excellent so now in a few years when you want to sell it and get a new one no one is going to give you a penny for it, nice going

looks kinda cool though, my buddy is thinking about having his HP engraved like that, HPs dont hold their value like macs do though

Each to their own! Dude. I think, since he/she has paid good money for the machine, they're entitled to do what they like to it... even if it means branding it with his/her name - why not?

Personally I'd like to have my logo etched or the a hello kitty & ayu logo, on to the lid and the wrist-rest, both in the same size and style. However, right now i'm run down with too much work.. and my system is going in for a spot of service soon.

Oh... I know!
Perhaps I'll try it on the loan system first!
You know, just to see do i like the effects...
Well i hate to spoil my own. :D

To the people who think i plan on selling my MBP in the future, I am NOT selling it ever. Its that easy, im not selling it even if it dies, hdd fails i'll replace it but whatever happens im not selling it. But you can have your own opinion on it, but i did pay good money for my MBP and i am entitled to do whatever i want to it. :D

Heres my drawing at 98%

Yes it is backwards, i'm at school and don't have a camera to use. But it will run from the bottom left to the upper right.

Gotta do some touch ups, but if i get it done soon, im going to bring it to the place i got it etched at so i can get it done.

Are these people posting about the resale value not reading the entire thread? Seriously... he states within the first page he doesn't want to sell it...

That's some pretty sweet laser etching. I've been wanting to do that, but like the other person mentioned, I wouldn't be able to decide on the design. It took me forever to finally take the plunge on my tattoo, and then it took me even longer to design one I liked... I'd probably go with a Chinese-styled dragon coiled or flying around the :apple: logo with some clouds to fill in spaces...

Thank you, and to all the others who said the same.

I got lucky and found the only trophy place in town and they happen to have a epilog laser etcher and thats the brand a lot of the more expensive companys use. Took me forever to figure out what i want, and i was even more lucky for only paying $15 but i figure my new design will cost more but hopefully not much more.

hear that flushing sound? that's your re-sale value.

I don't think he really cares about his re-sale value...

I think he did it because he thinks it looks good(so do i). If more people were like him the world wouldn't be a completely monotonous place filled with conformists.

More power to ya man!

Keep me updated those blocks look really cool!

A tattoo is different though. That stays with you your entire life.

A MacBook Pro doesn't.

But the etching does look nice. Can't wait to see the whole thing done.

True enough, but it stays on the MBP for it's life. And considering I just picked mine up in March, I'm hoping to get at least a few more years' use out of it. It's not exactly the same, but I'm picky enough about my MBP that I wouldn't want a bad etching to ruin the appearance... but that's just me.

Just on a side note, anybody know of any places in Calgary, AB that would do that? I'm too lazy to research haha

Very unique idea. To everyone complaining about resale value, even if he did decide to resell it, which he already stated he won't, its not that hard to change the display lid? I bought a perfect condition lid off eBay to replace my dented one for around $50?

can you laser etch the black plastic on the macbook?

Indeed! This was one of my favourites:

It works quite well on iPhones too:

To the OP, your block pattern is looking really good, I can't wait to see it on you MacBook Pro.

Dude think of your re-sale value!

Just kidding every apple laptop I've had has died after about 2 years since my PowerBook g3. So I wouldn't care about re-sale either.

But what I do care is... Anyone know of a place in London, England who can do this. I have a few things I'd like on my MacBook, but never thought you could do it to the plastic.

i think a cool, optical illusion type design centered around the apple logo would look cool, and wouldnt hurt the resale value much, as long as it isnt my name or anytning

Holy crap. Searching on flickr for this returns TONS of really sweet things people have done on their laptops. This one is by far my favorite so far

Ooooh... Me likey!

I can't imagine something like this would hurt resale value. If anything, I'd say it would boost it! So long as it's not personalized, I'd think there'd be ppl that would love to buy one of these off of eBay...

I finished my drawing and im going to the place tomorrow during my lunch and i should get it back by lunch time friday.

I'm really excited and ill post pics when i get it back.

why so many negatives? If you want to sell just get the top clamshell from ebay. Done.

Nice engraving!

I'm interested to see what your latest drawing will look like engraved.
