I absolutely love my 8+. It has all the features I want (true tone, better camera, better processor, etc.) without the problems that the X has (screen width, strange aspect ratio, notch, etc.). I’m not sure why everyone thinks that if you got the 8+ you really wanted the X but couldn’t afford it. Why would I pay an extra $200 for features I don’t want/would never use?

I beg to differ considering this is an OLD Samsung OLED panel from the S6. Apple could always pay a bit more and move to the better S8/Note 8 Panel.

Say what you want. The X is a Beta Tester, the 8 is a classic. Don't feel bad for us.
Exactly.... I'm not that anxious to lose fingerprint ID. I don't see a lot of difference between the 6s+ and 8+ though to be honest with you. I'll wait until next October and then look at the X again.

Well I wasn’t impressed with the specs either since they matched the iPhone 8 Plus, I was hoping the ram, and battery life would exceed the plus but it didn’t. Maybe next year
Most of the specs are the same but the rear second camera is different as well as the front.
3gigs of ram is totally fine for iOS. We where complaining 3 years ago that iPhone 6+ was only at 1 for how many years(1gig is really bad, 2 on the 6S was enough). 3gigs is plenty for this type of operating system. It’s not android that needs 6.
Battery life should be very good and they squeezed a little bit larger of a battery in the the X than in the 8+. In a form factor of an 8. It’s not a small thing.
But yes if there is a larger model next year they should get much better battery if they do their internals like they did the X.

I love my 8 Plus - it is a big step up from the 5s I was using. I get to try out the X that is coming today for my daughter. I told her I get to open the box since I am paying for the phone! I might regret not having the latest and greatest, but I’m too old to be that concerned with it. I keep my phones A LONG TIME! Original iPhone, then iPhone 4, iPhone 5s and now 8 Plus.

Plus I don’t get it why I should Pay 999$ for an iPhone with similar processor and similar RAM and 100-50 MAH battery difference

Just open the same app on your 8 Plus and new X, you'll automatically know that waiting another 8 months is the right answer.

I now see that anyone that says the X is a beta tester has different thoughts about heir decision. It’s justification is all you’re trying to say.
Classic is boring. 3 year old design. The 8’s shouldnt of even existed imo. The 7’s should of ended that stretched out cycle of big top and bottom borders.

It’s actually not an old Samsung panel. It’s an Apple design that Samsung fabricates.

Apple has already answered questions about the OLED panel and stated it’s their own design.

Agreed. Just walked into Verizon and bought an X for my wife. Took it to her office to set it up. Wouldn't swipe up from the bottom. Took it back and they fiddle-farted around with it and got it working, sent me on my way. Took it back to her office to set up and it screwed up again... bottom half of the screen wouldn't work.

My wife was already apprehensive of the hardware changes but that experience right outta the box sent her running...or, rather, sent me running back to Verizon to return the thing. Nope. Not this year.

Yes, I understand there's bound to be a few glitches and hardware/software problems when they produce so many units but I also understand that my total this year was like $300 MORE than for my 7+ last year. If you want that much more for something, it better friggin work when I open it.

The X is a beta tester for the real OLED iphone coming out in 8 months..... don't feel bad for 8 owners, we went for old Mr. reliable while the X owners provide feedback to Apple on the Galaxy S6 OLED.

that's the theory
however when you see the phone its actually terrific
its also Samsung's latest screen so is already version 12

Don't feel sorry for me. I know what I bought. I bought an 8+ because that's what I wanted. I can certainly afford an X if I wanted one. I want to wait for the next version simple as that. I'm not a kid who's jealous of what other people own. Man, this is just like when the Plus came out and you were labeled as stupid if you didn't buy one. Everyone is free to make their own choices and everyone doesn't run out and buy a flagship phone the second it appears. Years from now how many people will still be using 7's and 8's just like I still see iPhone 5's?

The 8 series is just a poor mans X. Essentially they have a lot of the same items. I purchased an 8+ and it’s amazing. Best battery life I’ve ever seen from Apple and the screen is a massive improvement. I don’t feel sorry in the slightest for purchasing it to use as my daily driver. I only got an X for testing purposes and I didn’t even preorder it because again.. 8+ fits my needs to a T. To each is own I guess.

Are you a Quality Engineer?

I originally planned on buying an 8 and let the X users beta test the phone but that was more trying to convincing myself that I didn't want the X. I just played with one in stores and it is unequivocally the best iPhone Apple has ever made. The feel is extremely premium and the screen is so good that it looks fake, as if the icons are stickers on the screen.

Then I planned on buying a used 7 to hold me over for the XS but the iPhone X doesn't feel like a beta product, it feels like a flagship product.
Just bought my 8 Plus less than a month ago and love it. Congrats on your purchase, glad you love your X but really, get off your high horse.

?? How so? I didn't come from a 6s or 7. Got rid of my 6 for a Note 8, thought the screen was nice but too narrow, decided to get an 8 to feel at home. Considering there are Apps not "optimized" for the X, Face ID having kinks, and reporting screen issues.....yeah it's a beta tester.

Why shouldn't the 8's exist? So should the iphone SE also not exist?

I already see a few posts on the forums with the issues, the yellow issue should be a thing of the past by now
OK, did some more reading and it's not glue, but that's still not right. There is no such thing as "true white", which is why there's a whole science around color temperatures and calibration. Most people have no issue when True Tone is turned off, so it's not an issue with the screen. Different screens and different settings have different color temps, that's life. You never notice it unless comparing to something else.

I don't. They picked the phone that they wanted. Nothing is wrong with that so I don't pity them for the choice they made. It's their money to spend as they choose. 😉

I'm coming from a 6 Plus. The 1 GB of ram was laughable. Especially with iOS 11.... things have become unbearably slow. Everything needs to reload anytime apps are switched.

Defensive mode if ever there was one! lol In truth though, the 8 is a classic, but a classic that is practically indistinguishable at any reasonable distance from the iPhone 6, or 6S, or 7 that came before it.

The note is much better phone than the 8’s in my opinion I would of stuck with that phone for a year till you wanted to get back into Apple.
The 8’s where a filler upgrade. Speed wise you won’t notice a difference between the 8’s and the 7’s(in everyday use). Basically the same phone minus wireless charging which isn’t a big deal to a lot. Glass back could also be a negative to a lot of people. Cameras are better on the 8’s I’ll give it that.
The 8’s where for the people that had the 6 or 6s that didn’t want to wait till the x came out and price difference(even though they raised pricing on the 8’s for some odd reason). The pricing for the + version isn’t much less than the x also.
Also the 8’s are for the people that don’t want to learn new gestures and are OK with staying with a old and boring design. Someone like my 70 year old Mom. She would be happy with an 8 for just speed reasons and better cameras than her 6+.
