I originally planned on buying an 8 and let the X users beta test the phone but that was more trying to convincing myself that I didn't want the X. I just played with one in stores and it is unequivocally the best iPhone Apple has ever made. The feel is extremely premium and the screen is so good that it looks fake, as if the icons are stickers on the screen.

Then I planned on buying a used 7 to hold me over for the XS but the iPhone X doesn't feel like a beta product, it feels like a flagship product.

The 8 series is just a poor mans X. Essentially they have a lot of the same items. I purchased an 8+ and it’s amazing. Best battery life I’ve ever seen from Apple and the screen is a massive improvement. I don’t feel sorry in the slightest for purchasing it to use as my daily driver. I only got an X for testing purposes and I didn’t even preorder it because again.. 8+ fits my needs to a T. To each is own I guess.

Don't feel bad for me, there is no need. I bought the 8 Plus because it has all the positives of the X with none of the negatives. I'm happy.

I love my 8+. If I had wanted an X, I would have purchased an X. Don't feel bad for me, (or do, I really don't care). I bought the device that suited my needs the best. Next year's iPhone will be the best iPhone ever made, and so on and so forth. Working in technology for 2+ decades you know there's always something better around the corner, so you buy what fits your needs in the now. The 8+ was that phone for me.

Enjoy your X, but please spare us the "I feel bad for the 8 owners" drivel.

Why - do you also feel bad for new buyers of the iPhone 7 as well?

8 is a great phone. 8+ has been very popular according to Cook. I'll play with the X over the next few weeks to see if I want to update when I'm eligible next spring or wait for the Xs.

I agree with you I also bought 8+ without even looking to the X because honestly 256GB is expensive and the main reason for upgrading to 8+ was for 256GB plus dual camera and I’m more into Plus design

I went from a 7 to a 8+ but T-Mobile lets me get a new iPhone every year, I’m glad I waited because after seeing yellow screen complaints and next year the tech will be upgraded. Also the larger version is coming out next year which is will be great
Says who? To any of this.
Screen tech will be the same as this year. I highly doubt they will change it in one year. Also there is no guarantee there will be a larger x model next year. Even if there is why do you think there will be different screen technology.
Just excuses to me really.

The X is a beta tester for the real OLED iphone coming out in 8 months..... don't feel bad for 8 owners, we went for old Mr. reliable while the X owners provide feedback to Apple on the Galaxy S6 OLED.
Nonsense. You know nothing about anything coming out in the future.

Because Apple is already working on their own OLED so they don't have to buy from Samsung?

Their were rumors pointed to having a larger version of the phone. And I’ll wait for the beta testers of X to get Face ID perfected and let the bugs play out and be fixed.

Proof?
Apple can not come up with their own made panels in less than a years time. Give me a damn break. Tons of manufacturers use the same oled factories. And the tech won’t be different.

I don’t feel bad at all. This phone is an extra $300. It’s about 40% more expensive. Not everyone needs or wants or can afford a flagship. If $1000 is the new norm, I feel bad for all future buyers.

I bought one with some internal reservations, and an hopefully happy with it. It’s absokutely a want versus need though. $80 for a new battery in my 6s plus would have had me going at least another year, possibly two.

I had an 8 Plus for 2 weeks, but I decided to return it and get an X instead (getting delivered today). The 8 Plus is a great phone for those coming maybe from the 6/6 Plus and earlier phones. I have a 6S Plus and the upgrade was not really worth it. The camera, speakers, true tone, etc. are all great, but the X is a logical step forward.
Apple had to release the 8 though as not everyone is willing to pay $200-$300 extra for the OLED screen, Face ID, and slightly improved cameras. Some don't care about all those bells and whistles. I do though. So Apple needed to release something for just regular folks. I think it was a smart idea on their end. Next year we'll probably see the iPhone X discounted as it will be a 2017 model and there will be no need for them to release the older form factor anymore.

Or choice. Don't think people really need to make excuses to not buy something.

Well I wasn’t impressed with the specs either since they matched the iPhone 8 Plus, I was hoping the ram, and battery life would exceed the plus but it didn’t. Maybe next year

Interesting reading the public self-justification for whatever phone people have purchased! Me? I buy what I want to please me, and really don't care what other people think about what it is or looks like. As long as it's what I want, looks how I like, and performs the duties I need, who cares right?

Every year people complain about "yellow screen" and it's really just part of the glue curing from the manufacturing process. It goes away in a few days. It's the same line of crap as everyone complaining about bad battery life after an OS update -- they either need to just reboot or recalibrate the battery. Just the same whinging over nothing.
I already see a few posts on the forums with the issues, the yellow issue should be a thing of the past by now

I beg to differ considering this is an OLD Samsung OLED panel from the S6. Apple could always pay a bit more and move to the better S8/Note 8 Panel.

Say what you want. The X is a Beta Tester, the 8 is a classic. Don't feel bad for us.
