Woohoo got my iphone 4S today! Just syncing it - so excited!! I had a 3GS before - and tips that I should know?

Awesome. Wouldn't it be neat if everyone who bought one would join MR and start a thread about it?

But seeing that the iPhone has sold millions, I think many people don't need it. They just go out and buy it blindly.

It seems to be just a "want" rather than a "need" for many iPhone buyers.

AppleFan...I don't see the point of your replies in this thread. It's been established that the iPhone 4s isn't for you because you don't want to pay the monthly fee. We get it, already! So, instead of hijacking this thread about someone who's excited to have received their new 4s, why don't you start a new thread about wireless carrier's excessive charges. These monthly charges have nothing to do with Apple and apply to all smartphones, not just the 4s. Truth be told, if ever there was a time to lock-in to a wireless data plan, it would be now. Data charges won't get any cheaper in the future.

I understand that the monthly fee goes for all smartphones.

And if data charges get more expensive in the future, that's just nuts!

I'm using Comcast triple play because I like it. Nothing replaces turning on your TV and watching live channels.

Yea; I think the reason for my hesitation about cable is that I'm a college student, so I don't really have a good time to sit down and watch and relax. Because of this, I just download or watch what I can, when I can, and work around the schools schedule.

I do hate commercials with a passion though; and there are so many now. It's getting a bit ridiculous.

Yeah and to top it off, most of the stuff on TV is trash.

Rape is "unwanted"

As far as I know, the cheapest plan for an iPhone is $55 a month, but I was told that the actual price may be even more expensive (all the way up to $80 when you get your bill).

I'm currently on a family plan where 4 lines are using non-smartphones for less than the monthly price of one iPhone.

To me, that's rape.

I don't know of any masked phone carriers grabbing people and forcibly making them sign a cell phone contract with an iPhone so your story just doesn't make sense. People want and choose to sign up for an iPhone contract.

I have to say I'm pretty interested in the 4S, but I just can't let myself pay that amount per month for something I probably won't even enjoy to the fullest (I can wait to check emails at home, and I can wait to go on the internet until I get home). I don't need internet on the go, although I would want it. My budget allows me to have this phone, but I don't feel comfortable spending that much per month. It seems that they charge you a premium price for anytime anywhere connectivity that I would enjoy, just not enough to cough up that much.

It's a great convenience, but I don't know if it's worth it for someone like me to be paying through their nose for it.

Hello, white iPod Touch!

You're practically living in the dark ages. You still "check email?" Internet at home? The horror...

Wow what lovely replies!!

I'm loving the 4S and no I probably don't NEED one but I wanted it, and seeing as I work full time and save my money I don't see the harm in treating myself!

Yes it's the 64GB black version - got it from ebay for same price as in store - well £1 more! So cancelled my online order which hadn't changed status in over a week!

Yea... And I also use cable television... If you use cable television you're clearly being raped too because you could be just using bunny ears instead.

Advice:

1. Don't DROP IT without the new AppleCare!
2. 6GB or unlimited data per month with tethering, its a must!
3. Re-read and follow #1 above!
4. Get Visine for those eyes as you'll loose a LOT of hydration after tearing about how wondering Retina Display is - the competition is JUST in the works of catching up!

Enjoy.:apple:

Yeah? What do the "with it" people do? Not check emails? Not get internet at home?

I'm in the computer networking field, so I guess I'm more comfortable with traditional land-line stuff like VOiP/internet at home.

It seems to me by your comment that you don't subscribe to cable TV, internet at home, you don't have a phone land line, etc. And what is this about not checking emails? Everyone I know "checks their emails", mainly when they're at home...

I'm saying most people these days don't wait to "check" email at home, or browse the internet solely from home. Email is instantaneous on the iPhone, and you can browse the internet, whenever, wherever.

Chill your grits, gurl.

Oh, I thought you meant people don't even check their emails. What you meant was that many people have instant access at all times to it.

Chill your grits, gurl.

 If my previous post gave off any attitude, sorry, cause I didn't mean it!

With typing you can't really express yourself the way you would in person. Typed words may have a different impact than was intended.

Sounds like you should stay where you are then.
But doesn't mean you have to piss on someone else's parade.

I don't mean to piss on anyone's parade, I'm the first one who would feel great to have an iPhone. If only I didn't feel it was a complete ripoff!

----------

Don't act like a dick Because you can't afford it. This guy is truly happy about his iPhone 4S, and you come along talking about him getting analy raped.

Now you're being graphic. :(

And I would kill for a 4S. And I'm happy for anyone who enjoys the 4S.

I think this is the point where I should stop talking. Or else I'll get rocks thrown at me.
