Just wait until Chris Hansen of Dateline invites you for an interview and grills you with questions like "Why didn't you return it, blah, blah?" Dateline left it there to make some news
Or tired. Or just had a bad day.
I left an $8000 body and lens at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago. The waiter and manager went out of their way to get it back to me with nothing but my credit card receipt to go from. It's called giving a guy a break after a long day.
We all make mistakes, happens to the best of us. Sure it's not the OP's fault. But this mistake can be made right.
wow, that took me like 20 mins to read. periods? commas? no?

WOW!! I would like to think if I was shooting with something THAT nice I wouldnt make that mistake. I agree we all make mistakes but some are definitely ones that invole things that shouldnt be over looked.
Besides, what were you doing with your camera out at a restaurant?![]()
wow! thats crazy.. I do agree.. keeping up with your kids will cause you to forget a lot of things! On vacation, it was about the fourth consecutive day of getting up early and going from one thing to another, you know how vacations are. That's why you need a vacation when you come back.
I was dead tired. I put the camera on the bench on my wife's side of the table. I thought she had it; she thought I had it. It happens. Especially with 3 kids and all their stuff and shopping bags and everything else.
But let me tell you, after that experience, I will put maximum effort into returning anything I find from now on. Those guys in that restaurant saved us from a terrible end to our vacation.
Most people wouldn't try as hard as the OP did to return the phone...
Obviously putting it in the lost and found would just mean someone would take it. The apple store wouldn't do anything. What do you expect him to do? Spend the day trying to find the careless owner? When you buy a $400 device, you really should keep an eye on it, anyway. Enjoy the iPhone. Just remember...if your sister were to lose her iPhone, you think someone would return it to her? Most likely, and rather unfortunately, no.
I then called the 5th Avenue store and they told me no one had called in about it, and they have no policy set in place for lost iPhone's and looking up the serial numbers to try and contact the person.
i totally agree with not bragging about something like this, it just feels dirty.
I mean, c'mon, the OP tried to contact one Apple store, then didn't follow the suggestion of the employee of the metro- he wouldn't put it in the box for someone else to take, but he felt it was ok to keep it or himself? Twisted logic to me. And please, the guy is not 'noble' just b/c he is giving the thing to his sister.
So do what u wish with the phone of course, but remember, someone out there is probably devastated about losing it, just as we all would be.
For some reason, it just seems wrong that you are telling all of this about this. I think this is one of those noble deeds I would keep to myself. I also think that it is wrong for you to be putting someone else down for making such a costly mistake. Shame on you!

So why aren't they getting in touch with the owner
Personally I don't think you have tried that hard, how would you feel if you left it behind on the train? For all you know the person was rushing somewhere and turned around and remembered their iphone and there goes the train.
#2- You've guaranteed the owner will get their phone back because if you refused to give it back for some reason a quick call to the police for a report (lost/stolen is the same report) and apple to verify the serial numbers and you'd be charged with possession of stolen property. So I'm pretty sure you'd extend your charity that you initially began today looking for the owner.
The manager informed me there was no policy setup for this scenario and I could bring it in, but he would figure out what to do when we got there.
Yes. To the OP, are you in Manhattan often? Just take it to the store and ask to speak to a manager. I'm sure they can contact the buyer and issue a credit if necessary. Or simply get the phone to him or her.
If you're a little persistent, you should be able to get them to do this.
Come on, the vast majority of these phones are paid by cc. And the stores always ask for your email address. Worst case, they could issue a credit to the cc.
Haha, possession of stolen property?
I assume you think if I stumble upon a washed up dead body on the beach while walking my dog, I am guilty of murder as well?
This thread was made to explain an experience I went through today, and now has become a source of comedy in reading posts such as your own. Thanks!![]()
Then why not get his name and mail it back to him at his attention. Or stop by next time you are in the area. Is that really that hard?
