I couldn't care less what y'all do. But this last poster understands. They are beautiful and graceful products with a superb quality, fit and finish I've rarely if ever seen. I just think the world wud b a more beautiful place if these ugly cases didn't exist. None of them will ever look as good as the product itself. I happen to be quite a fan of the anodized aluminum. Jobs actually built a factory in China to make it in the quantities needed.

These products only happened cuz of him. He didn't live to see something beautiful and elegant like the retina mini, whose form factor he opposed for a long time, or the Air. Hell, he never even saw the 3. Those of us who enjoy slim, light, graceful, simple products that "just work" should remember him and be thankful to him. It's quite possible, if not highly probable, that if jobs had never lived, we would be using junk made by gates and co. and I can attest from prior experience lasting till a year ago.......that the experience wouldn't be a fraction as enjoyable.

Ug cop, your dumb comment proves you have no life to begin with. Nobody makes you do anything, moron. Address your concerns to the committee that handles your personal decision-making and how you choose to spend your (worthless) time. That would be you.

I think we've been looking at this all wrong. the OP doesnt have an issue with usage of cases per se' he just has an issue with anything that defies what Steve Jobs stood for or created. His last post displays a borderline unhealthy obsession. I am willing to bet he has a shrine of steve jobs in his house with candles lit around it.

Perhaps you need some professional help....

I carry my ipad all over the place and never once did I treat it like some joke. I'm not trying to act superior bc I think humility is the most important quality. I just hate that covering up these beautiful products with some idiotic case is so universally done.

People who drop iPads are not necessarily treating them "like some joke". Ever heard of an accident?

You've repeatedly mentioned you are strapped for cash (not sure why we need to know that, repeatedly).

Here's a little scenario for you.

My wife accidentally dropped her brand new iPad Mini a few months ago. Gravity won. It happens. She had a case on it. The case absorbed most of the impact. But the iPad still sustained a single long hairline crack across the screen.

We took it to Apple, fully expecting a $250 OOW repair bill. They told us a single continuous crack in the screen was covered by their warranty. We got a brand new Mini, free of charge.

Had she not been using a case, which is quite elegant BTW, the screen would likely have shattered, not been covered by Apple, and we would have been out $250.

Do you have $250 to spare? Doesn't sound like it from your posts.

I think many people would love to go caseless, but they have these little nagging things called common sense, and budgets.

I'm also not really a fan of cases since they add unnecessary bulk and heft, and I never have one on my phone, but on an iPad it's a different story. I have the smart cover on my rMini not for "protection" but because it folds into a stand, which in my opinion is a super important and practical use case for a tablet.

Big cases are stupid. Ive owned tons of cell phones, laptops, tablets in my life and never once dropped any of them, not once.

Most people treat their electronics like last nights leftover takeout. People sit on their ipads, throw them down the stairs, use them as placemates, and yet they wonder why theyre dropping them all the time. Cmon like really?

I agree, I've used both my iPads with a stand from day one.

I'm not some jobs cult follower. That's silly. But I appreciate the simplicity and elegance of apple products. I remember reading here once where someone wished for a much bigger battery in the next ipad even if it tripled thickness and weight. Couldn't disagree more. I like apples vision. We'd all be using laptops without them, and it's quite true, in the words of that well known tech writer, they were like boat anchors. Good riddance. Apple is a remarkable company. It invented the pc industry and also ended it.

The OP certainly has a way with words to get a discussion going.

I agree with him in that I prefer my iPad mini 'bare'. Heck, the thinness and lightness of it is half it's appeal. I hold my girlriends mini with a form fitting cover on it and it feels annoyingly thick and bulky in comparision.

I do carry mine in a form fitting carrying bag to keep it safe in transit however, but when I pull it out ... it's in the raw.

Now, for my daughters mini - I have a smart case for her, since I know she has, and will again - drop it on the floor.

As far as 'hating' other people who use a cover, I'm sure the OP was just trying to use hyperbole to stir up discussion.
But for mine, I've discovered I can be careful with it and not scratch/bump/drop it so far, and having it in it's 'natural', 'unwrapped' state is very appealing to me.

Are you still talking about your iPad?

My girl has a much thicker case which I wouldn't use; mine is very similar to the poetic slimline. I need a certain amount of protection as I use my Mini as a reference when working in the garage or on motorcycle trips.

Why would you throw leftovers down the stairs? Also, can you give me some examples of anyone throwing their iPad down the stairs or using it as a place mat?

the bottom line here. An iphone/ipad etc. without a case almost always looks and FEELS a lot better than one in it. Few could disagree with that.

But a dented, warped, cracked iphone/ipad etc. looks like crap, and no one can disagree with that.

For those of us who think we can be careful and not screw up and bust it ... the choice is obvious.

Wow. This thread is crazy.

Personally, I am a fan of cases. I have one on my iPhone 5S and my iPad Air. Do I like the simple beauty of Apple products? Yes. Let's face it, you can be as careful as humanly possible, but accidents happen. I would rather be protected.

Or to put it more accurately, I have a generalized hatred of people or the culture in general, and it could be a worldwide thing, not sure, but definitely in this country.........what is the deal with the universal acceptance of wrecking and completely obliterating the beauty and grace of apple products by putting some idiotic and ugly case on them?

Why can't people just be careful with their stuff? I carry my ipad all over the place and never once did I treat it like some joke. What is even the point of having such a beautiful thing

I do have a Skin on the back of my rMini and a Smart Cover and a case on my phone. I should just skin my iPhone but I've been lazy.

I'm not a fan of cases but I do like the smart cover... it lets me prop up my tablet when I need to stand it up... I would carry my phone naked more often if it were so scuff prone. A grain of sand that somehow made it's way into your pocket could tear up your screen and backing of your phone... :(

I couldn't care less what y'all do.

Then why did you even bother opening your mouth if you don't care? Cause it sure seemed like you did. Either that, or you just wanted someone to pay attention to you for once. "Y'all". That "wud b" why you did.

Geez. The more you say, the worse you sound. And ugcop is right. This thread is a waste of time, except for the simple fascination of hearing what absurd thing you'll say next... Come on...we're all waiting...

My 128GB WiFi + Cellular iPad Mini with Retina Display cost as much as the baby's Uppababy Vista stroller. It's nowhere near as durable but is exposed to the same abuse. I am careful, but its not me I'm worried about.

Another example is co-workers or friends handling your device. A small drop and you could easily chip the chamfered edge. You don't want to be a jerk about touching your stuff.

Worse yet, I noticed my wedding ring would would wear against the chamfered edge. Should I not wear my ring?

Now to the wife. She carries an iPhone 5s and rMini in her purse. The two alone would ding each other. Let alone her keys, makeup, coins, wallet zipper, etc. that are in the purse. Her beautiful iDevices would be ugly in no time.

Last point for me. I resale all my Apple products every year in order to fund the latest and greatest. eBay is brutal to worn electronics.

Yes, some cases are ugly, but so are some ties or sweaters.

Hey, some people like to pawn stuff. Some people like cases. Who cares?

I can't believe people can't be more responsible with their money.

It's their money. If they wanna treat it bad, they can. Some people have more disposable income than others. If they choose to trash a product and buy another so be it.

My main reason for using a case is for the standing capability. On the tabletop I can sit the iPad at a perfect angle for reading and typing. If we want to stand it up tall we can do that too. It also makes it more convenient to carry, like a briefcase or whatever.

Sure, it does hide the unit but the beauty of the iPad IMO has been the usability and experience, not the outer shell.
