I don't give a s-hit what happens to my M2 MBA. I bought it as a travel device, just like my iPad, so it's expected to break at some point. It's why I also added AppleCare+ to it.
Damn. I am really interested in the 16" M1 Max MBP with 64GB of RAM from Apple Refurbished for 2899...amazing price for a beast of a machine. I am not looking at the M2 Max becuase it gets hotter (and i am sick of hot computers) and is much more expensive for less RAM (IMO RAM is what affects performance more in this case than the little gpu/cpu boost). Cant wait to get one...

It’s a great machine. I also have a 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro but with 32GB RAM.

Is that your second one or the one you were talking about in your post i replied to?

The 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro is my main machine and I used the M1 12.9 iPad Pro as my travel device. And I added the M2 MacBook Air later to act as a travel device too (due to limitations of the iPad).

The post referred to the M2 MacBook Air, I really don't care what happens to this laptop :p

Oh, ok
Apparently you like Apple stuff:) I can understand, because the seamlessness and build quality is just second to none.

I'm jelly man. My M1 Air is cheaper and I've had it longer than you've had your M2 Air so I wish I didn't give a **** about it. I'm going to get there though. I've realized these devices are extremely tough (as long as you don't drop them to the floor).

Is it very fast?

Blisteringly. I use it mainly for FCPX, and my iPad Pro for everything else.
I baby the M1 Max so much that I don’t even touch the keyboard! I hate it when the keys start going glossy! Plus I like to leave it further back on my desk and then use a Magic Keybaord with Touch ID, and the Magic Mouse with it - find the setup much more comfortable to use while sitting on my desk.
The laptop never leaves the desk though. I use my iPad as my portable machine.

I know its very fast, but i want to know what you mean by "blisteringly" fast, since everybody has different ways of interpreting a fast computer, if you know what i mean. I ask this becuase i am going to use it to edit 4k 120fps video from a Canon R5 camera and occasionally 8K 30FPS for cropping in wildlife videography in Davinci Resolve/Final Cut Pro X. I will mainly be editing high resolution (30-61mp in size) photos in Lightroom/Capture One/Affinity Photo, etc. and of course simple things like web browsing, etc...and i want to get an idea of how much lag there will be any lag or stuttering while doing these things (i.e. FCPX editing 4k 120). Its important to me

I guess its pretty fast since Marques Brownlee uses a M1 Max MBP with 64gb of RAM (what i am going to get:p) as his laptop and daily driver and refuses to upgrade to M2 Max (understandably), and he edits 8K RAW video, so it must be fine lol

Yup and of course last night, I was walking out with my MacBook in my bag, and the zipper was open and it slipped out onto the ground... Screen is fine, a small nick on the side of it and knocked my hinge slightly off centre. Not happy.
Parents take more care of their second baby.🤱

Share the pics man
Kindly forgive me for the late reply. Here's the pics.

1. This is the dent I've got. I think it's when a motorbike bumped into my backpack with my MBA in it. It's on the left of the rounded corners. Very unnoticeable.

2. Here's the scraped corner when my phone bumped into my MBA. Again, you can barely see it.

And here's my phone case when it "kissed" my MBA.

I know exactly what you mean. I almost spend more wiping finger oil off the keys than I do typing.

I baby my devices right until they get their first scratch or blemish... then I stop caring as much about cosmetic wear and tear. I try to keep them pristine for as long as I can though.

I try to remind myself that any cosmetic damage is just a testament to the fact I USE the device.

In all seriousness, the way I stopped this was therapy and medication. It was anxiety. When I got the anxiety under control, I stopped worrying about stuff like this.

Without judgment, I'll say that I think a lot of people who are obsessed with their devices would really benefit from asking themselves if they need help.

That's a good thing, though. It'll be very valuable one day when you're upgrading, and want to sell this one.

You’re not going to get a definitive answer to your particular use case. You’ll have to try it yourself to see as everyone’s expectation, and result, is different.
All I can say is it’s obviously way overkill for basic browsing - so no issues there - but I use mine with FCPX for projects that are generally 4k30 or 60. I do not use proxy media - just raw files from my cameras (mix of action camera footage as well as DSLR) and have never had any issues whatsoever. Rendering and exporting is seamless, and fast, and I have yet to ever hear the fan spin up at all.
If it makes any difference, all my project data is stored on external SSD connected via ThunderBolt only (either OWC ThunderBlade drives, or Glyth Atom Pro drives)

What about heat? Does it literally melt just browsing and sound like a jet engine like my intel mac does? I hope not...

Both M1 and M2 MBAs stay super cool to the touch even under some decently heavy loads and they’re fanless. I know from personal experience. I think the MBPs with an actual cooling system will handle some browsing. You must not have been paying attention to the M series chips on how the performance to heat and power consumption have been talked about. It’s been one of the biggest positive talking points across the board.

I baby my idevices because of resale value. A nick can cost about 100-200 bucks, a dent costs about 200-500 bucks. Depending on how many idevices you have and how often you upgrade, this can add up pretty quickly. I perceive babying my idevices as part of financing the upgrade cycles by keeping the resale values as high as possible and therefore the upgrade costs as low as possible. If I would heavily dent my MBP14 I wouldn't think "dang, I dented my Macbook", I would think "dang, there goes this years iPhone upgrade."

Am I the only one?
