When the snow was falling on Saturday, it was pretty and I enjoyed getting out with the camera. On Sunday, it was clean-up day, everybody getting the stuff off their cars, and yesterday was more of the same. I had fun gazing at icicles slowly dripping and trying to capture the moment with my camera. Today was dreary and the snow is not pretty any more, going out is a real hassle when dealing with slushy roads, both behind the wheel and in parking lots. I've had enough, I'm ready for this all to go away. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has other plans and even as I am typing it's snowing. Again. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I think I see the faint outline of a car buried somewhere under all that snow! OUCH! :)

Oh good God, this snow is killing me...But I'm loving it because of no school :p

I can't go anywhere, as my dad is usually at work, same with my brother. My mom...too scared to drive in the snow. Since school's been cancelled since last Friday, I've been at home, with nothing but my trusty Xbox 360.

Hopefully Fairfax County will cancel school on Thursday and Friday too :D

Young people tolerate cold winters better than old. Thus, Arizona and Florida are retiree destinations. However, there aren't many regions with year round perfection. There's always a few bad months or some natural disaster to deal with.

i can pretty much guarantee it will be cancelled thurs and fri... and the bad news, they are going to add 30 mins to every school day for the rest of the year...

I love the snow! The only bad part is when you loose power for close to 3 days and start to see your breath in your own house. But other than that it's great.

But this winter has just been crazy. I'm in North Bethesda here and I can say this is the most snow I've ever seen at one time.

Should have lived in Loudoun County. They had announced the whole week off earlier yesterday after this mention of more snow coming. Originally, we were supposed to get 10-20, now it's at 7-14 and as I look outside there are only 3 or 4 inches so far. I think the County freaked out a little too much. You lucky kids, I didn't get out of school for more than a day at a time other than the blizzard of 96'.

I don't really hate snow; but, I hate road salt and sands to help melt snow on the road. I know it is a necessity to drop those dirty materials on the road to make it passable for motorists. But, they are one of the major enemies to cars as they nick paint and accelerate corrosion. Back in New York, sanitation trucks drop sands (look like small rocks to me) and salt which bounce off the road and hit your car damaging the paint. Now I am not there, I can keep my Skyline in a pristine condition while using it as a daily driver. I know I could not do this if I stayed in New York.

I love the snow even though I see very, very little of it in Australia...
Travelling to the snow to stay a week and ski/snowboard is very expensive. (It only snows in a few locations away from most of civilisation).

I could do with some snow right now...as I sit in this hot, sweaty room on a humid evening.

the difference is that we dont have an infrastructure capable of handling this amount of snow...

Yes, I know. I guess that's overly optimistic "planning" on the part of local governments. It's a choice: put up with closing down the city so you aren't paying for the equipment that would get you going when it's not needed.

However, that line of reasoning doesn't apply to individuals. It takes the same amount of effort to clear your driveway/sidewalk with the same shovel you have to have for the light dusting whether you live in the snow belt or the sun belt.

what good is shoveling your driveway going to do if the street you live on is not plowed?

I feel for you people on the east coast of USA, getting hammered.

Here in SE Michigan we missed most of the snow and winter has been kinda lame, until last night when we got our 8"-9" of snow.

Kids have snow day, 1st one of 2009-2010 school year.

It doesn't help that Loudoun County has 7 available snow days before they have to start making it up, and Fairfax only has 3.... Hence why Loudoun is always the first one to announce the closing of multiple days..and Fairfax waits until 4 am the next day. :p.

No word of FCPS closing Thursday or Friday yet..

I hate snow. That is all.

Me too.

One of the reasons that I moved to Los Angeles was to get away from the snow. I haven't seen snow in almost 2 years...... I do not miss it.

For the next few days, this is what I'm in for. Is it mean for me to post this?:D:D:

Oh yeah, it's just such a horrible place to live.

The weather, the beach, the hills, the restaurants, the parks, the shopping, the entertainment...... what a hell-hole.
Beaches aren't exclusive to LA and the parks are a joke. Everything else is a product of the empty shallow people and the sprawl culture they've created around greed and envy.. Every time I visit the LA area I can't wait to get home and hope I can scrub the disgust off. The best thing LA has going for it is that at least it isn't oklahoma.

Um, unless a heat wave is coming, you're going to have to do it anyway. And, if the snow is going to be around after the plow hits your street, you're gonna have to get out, unless you're not in school and are independently wealthy.

Plus, I regularly leave and re-enter my neighborhood before the plows have gotten to the residential streets. And I'm talking anywhere from 1 inch to about 8 inches or so. And no, I do not have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Yeah, but you also get drought, earthquakes, fires, and mudslides. :)

Hmm...I think I would still take my chances with those vs. snow.

I've only experienced a slight tremor. But I've experienced that in Toronto as well.

The other stuff does not affect me. No fires, mudslides, or drought in Westwood. I see it on the news, and it might as well be in another city.

That's ridiculous. Stereotype much?

You mean there are beaches in other parts of the world?

I'm not a shallow person nor are any of the people I've become friends with here.

I enjoy the beaches and parks here- the hiking trails around the city are nice.

It is difficult for you to judge a place that you have only visited. The LA that you are talking about doesn't exist in my world. The people I interact with on a daily basis in West LA are down to earth, kind, and friendly.

But that's okay. You don't have to like it here. I do.
