I suspected as much and once I read this i became convinced that I was right. Just ordered one, will see how it goes and report back.

So did i, WRONG, sent it back, there will be much nicer leather and better smart cases in time.

I bought one from Amazon for about $20 incl taxes and shipping. I was a little concerned what I would get but it turned out great. No way was I going to pay over $90. It was go nude or find something reasonably priced.

Probably fake.

Love my Air Smartcase in Product Red. Precise fit, very light and not bulky, love the feel of the leather. A little overpriced, but still exactly what I wanted in a case.

I'm really happy with mine - yes, I have the gap, but I hadn't even noticed it until I read this thread. To me it feels really high quality, provides just the right amount of protection and provides a really stable stand for the iPad.

I totally agree. I also noticed the gap, but to me it doesn't have to be an air-tight seal. It does it's job protecting the screen. The feel of the leather is luxurious.

I owned the iPad 4 for a short time last year. I got the Polyurethane Smart Case. The case fit poorly with too much wiggle room. It also felt very cheap. Not so with the new iPad Air leather Smart Case. The iPad snaps in with a snug secure fit. The leather is not cheap feeling at all — quite the opposite. It feels like the interior of an expensive car.

My iPad Air smart case is just fine. The fit and finish is just right. It lays on the screen fine. You guys are a bunch of nits! You may now return to your quilting circle and continue your bitch session. ;)

Really don't know what's the big deal if it's a little lifted up.

Yes, same here. Everything else about it is great, so a minor thing like that perhaps deserve a mentioning, but no more than that.

What get me are those atrocious looking cases I have seen which make the iPad look like an old fashion portfolio, or one that is made out of rubbery, TPU, silicon, fake leather that add plenty of bulk and compensate for the improper fit with stitches and thicker leather.

But we all have different tastes.

I loathed the smart case for the previous generation but found myself really liking the new case. It fits better, imho, and I love the feel of it. I was worried getting it but am surprised how much I like it.

Same

My thoughts as well ^.

I have bought multiple cases and spent way more than the price of the Smart case. I stayed away from the Smart case due to the mixed reviews and also as I prefer the one fold cover style as opposed to the two fold. So after weeks of futzing around, I finally decided to try the Smart case and am so glad I did. It is just made well and feels good. I also have the Product Red and love the color. I could see that it might attract grime and stains rather quickly so I sprayed it with leather protectant.

I've got the red smart case as well. It is amazing. I was hesitant at first to buy it due to its price and mixed reviews but I have to say it is amazing. The leather has a great feeling and it doesn't add a lot of bulk to the ipad, for me it makes it better to hold. It is easy to fold and doesn't fall for me, it is pretty solid. I couldn't have invested my money in a better product.

Are you doing anything to protect it, like stain protector or leather conditioner?

Good idea...The case looks so nice in that red color they chose, I'd like it to stay looking good for a while...I think I'll spray mine as well (I have some leather protectant around here somewhere that I use for my expensive leather watch straps). Thanks for the heads up! :)

If possible you'll want to use the fluoropolymer type rather than the silicone spray. The acrylic polymer sprays are great as they don't darken the leather. Silicone sprays sometimes do.

After several cheaper alternatives I broke down and gave the smart case a chance.
Is it over priced by $40 bucks? Yeah- it is.
But IMO- it's by far the best of the bunch.

slightly off topic:
The fact of the matter is the iPad- under normal use- is essentially a flawed device. Yes it will function without a case, but as Apple likes to tell us- the iPad is intended to be portable and carrying a delicate device around subjects it to possible damage.
Apple seems well aware of this as well thus they offer and promote the smart case.

IMO- they should just charge an extra $25 per iPad and included the case.

I agree, but others may not. I really find the naked iPad uncomfortable: cold aluminum, sharp edges.

Some people argue that why buy a light iPad Air and put on a case? Well, the same reason that one buys a light sports car with a padded seat.

However I don't think Apple should include the case because it would affect other case makers to a good degree.

Think you will find all cars have padded seats these days, unless you drive a old tractor:rolleyes:

I hope you were trying to be funny and not took what I wrote literally.

My point is that I understand why Apple make the iPad out of aluminum with a thin and sharp profile: it's sleek and modern.

But cool as it is, I am human and I have senses, and like most human I suspect when the newness of it wears off, I prefer holding a warmer softer tablet.

If the idea of an aluminum steering wheel doesn't appeal to you, why would a naked iPad be any different?
