few times and my original iPad was dropped by my granddaughter. It had a case which protected it so there was only minimal damage.

I too like the Apple cases - have them in red and black. I've tied so many cases (now that's a problem- my problem) but am finished now and very pleased with the Apple smart ones.
