Sorry to hear that. I once knocked my MacBook Pro and the entire base cover came out and the entire laptop base is bent like a V.
Had a Genius Bar appointment and they answered it is fixable - just need to change the lower and upper case at around $650.
The MacBook was barely keeping up with my workflow and I eventually bought a new one.

No case can cover the battle scar underneath :D
Own it or fix it :)

Friend of mine dropped his MacBook Air during the return period.
He then damaged the packaging on purpose and called Apple for a new unit claiming shipping damage.
Not legal and wrong, but it actually worked out.

It sounds like the Thread Starter values his own integrity higher than the $ value gained by committing a fraud like that.

Not sure what this has to do with Apple policy given your friend simply lied to obtain a refund...

Unluckily, I don't have a credit card or insurance plan that covers this. Thanks for the tips though.

Anyway, it's been a day since it happened and to be honest I barely notice it any more. It's still a drop-dead gorgeous machine, now with a slightly dog-eared look that gives it extra charm :p

Dude, again, I echo others in congratulating you for manning up and just living with it. You're way too rational, ethical, and un-entitled to be on this forum. Karma is on your side friend. Besides, as I said way back on page 1 or 2, chicks dig the battle scars. IDGAF is the only way to roll.

I would get it looked over at least. If they're willing to swap it out, great. If not, then you know that it's at least functional.

I could not 'live with it.' I would take my lumps and pay to get it replaced...and then find a way to insure it so I never have to again.

From a height of about 3 feet. This is my third day using a specced out 15" that I've literally waited years to buy.

So I have a laptop backpack that has both a top and side zipper for quick removal. Was leaving a cafe with the Mac in my bag and forgot the side was unzipped. As I turned and stood up I heard a loudass metallic clatter behind me -- I thought I had knocked over a sign or something. Everyone in the cafe turned to stare -- I was genuinely confused until a waiter meekly told me "Sorry sir, I think you dropped your computer."

F%%%. The laptop had launched out of my backpack with quite some torque and landed hard on the right corner before coming to a rest upside down. I opened the lid... and yes, it turned on. There's now a nice fat bite out of the chassis and a few scuffs on the lid. The body seams near the impact have spread oh-so-sightly, and the location of impact has deformed a few mm meaning the lid no longer closes perfectly flush. But other than that everything seems fine. I swear this thing is like a slab of granite. Very well-built.

But honestly. I don't deserve nice things.

Beauty mark! I had the same exact thing happen to my 2010 MBP years ago. I learned to accept it very quickly.
