Ignoring the obvious price jump that eliminates a lot of buyers, I think many people are put off by how the Ultra looks in most pictures. For some reason it always seems to look gigantic in every picture, when it reality, it looks normal in real life. That's the reason two of my co-workers who normally have the latest Apple gadgets gave. After trying mine on, both have since bought Ultras.Maybe see one a week or so in London. Wondering if people genuinely prefer the smaller form factor of the more subtle AW 5/6/7/8 etc?
You need to consider that the number of regular Series Watches you see accumulated over a number of years while all Ultras are brand new. Many people keep their Watches for at least 3-4 years, so it‘ll naturally be a while until the Ultra is as ubiquitous as the regular Watch.
I think the pictures are a large part of it. The pictures make it look extremely chonky, and the garish orange coloring really pops, not helping the look. In most pictures it looks like a clown watch. Whereas in real life, the only one I've seen appeared far more refined than the pictures and the orange didn't stand out so much.Ignoring the obvious price jump that eliminates a lot of buyers, I think many people are put off by how the Ultra looks in most pictures. I don't recall seeing one besides mine. I do hang out with an older crowd, so that could be part of it.
Probably all Apple staff, doesn’t count. They get them for free.I see them everywhere in the Bay Area.
If you could spot the S8 (would need a more than trained eye) they would be rare too when compared to the entire pool of Apple Watches on everyone’s wristSaw my first one this weekend, so they do exist but they are quite rare.
Thank you for your input.I don't look to see what others wear, mostly because I don't really care.
I wouldn't be giving social advice to anyone if I'm counting "Ultra" sightings.Saw another ultra on a hiker on the same trail I was on. This is my 3rd or 4th Ultra encounter.
The OP needs to get out more.

I'm a petite Asian woman, and the Ultra looked okay on me when I tried it. I ultimately got the S8, but the Ultra was surprisingly wearable even for smaller people like me.I saw one yesterday for the first time here in Tokyo. A petite Japanese lady was using it to pay for something at the store and I noticed it as she was ringing her stuff up. Although, I specifically remember thinking that it didn't look too big on her. I wonder if it was actually just one of those Ultra cases, but on a 40/41mm watch. 🤔
While to me it seemed not as big as I thought it would be, I think a round watch would be better for the size,
