I hate that everyone has a Mac computer at university now. I used to like the exclusivity, and I think when I am done with my MBP I'll get a comparable Windows PC, just so I'm not like everyone else. I'm thinking the same way with the iPhone as well, I've ordered myself a Torch 9860 to fart around with until the iPhone 5 comes out and I quite like not being another faceless iPhone drone.

I think the fact that Apple products are now very much conformist and no longer unique makes the comparison to Microsoft very poignant.

Yea, you are right. I care more about not conforming than I do about what I would like to use for work and using my preferred OS.

I guess I should have worded it better Apple and Microsoft is in the business of making money .If you want a OS will you have more control than it is Linux. Both Apple and Microsoft are a closed and lockdown OS where Linux is open .

That is stating the obvious:rolleyes:
Yes Apple and Microsoft give some limited control where one can move files around on the desktop ,change wallpaper ,screensaver ,icons or themes.I can have dock on the right or left or at the bottom.I can have the dock disappear when my mouse cursor is away from it.

Yes Microsoft gives limited control over thems ,sound effects or how folders display or show content. My point is Apple and Microsoft give what is called limited control .You want to control how OS looks and feels you need Linux or you need hack skin tools for windows or OS X but even than it may not work do to the lockdown OS.

The thing is I'm not saying Apple and Microsoft have to give people so much control like Linux  but they should give more control or option where we choose the way OS look and feel. Many people hate OS X do to thems ,sound effects ,icon or mouse cursor thems or skins.

Other think is lack of control or options with the scrollbar ,full screan,Exposé ,Mission Control ,Dashboard so on.You cannot turn it on or off or change the way you want it.
When you have a corporation that has to provide tech support, you inherently can't allow for major OS mods to be allowed.

How old are you?

This is so ridiculous.

I'm a graphic artist and just find windows is so plain looking and OS X so colorful and vivid and way more appealing .Also when comes to multimedia they rock big time.

Yes for some people the way the computer looks and the way the OS looks and feels and colorful and vivid OS is just as important of having the top of line hardware and good programs that have lots of feature.

I just hope that Apple does not move away from 10 years of doing this to jump down to the PC crowd of the iPhone ,iPod and iPad where they are making lots of cash.

I don't know about you, but I don't use Launchpad and I turned off "natural" scrolling.

Now my Mac is almost exactly like Snow Leopard was, aside from a few aesthetic things like in the finder, etc.

I, too, hope that Apple doesn't move completely away from a true desktop OS, in favor of something more similar to iOS, but.. it hasn't happened yet.

Except Apple makes products consumers actually want.

As for the way they do things and their entire approach, it's been this way for years. This is nothing new.

Apple as a rule always went their own way and generally thought they knew better than others, better than users - to the point of knowing users better than they know themselves.

The net result is that a) Apple leads in the industry in consumer tech innovation, and b) they have surpassed Exxon Mobil in valuation.

Apple is nothing like Microsoft - in terms of philosophy, approach to technology, and sheer innovation (outclassing everyone else while on a smaller budget: NO WASTE, ALL EFFICIENCY.) And Apple is a model of successful management.

Apple is just resolute in what they do. And they keep being right. Sometimes in the face of stiff opposition, that eventually moves in Apple's direction.

The only thing similar about Apple and MS is that both CEOs are named Steve.

I find Apple is becoming too much like Microsoft now.

sorry for my rent but I'm jus so mad .

All companies are alike in their main priority is making money for their shareholders. It's all profit driven but at least there are competitors if you don't like what they are doing.

Your at a university now and you have money to burn on an iPhone or Torch 9860 ? Kids are definitely spoiled nowadays :D.

I don't get what you're complaint is. You don't like Windows or OSX because they don't give you options. You've found Linux which gives you what you want, and you still complain. Windows and OSX are easier for people to use. Do you rally want them giving people control over things they have no business messing with? The cost of tech support would ruin them.

There's a reason most people don't use Linux; it's confusing and offers things most do not need.

That is not what I was saying at all.No where was I saying OS X or Windows have to be like Linux.

I was just saying to the poster above me that Apple and Microsoft give some limited control over things talk about in my post above .

I was just saying all complaints about Lion here at macrumors would be fixed if Apple give more option of how OS looks and feels. No where did I say it has to be like Linux.

And nowhere did I imply you had said it. I was talking about customisation in Linux being at a level that most users don't want or need. Each company has their operating system designed in the way that they feel is best. Microsoft already allows for quite a lot of customisation, Apple on the other hand probably never will.

Don't know what you mean about Apple becoming like Bill Gates, he's actually a pretty decent guy. Could you elaborate?

gates is the second richest man on the planet. Money and power corrupt. He's not a pretty decent guy. Guaranteed.

So basically you're judging his morality or "goodness" because he has a big bank account

If that's the case you might as well castigate Jobs as well.

Since I never met the man, I don't know if he's a decent man or not.

Please do some research before you make some general comment.

Yeah.... Hav e you ever tried to get a grant from his foundation? Have you ever discovered what the requirements are once you get a grant from his foundation? Have you ever noticed how the grant process to his foundation works?

I guess not. I have. Its not pretty. Its designed to help the causes that fit his profile and help his own goals.

Jobs is only worth 6.1 billion. A piker as these things go. But Jobs is not a dude to be trifled with. Upper management Apple employees understand this. Lower sales apple employees even with 100's of millions of dollars in sales for Apple are discouraged from trying to talk to the man. He does things on a whim and that whim may not be very nice for you personally.

I know a number of people who became rich, and who are rich---very very rich. Do you know anyone like that? To a person, they are vindictive, demanding, and expecting to get what ever they want. Having lots of money corrupts morality. This doesn't mean that you can't have a corrupted morality and be poor, but the liklihood of being extremely moral and karing and being very very wealthy is small. Of course the wealthy multi-national corporations are doing their best to convince the populace that they have only us serfs good interest at heart. Yeah, right!! I have a moon of Jupiter to sell you too.

Almost all of this info is contradictory to what is true. And since when is microsoft the baseline for ratings of companies who don't care about their customers?

There's a palpable smell of stale garbage coming from your post.

Plus, I can talk to Jobs whenever I want, I've got his personal email address.

This is what I fear

I don't have problem with the iPhone and iPad I do have a problem if Apple and Microsoft think this is the future for desktops or laptop computers. It is too awkward to use a touch screen interface for playing games alot, graphics, animation , video editing , multimedia and spending alot time using the computer or using Microsoft Office.

You are a customer. Customers know nothing about innovation or shaping the future. Just like when you grew up being told, this is what a computer is, go buy it, future generations will do the same. Same with everything else you buy. You assume that one HAS TO manage files, has to have a desktop to get some job done. The thing is, no, you won't.

Same was with the iPhone...critics (aka oldfarts) raged against the lack of a stylus and physical keyboard. "Fingers? FAIL!"...and look around you now.

People have and will always resist change, even if it is for the better. This thread is proof.

It is simple if Lion 3 looks and feels like the iPad I'm getting Linux no question asked I'm getting Linux and Apple and MS can go in trash where they belong .I will not have company tell me how I should dress ,look ,buy or use a mouse, trackpand or how things should look or what ever.

Every person has there own likes and dislikes of how OS should look and feel .How dare you company MS or Apple force me to your agenda.

I hated MS gone the mac way only because it had the features I want and OS look and feel I want.I'm very picky of how OS looks and feels very picky .

OS X is still golden standard if that going to change okay:eek: I'm going to have big party becuse I will get Linux and do it the way I want .

Both MS and Apple are in it for making money not personalization of computer or OS.

The white macbook pro was discontinued in favor of the Macbook Air, which has a $999 price point. This is targeted at College kids who want to carry something small and fast with them. Especially with the SSD built in.

You can still snag white macbooks from retailers (online, or in person) but the Macbook Air is gonna be the entry level mobile mac now.
