I keep getting error (1) when using this method. Has anyone experienced this?

Nope. People normally get that when they option-click restore before they force the iPod in to DFU mode.

Arg. Now I just get error 1604 every time I try to restore on my PowerBook, using this method or not. It will restore fine on my iMac, but when I plug it into my PowerBook, it doesn't show up in iTunes unless it's in restore mode.

I wish I had never attempted the 1.1.3 jailbreak.

Plug into computer
Hold down power and home
Wait for it to disconnect from iTunes
Let go of power but, keep holding home
Wait for it to come back into iTunes
Hold down the "option" key and click "Restore"
Locate the 1.1.1 firmware on your hard drive
Wait for your iPod to restore.

That's all I can do to help you. I don't know why you're getting an error but, it worked perfectly for me.

Thanks for your help TheSpaz, I figured it out.

I had iTunes 7.6 and 7.5 installed in order to try to jailbreak 1.1.2. I used AppZapper to remove both, which removed all of the plist files and whatnot. I then re-downloaded iTunes 7.6 from apple.com and it restored fine using your method.

Thanks again.

That's good to hear. You're welcome. By the way, it's not "my" method but, I had to search for a while to find it. Now it's popping up everywhere but, when I originally tried to find, the internet was flooded with the iPhuc method. I'm glad it worked... that's what these forums are for right?

Now if we could figure out a way to go back to 1.1.2 from 1.1.1 after installing 1.1.3 and reverting back to 1.1.1. That's a lot of .'s.

OK after several hours of playing about with this, this is where I'm at.

I had a jailbreaked 1.1.2 iPod touch. Then as soon as the jailbreak for 1.1.3 (/iphone-1-1-3-jailbreak-now-for-mac/)got leaked I jumped straight on it (Now it turns out that it wasn't ready for the iPod, only the iPhone). After finishing up. I didn't have any of my 3rd party app icons on my springboard or wiggly icons etc etc. So I thought the update hadn't fully worked and decided to restore back to 1.1.1 and ultimately back to 1.1.2.

But...... After successfully getting back 1.1.1 and jailbreaking it. Turns out that after running "jailbreak.jar" in the attempt to get back to 1.1.2. My iPod touch displays the "connect to iTunes" on the screen and iTunes launches. The iPod is then stuck and refuses to do anything other than want to be connected to iTunes. iTunes then displays a warning saying that the iPod must be restored.

I can stay on a jailbreaked 1.1.1. But If anyone has any ideas what's going on with getting back to a JB 1.1.2 - please let me know!!

Thanks :p

Using Jailbreak.jar you have to click on 'Boot From Recovery' once you're done Jailbreaking
IIRC that is ;)

I tried that too! It said 'sent command' then something like 'waiting for reboot' and just sat there.

How did you get rid of these error?

I keep getting error (1) when using this method. Has anyone experienced this?

I keep getting the same error (error (1)) each time i try to restore! I have removed iTunes.app with AppZapper and downloaded a fresh copie of iTunes from Apple.com and no luck so far! Perhaps the .ipsw might be the prob?

Thanks!

The error (1) is due to the iPod not being in the proper restore mode.

Follow TheSpaz's (borrowed) instructions exactly as stated. The key is the first step, plugging the iPod in, holding down the home and power buttons until it disappears from the list, and at that second, let go of the power (top) button.

I had to try it a couple times.

WOW! thank you SO much for posting this. ive been looking around and trying different methods for the past 5 hours and this seemed to be the one that would have the least chance of success, but it's actually been the only one that has worked for me. once again, thanks so much. you've saved about another 24 hours of my life by sharing this info.

1. Connect your iPod touch and let it show up in iTunes and finish syncing and make sure you've logged into the home screen.

2. Hold down POWER and HOME until the iPod disappears from the source list.

3. When the iPod disappears from the source list, you can let go of the POWER button but, KEEP holding the HOME button until the iPod pops back into the list in recovery mode.

4. Then you can go about your normal downgrade routine by holding down the OPTION key while clicking the "Restore" button and choose the 1.1.1 firmware. (Edit: for PC Users, hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Restore)

I followed you instructions, however when I got to the iPod disappearing off the list and then having to hold down the home button (but not the power button) it just doesn't work. The home button isn't providing any powering it up, is it?

When I did it I had to hold the Home and Sleep/Wake until it powered off and you saw the Apple logo appear and then hold the Home only.
Give that a shot

Ok i get it now, as soon as the iPod disappears form the list let go of the power botton. You should not wait for the itunes/dock cable graphic.

Works perfectly! Thanks!

I was already jailbroke in 1.1.1, then upgraded to 1.3, but it was screwy so restored 1.3 on itines....it became locked again.

Been trying to get back to 1,1,1 for hours now and this method worked.
