Hey Guys.

can anyone help me in restoring my ipod touch to 1.1.1?

I posted this before: i downloaded the file 1.1.1 version but when my itunes completes the extraction the recovery mode..its gives an error after that its just stops the installation..so any solution for that please?

I know there are some geniuses in this forum..PLEASE HELP.

So, um, with this you can downgrade your iPhone, sell it on eBay for a TON of money, then re-buy the iPhone, and keep the leftover money as pure profit?

That was with 1.1.2, the one with 1.1.3 is slightly different, well, in other peoples experiences anyway

It is different... why don't people read and do it step by step instead of skipping ahead and saying "IT DIDNT WORK!" or that it's the same as the previous downgrades... geeze... have some faith and follow instructions exactly and you'll be fine.

Was that aimed at me? Or just a rant?
When I downgraded 1.1.3 it was just the same as downgrading 1.1.2 and the method I used both times was similar to yours

Short rant about some people on this forum... not you. You're very cool. Nice guide by the way.

Lemme point out that previously, you could hold down home and sleep and let go of sleep... then the Connect to iTunes icon would show up... then people would plug it into their computer after that.... that method does not work in 1.1.3. Also, I've heard of people who couldn't do it only to find out that they held the buttons too long and it didn't work... so it's very specific to these set of instructions... that's all.

Ahh OK
Yeah, both times I did it (it's actually about 6 now...) it was connected to iTunes at the time so I saw no difference

Error 1

I would like to say that if you keep getting an Error 1 keep trying. I get an Error 1 every time and eventually it worked. Even if your ipod is in recovery mode you can still do the holding-down-button method without restoring 1.1.3. Thanks for posting this method. As much as I think 1.1.3 is a great update, I need my 3rd party apps.

It's currently downgrading right now. I plan on trying the install.app update to 1.1.3. I'll let people know if it works. If it does then all you would have to do to jailbreak 1.1.3 is jailbreak 1.1.1 then run the 1.1.3 app.

yo spaz, my ipod is stuck in recovery mode and it wont restore my ipod. i think i need to use iphuc but idk how to on a mac and i would rather not do it on my pc. idk why it is doing this. please help me.

Try plugging it into your Mac and run iNdependence for about 30 seconds and it should come out of recovery mode.

Check this out. To downgrade 1.1.3 to 1.1.1, it's very easy on the Mac and works PERFECTLY. This worked for me and first I tried the iphuc downgrade method and it SUCKED and I couldn't get it to work. However, this way worked and I didn't have to even type one single command.

First off, lemme just say I'm running 1.1.3 on my iPod with the software update pack and iTunes 7.6 when I did this.

1. Connect your iPod touch and let it show up in iTunes and finish syncing and make sure you've logged into the home screen.

2. Hold down POWER and HOME until the iPod disappears from the source list.

3. When the iPod disappears from the source list, you can let go of the POWER button but, KEEP holding the HOME button until the iPod pops back into the list in recovery mode.

4. Then you can go about your normal downgrade routine by holding down the OPTION key while clicking the "Restore" button and choose the 1.1.1 firmware. (Edit: for PC Users, hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Restore)

As I said earlier, no need for iPhuc and this was done using 1.1.3 and iTunes 7.6. I can't believe how hard this information was to find.

By the way, this is NOT the normal restore way as it was in previous downgrades... that's when you get the unknown errors.

I hope this works for all of you Mac users out there. It sure worked for me after many failed attempts at the so called "iphuc" method.

Hi.

I've followed your method faithfully, but I still end up getting "An unknown error occured (1)". It simply won't downgrade to 1.1.1. And I've tried at least 6 times already.

I'm on iTunes 7.5 (I never upgraded it to 7.6), and currently on 1.1.3 (using Arix's method of updating it).

I had my iPod plugged into the comp the entire process. Still no help.

Can you help me? What am I doing wrong?

I don't know what you're doing wrong. Are you sure you're clicking "Restore" and not "Update"? Also, go ahead and download iTunes 7.6, there's nothing wrong with it, I don't know why you're so afraid of it.

Hey, thanks for replying ! yup, I'm clicking Restore. Not Update. Still won't downgrade.

All right, I'll download iTunes 7.6, and try it with that and hope it works.

i've downloaded the file 1.1.1 and that's it. But it automatically changes into a file after it's done downloading. There is no .zip title anywhere. there is no file

Have you found a way around this yet? I'm having the same problem...plus I'm new to the world of mac so I'm probabl missing something very basic here... i can't figure out how to stop the mac from automatically unzipping the file.

Edit - Never mind - i think i found the option to disable that... i'm re-downloading the file now...lets see hw this goes...

You got it.
Lemme guess, you were downloading it with Safari

Yes, he was... Safari automatically unzips files so you have to download it with the "Open Safe Files" open turned off in Safari Preferences.

I don't think I have right 1.1.1 software

I do the instructions and I think it is working. I found someones link to download the 1.1.1. (it has an .ipsw extension)
I get to the point that I need to selecte the 1.1.1 software & it starts the recover, but I get the error: The iPod “iPod” could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1)

How do I know if this is the right software I should be selecting? Is there another link I can use?

Sorry If you have said this some where but can't find it but I miss my APPs.

PS: I am runnning on Windows XP
