I’ve kept a case my 12 and have had no drops and yet this nick still happened at some point. Anyone else?

And yes, I regularly take the case off to clean debris.

Metal scratches as well. I think the goal should be not getting so obsessed about a mobile phone. If that tiny, tiny scratch ruins your use of the phone, you have much bigger problems. Use the phone and stop obsessing.

The same could be said for a lot of the posts throughout MacRumors. I for one am living my upgrade from my regular 11 to 12 Pro Max. Love the extra screen real estate and battery life

Who’s obsessed? I’m just wondering if other people have experienced this because I haven’t on my last few phones.

Oh no!! That case was the first case that i bought for my 12 PM! Fortunately, i found it bulky and switched to something else. Actually, i always thought that case was pretty damn good......until now! I am just not clear how that case could have done that...it has rubber “airbags” with soft ridges inside...can those damage your aluminum???? Wow.

Sorry for the issue...damn.

The stories that I see on this forum about dirt etc. trapping inside 3rd party cases scratching phones has made me use only Apple cases.

I have both the Apple leather and Apple clear case. I prefer the clear case despite the weird a$$ back magsafe design because it is so darn clear and makes my Pacific Blue shine. Yes, i am superficial.

I also have a silicone Apple case so maybe I’ll use that more? I’m just a little annoyed because there was no actual event that I feel could’ve caused it. It almost looks like a knife was taken to it ha

I’m assuming your Pro won’t have the same issue since it’s steel.

Thought about that clear case but I couldn’t stand that design ha

Yes, people have experienced this.

There was one member who was preparing to sell their iPhone. It had been in a case from day one and he took it out to get it ready only to find that the sides and back of the phone had taken on a mottled rust like appearance. Can't seem to find that thread though.

If I didn't already NOT use cases this would be one of the reasons I would not use them.

I take my phone out of my case regularly to clean it - I never leave it on for the duration of its life without ever taking it off. Grime and dust and such gets between the holes and the sides, so I always take it out once a week and clean it and it goes back in. Never had any issues of cases scratching up my phones, etc by doing this within the past 8 years of owning smartphones.

Never saw that thread, but if he never took the case off once during ownership, that's on him. You gotta clean things off every now and then, if not just from a hygiene perspective. Dirt, dust, moisture, etc are going to find their way inside your case. If you get something hard in their like sand, yea it may scratch, but it's not the end of the world and a mark that small isn't really going to affect resale value.

That’s exactly what I was doing when I noticed it.

Did you notice anything inside the case that might have scratched It? I always make sure to clean the inside of the case as well because little tiny debris are notorious for scratching phones. I’m sorry it happened to you - trust me, it would bug me too and it sucks that it happened

May I ask a question that I may get hated for?

I honestly don't mean to be disrespectful or anything I really don't but seriously, is a tiny spec like the one shown in the pic really that important?

It is better if there was no scratch, no?

And the fact that this may have been caused by the case is double ouch!

Nothing aside from the usual dust... whatever it was, it was enough to cut into the frame rather than just the paint. Maybe a piece of rock got in there?

What do people do with their cars? Keep them in the garage and never use them? I mean, it's a phone, you use it, it gets old, it gets dirty, it scratches. It's not a multi million dollar collector's item.

I’d expect dings to happen over time ... not so much in the first week.

OK I hear that. I once purchased a car and got a scratch on the side in the second week of ownership. Bummer, but oh well, I lived with it. It didn't really bother me much.

As a kid I used to take new shoes out in the yard and intentionally get them all dirty and scuffed.
I'm a photographer. Some photographers I know when buying a new camera, will intentionally scratch it up and make it look well used (little less likely to be stolen in that condition).

Who said I’m not living with it though? Ha I’m keeping the phone.

I don’t see a problem with being a little annoyed.

No, I understand. And again I don't mean to offend anyone but I just happen to notice an awful lot of petty things that a lot of people in this forum talk about. When I saw your pic I just thought that if that happened to mine, I really wouldn't even have cared, not one bit.
But again, I'm the one who used to intentionally scuff up my new shoes as a kid LOL
