Is that "Unproductive" on the bottom row of that watch on the left? lol. Mine would be showing that all the time.

I haven't seen an Ultra either. I've been on an Hermes one for almost 2 years and never seen another one either. I am glad though, it would be boring if everyone was wearing the same thing.

I still haven’t seen another Ultra in the wild. Granted, I got the watch as a fun toy for the happy brain chemicals, I am not the active target audience for the watch so I’m never really in a place that would attract a typical Ultra user (that is to say, I’m fat and lazy, and the biggest use my watch sees is casual swimming with my kids; otherwise it’s my timepiece and an extension of my phone).

Was just watching Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC, and I think this lawyer is wearing an Ultra.

Outside of the Apple Store, of course. I have not seen a single person sport the Ultra, even at the gym or at mass gatherings like the mall. I thought that the Ultra was popular? That seems kind of odd.
I've seen so far two people wearing Ultras, one at a pool and one on a hike. The regular Apple Watch is not really "popular" in Switzerland but you do see people wearing them now and again. The Ultra is super rare.

One of the reasons, I imagine, is that the Ultra is very big and I guess it just doesn't work for a lot of people. It's also quite expensive.

Plus, in Europe iPhones are much rarer compared to the US, and Apple watches don't work with Androids.

Garmin is a popular choice for a smartwatch, followed by Samsung Watch/Fossil Android Wear watches.

While it is true that iPhone market share is below Android in most european countries, Switzerland is not one of them. Hence I have a very hard time believing that Apple Watch is not popular there. Here in Germany where iPhone market share is approx. 30% I see tons of Apple Watches all the time.

Count on this forum to produce someone to contradict the mildest personal take!

It depends what you mean by “popular”. I don’t have access to hard data so I can only rely on personal experience, which tells me only a small minority of people wear Apple Watches. The iPhone, clearly, is popular. I don’t know if what you listed is true, my smell test says <50% but not too far from that point.

It was just that some of your reasoning didn‘t make sense. Stating that iPhones are „rare“ in Europe, and especially in Switzerland, is not a „personal take“ but simply wrong. And with an iPhone market share at or above 50%, it also doesn‘t make sense that the Android watches you mentioned should be more popular than the Apple Watch. Maybe your circle of friends is leaning more towards Android, but you made a more sweeping generalization for all of Switzerland (and even Eurooe).

Android is the dominant platform for Europe though, you’re more likely to see an android phone being used than an iPhone even if Europe accounts for a third of Apples sales. It also has over double the population of the US so this goes some way to explaining why the preference here is much wider. iPhones are pretty popular in the UK, not so much newer models but in my circles I’d say most people use them. The Apple Watch is popular but that doesn’t mean most iPhone users have one. Most of my friends are into running and other sports so it’s more Garmin than Apple.

I didn't state what you wrote, so I'm not sure what to reply. I said, if you go back, that iPhones are rarer (a comparative, different from rare) in Europe (not Switzerland) compared to the US, and I stand by that, according to all available data.

It's not possible to have a conversation with a person who misquotes you and replies to some straw man, it's like talking to a wall.

Argue all you want but the gist of your post was that Apple Watches are rare in Europe because you personally don‘t see a lot of them. You also made it sound like Android watches are more popular than Apple Watch in Switzerland particularly. All of this is anecdotal BS because Apple Watch is the clear market leader world wide and for sure in affluent Europe.

Android is clearly the dominant platform, and the more Eastern Europe you go, the more of a rarity the iPhone becomes. Since Apple doesn’t release, to my knowledge, much or any data regarding iPhone sales, activations, devices in use, there’s plenty of speculation and made up data to go around. I’m personally surprised hearing “a third”, Europe wide I would think it’s less.

In any case, in my opinion it’s fair to say that the Ultra was a flop, at least in Europe. Shame really, it’s by far the nicest and most capable Apple Watch. I don’t have one because I’m with Garmin, but if I even remotely considered an Apple Watch, the Ultra would be the only one.

I’m not a fan of her Ultra myself, it wears too big on me and not fussed on its design. Feature-wise it’s the most capable Apple Watch. It’s quite a bit more expensive in Europe compared to the US and maybe this has effected the reception somewhat? Most people I run with or am aware of seem to use Garmin. I’m the only one on my Strava group with an Apple Watch funnily enough.

So my last Apple Watch was the stainless steel one. I like the weight and the feel of it and since I don't really wear any other jewelry, I don't mind maying the price. Right now I have the Series 6 Apple Watch which still works fine and looks terrific. Were I to upgrade, I am sure that I would spend at least $799 for a watch but I have no need for the Ultra, my current watch already captures my activity well enough and though I would look at the Ultra, I would likely get SS again.
