Post of the day. *Can read the screen without looking at it *
hahaha, it's just you don't need to look at the screen for unlock. But that depends much on what do you prefer and your habit to use the phone.
For me, TouchID is good enough :)

Another fan of face ID on my 11 Pro. For me it works perfectly, and is way faster than touch ever was. Living in a cold climate, it's also nice that I can be wearing gloves (if they are touch enabled). Just purchased a new iPad Pro too, and it works great there too. Really hope the 13 keeps it.

Don’t worry, there’s no chance they are coming back, it’s not on the cards at all. We’ve had better technology since 17

I like Touch ID. I can turn on my phone without looking at it.

You do know there is a way to fix that. I mean you’ll let everybody see your notifications but

TouchId is so much better than faceId. It’s like magic. With touchId I just place my finger on part of the screen whereas with faceId I need to point my phone camera directly at my face and remove my mask/sunglasses/toothbrush to get it to work, or fumble around with my passcode when it inevitably fails.

In fact, touchId is so fast for me by the time my phone is out of my pocket it’s already unlocked and ready to go.

If Apple is planning on going back to TouchID, I'm going to be very happy. FaceId seems futuristic and cool, but fails too often. TouchId worked just fine and I don’t see why they needed to replace it.

Joking aside, I’m glad it works for you. My galaxy S9 had the perfect fingerprint reader and IMO apple really crapped the bed deciding not to put a fingerprint reader on the back. It was easy to find without looking and worked about 99.5% of the time. FaceId on my iPhone 12 mini was cool at first, but I’ve had so many times in the last week that it just wouldn’t work. Compared to my galaxy S9, it’s a definite downgrade in functionality, though it will come in handy during the winter when I have gloves on…

I would like both, but it’s hard to justify adding both to the phone where space is a premium.

Everyone has their own opinion - i think Face-ID is so much better and more reliable than touch-id. I have Face on iPhone and touch on ipad Rarely, touch works on first press for me. Yes masks are a problem but up here in the north country Touch requires glove removal in winter to use.

Each for their own

Guess what. Face ID is so much better than Touch ID because I can unlock my iPhone without even touching it. Now THAT'S magic.

I'd imagine if TouchID does make a return to future iPhones it will be in addition to FaceID

Exactly! Why do people always assume you can only have it one way?

When I ask for TouchID back on my phone, I’m not saying I want that instead of FaceID. No, I want TouchID AND FaceID.

I’d like one of the security options to allow me to choose to require both TouchID and FaceID verification. But also the option to use one or the other. Or to turn one of them off, so maybe I require FaceID and TouchID won’t do anything.

that would be useful!

I would love to have both options for everyone to choose from, but the problem is a lot of people want Apple to make that choice for them, hence why some members are not exactly receptive to having both forms of biometric authentication on one idevice.

Your phone is always pointed directly at your face then? Or does it magically hover into position without having to touch it? 🤔
I have my phone on a stand at my desk. When I get a notification, the screen lights up and I just look at the screen to see the notifications. If I were on Touch ID, I'd have to reach over and physically touch the button to unlock it.

Having both as an option would be nice. Also I don’t mind having the FPS embedded in the Power button, like Sony.

As for unlocking to see notifications, Apple need to get with the game and have always on Display.

Don’t really care for AOD since our phones are always on us, or next to us, prefer raise to wake or tap once to wake display, AOD is just another pointless feature like 120hz that will drain the battery quicker.

You might be getting AOD on the pro models this year.

Ah, this makes sense. Though can’t you also get notifications on a computer as well, like through iMessage? I haven’t looked at setting those up but in lieu of that, this is not a bad use case while at a desk.

This is my use case also when I'm at the office and I don't have a Mac there.

I want both. When I’m wearing a mask, Face ID is extremely frustrating but I love it the rest of the time.

FaceID has never really failed me either - I'm afraid I'm one of those that has no desire for TouchID now that face masks are no longer a requirement.......

Right? Touch ID just seems outdated at this point. There's just something magical about just looking at your screen and it unlocks for you without even touching it.

If you ever tried a Samsung S20+ 5K you would know how good a finger and face scanner can be together.

And if you have ever used a Samsung Tab 7 Plus you'd know that your thumb just naturally lands over the scanner when you hold it... not on an exterior edge.

I work in healthcare and I miss touchID. I wear a face mask all day, every day, covid or not, and I can’t wear a watch. We have a “nothing below the elbow” policy so no watches, no rings, no painted fingernails or fake nails, etc.

I went from the 11 to the SE 2020 but battery life was absolutely horrible. The 12 mini is doing fine, but I wish it had a fingerprint reader.
