My issue lately has been with the new metal framed buildings, like the new Publix down the street... Full service outside and 0-2 bars inside. This is an issue at like 10 other locations I go to around town.

I'm just hoping that the T-Mobile thing goes through and we get their extra frequency in the next model for the building penetration. The screwed up part is how I used to have these issues on T-Mo before switching to AT&T.

I don't understand why people actually argue about AT&T vs Verizon.
I guess some people don't understand the fact that some carriers absolutely do not work in some locations.

I've had both, verizon is clearly the beat for cOverage. Matter of fact, it's not even close. Everyone knows that.

In the end, we all get screwed over by the greedy corporate providers that over charge us for their services anyway. No one wins

Apparently, the "Can you hear me now" man never made it to my neighborhood. I've been a Verizon customer since Verizon took over AirTouch, and it coverage hasn't improved in our area. A matter of fact, the employees and customer service how bad it is here because the let us out of our phone contract with no penalty... but I am still a customer for data. Verizon has great customer service.

Verizon = SLOW DATA speeds
Verizon = Less coverage overall
Verizon no DATA/Voice at the same time

So you are downgrading.

Like always, it depends on where he is at. Obviously AT&T stinks where he is. And saying you will always have a signal w/ AT&T dont meana thing if it is only 1 or 2 bars and you drop calls all the time. There are areas here in Vegas(not the strip) where you only get 1 bar and the service w/ AT&T sucks. You shouldnt need a microcell to have service.

I dont like either company myself and i like T-Mobile here so i hope the buyout dont go thru.

If the new Publix is your problem , T-Mobile is not going to help you. What would help you is some ATT on 850Mhz. When I had ATT, I has the same situation you have at my new Publix. That's because ATT here is on 1900Mhz. Then I switched (back) to Verizon and now I have full bars in the Publix store. Why ? Verizon is on 850Mhz and the cell site is across the street from the store.

Saved me an explanation!;)

AT&T is the best because it is what I have. :D

On a serious note, AT&T has better coverage in my area (city) but Verizon has better coverage in the immediate rural areas. That seems to be the consensus.

I just switched to Verizon two days ago and so far, I'm loving it. Better reception overall, haven't had a single dropped call or slow 3G speeds. I hated AT&T, never going back. Always had dropped calls with them and spotty 3G reception. I live in the Bay Area if it matters.

I posted this in another thread but it works here too.

I switched from an unlimited plan on AT&T to an unlimited 4G LTE plan on Verizon. I really wanted to lock in an unlimited 4G plan before they went away for good on July 7th so I sucked it up and switched from my iPhone 4 to a HTC Thunderbolt thinking I'd go back to the iPhone whenever a 4G model came out. After having this phone for a few days I've fallen in love with the 4.3" screen and everything Android has to offer. I really don't think I'll ever switch back to an iPhone, and this is coming from a huge Apple fanboy. I'm getting 4G speeds of about 21 Mbps which is amazingly fast, I can't even describe how fast web pages load.

The only things I miss from the iPhone are the Retina display (but the 4.3" screen almost makes up for it) and battery life. At first I was getting terrible battery life but I downloaded a 4G on/off app and now it does fine, I just turn on 4G whenever I'm downloading something then turn it off when I'm done. Android does pretty much everything else better.

I ordered it online from Walmart.com for $129 (I think it's $200 at the Verizon store) with free next day shipping and used their trade in program to get $322 from my old iPhone 4.

Amen to that! I am torn between getting the Thunderbolt or iPhone 4.

If you're dropping calls on AT&T try turning off 3G. The EDGE network is fully sufficient and most dropped calls originate from the AT&T network switching from EDGE to 3G.

There's a jailbreak tweak that disables 3G for calls because of this issue. Or switch to Verizon if you've got your heart set. AT&T is amazing where I live but once you get outside the urban scapes it's ridiculous.

It is funny how there is a need to turn off the 3G while making a call when At&t advertises their network can do both at the same time. (You are not the only person that suggest this to me; 2 At&t sales rep said to turn off 3G to improve reception which is ridiculous. I am paying for 3G service for god sake! why would i want to turn it off.. Haha.)

Well I just made the switch and I am damn happy. With Verizon I actually can make and receive calls or text message. With AT&T I had crappy Edge service or "No Service". It is, after all, a phone and if you cant make calls thenit sucks.

I get coverage with Verizon that i never got with AT&T.

I wanted to wait for the iPhone 5 but couldn't live with ATT any longer. I got the iPhone 4 and I am happy.

All those things that you mention above are meaningless.

So true! :)

I switched to verizon from att a couple weeks ago and haven't looked back since. Best decision I ever made. The speed difference isn't really that noticeable in my opinion.

Yup, it doesn't matter how fast technically At&t is; if you can't get a reception to connect through At&t 3G, it is meaningless.

AT&T is the best because it is what I have. :D

That's not true in my case, I live in a BIG city and still get bad At&t coverage.

So true! same thing here in Texas!

Obviously it depends where you live as to which service will provide better service. Arguing otherwise just makes you look retarded. Hope the OP gets better service from VZW. End of Thread.

Got the AT&T iPhone 4 launch day. Moved to Orange County (Mission Viejo) soon after and my AT&T sucks. Im able to upgrade right now but I will be canceling my contract the month the 5 is announced and on Verizon.

At my house my AT&T 4 gets 1 bar. My friends Verizon 4 gets 5.

Im in socal as well AndrewR and I'm now seriously considering switching myself. I was worried about data speeds being slower but Verizon seems to have faster ping times than Att to even things out a bit on web browsing speed.

I also like how Verizon has 5x more 3G coverage across the U.S. So if I travel I won't be stuck w/ Att's Edge speeds of 0.1 mbps.

I also like how the Verizon iPhone has longer 3G browsing and wifi browsing battery life (according to annadtech's review)

What I don't like is wether the Verizons data speeds are enough for Netflix streaming. I also dislike how Verizon has to activate your phone always so you can't just slip your sim card into a new phone like you can Att. Who knows if in the future they say "oh you want to upgrade? well we won't activate your new phone unless you change your plan from unlimited to tiered". Seems much easier to keep unlimited data on Att since as long as you have an active sim card your good whereas Verizon locks down their network like nobody's business...

Agreed, those are some cons. But I don't watch Netflix on my phone (maybe with a 4 inch screen..kidding) And the no sim is fine with me. I just want my phone to work in my house haha.

Verizon = less coverage overall? There's a Map for that. Verizon is more dependable in more areas.

How about a Palm pixi for 50 bucks and keep unlimited? I mean.. you would save 450 bucks. Thats a lot of money...

nuff said, you can clearly see the better carrier.

I went to Best Buy today; they didn't have the Palm Pixi in stock. And every time I ask whether I would able to retain the Verizon Unlimited Data Plan without a contract after July 7th, the Best Buy rep and Verizon sales rep both said you must have 2 years contract in order to retain the unlimited data plan since the Palm Pixi is considered to be a "Pre-paid" phone.

I am choosing the iPhone 4 now. Why? Here is the reason.

So I looked into the new Best Buy Buyback Program which guarantees that they will buy my iPhone 4 for $350 (which is 50% of retail price at date of purchase) within the first 6 months period after signup if I were to upgrade to iPhone 5 in September. But the thing is, I will need to buy the iPhone 5 for full retail price $650)

Ya, I think this will work out. Any comment?

God at least use a map thats not so old to support your fanboy stance;)

That map doesn't differentiate between 2g/Edge and 3g so in alot of the places where you have 1.5mbps download speed with Verizon 3g you would only get Att's Edge speeds of 0.1mbps...

Even though your map is in blue color, it doesn't necessary represent At&t. There is no At&t label to your map? :D

Besides, I live in Texas, and I don't think At&t coverage maps are accurate. I only get like 2 to 3 bars.
