MacRumors has a Market place?:eek:

Hmm I learn new things every day :)

edit: Never mind I can't find one so I'm guessing we DON'T have one.

Carry on :)

No, there is. You just have to have a certain amount of posts in order to view it. I think its...500.

To be honest, i don't think you get much at all if you sell it unrepaired. If it can be repaired decently it should still sell decently. This incident really shows the limitation of the aluminum cases, and is one disadvantage of them is that they dent extremel easily, something hardened plastic generally will not do.

yeah, that's what I didn't like when I had a macbook pro, but I kept mine in a speckz hard case shell and it helped tremendously-although the speck case scratched the aluminum. I switched to a less frilly plastic macbook and it's withheld the dings well.

Okay, I managed to bend back the bad parts of the display housing, letting the lid close all the way and stay closed. Then, I was able to open up the ethernet port and got it working.

The problem is 100% cosmetic now.

*Looks at photo*

*passes out*

*wakes back up*

I'd worry about damage to your hard disk after a fall like that. Wouldn't want to be using it one day and then all of a sudden *click click click CLUNK* and then a kernel panic. Thankfully the hard drives in the unibodies are easy to pop out, so I'd grab another one and replace that at least.

Or maybe I'm just ultra-paranoid.

Update: Just found this:

Owie, it should have hit a hard surface!

By the way, I also dropped my white MacBook once. It only got a little scratch and still worked fine. But a month later, its HDD started making a weird clicking sound every time I tried to open certain files and soon stopped working. I don't know if the drop had something to do with the HDD crash, but you might want to watch your drive.

Can't believe it suffered such a hit and the glass didn't crack. One guy here dropped his down a couple of carpeted steps and the whole screen was "spider-webbed". Good luck with the sale, hopefully you can find someone who is looking for a machine to hide away in clamshell mode :p Although it may be a bit of an open clamshell lol

amazing

It doesn't look much better, but at least I am able to close the lid and use the ethernet port.

what you have done i think is truly great. dont listen to people saying it looks bad yea its not what it was before but you must be proud to get it from the first pic to that.

I think you should just take it to a genius bar and claim that it came that way when you bought it! Then you'll be the proud owner of a brand new MBP!:D

OUCH! Make sure your data is backed up! If the machine is still running, the hard drive isn't dead. that's good - but you may have brought it closer to death so make sure to back up your data asap if it isn't already!

I think from all this discussion the thing we can learn is MacBooks are pretty even when damaged, tough enough to take a case bending knock yet keep running and seem to hold a value no matter what :) Try reselling any other laptop that gets flung from a backpack for $1400 and see how many people jump at the chance.

For a new Unibody MBP you could get MUCH more than $1000 even if it is damaged like that. If its really almost entirely cosmetic, there are lots of people who won't care at all. Also those people (like me) who just connect to a monitor KB and mouse and just use it as a desktop won't care much either. I'd bet $1500 is more than possible.

I really wouldnt get too set on $1500. You can buy a refurb one for a couple hundred more. You would have a tough time convincing me that something inside did not get banged up and that it is worth saving only $200 over a refurb in pristine condition with a warranty. Just my two cents.

now you should be proud of what you've done over the tragedy, and change your photo, which doesn't fit what you really are.

Next time get a case and a better backpack.

I found another MacBook Pro that was damaged exactly like mine - buckling at the ethernet port. He had his in a Spec hard shell case when he dropped his.

But yeah, I'm getting rid of the backpack and getting a case that doesn't require to be zipped up in order to hold the laptop.
