A friend a work has one and after oogling over it for a couple of weeks, I ended up with one. Very unusual as I'm normally 3 years between watches.. upgraded from a Series 7, previous to that, a series 4.

Maybe see one a week or so in London. Wondering if people genuinely prefer the smaller form factor of the more subtle AW 5/6/7/8 etc?
Ignoring the obvious price jump that eliminates a lot of buyers, I think many people are put off by how the Ultra looks in most pictures. For some reason it always seems to look gigantic in every picture, when it reality, it looks normal in real life. That's the reason two of my co-workers who normally have the latest Apple gadgets gave. After trying mine on, both have since bought Ultras.

You need to consider that the number of regular Series Watches you see accumulated over a number of years while all Ultras are brand new. Many people keep their Watches for at least 3-4 years, so it‘ll naturally be a while until the Ultra is as ubiquitous as the regular Watch.

It’s also a big watch and not to everybody’s taste so naturally will appeal to a select market whereas the standard AW is plain, and has less of a tool watch aesthetic. You’re right though it’s the first year it’s been on sale and there is a cost of living crisis so it’s going to be a rarer sight.

I think the pictures are a large part of it. The pictures make it look extremely chonky, and the garish orange coloring really pops, not helping the look. In most pictures it looks like a clown watch. Whereas in real life, the only one I've seen appeared far more refined than the pictures and the orange didn't stand out so much.

Also the fact it’s a smartwatch and priced at 849 quid. There’s plenty of options cheaper out there and that’s something pro Apple enthusiasts probably won’t relate to on here.

I don't recall seeing one besides mine. I do hang out with an older crowd, so that could be part of it.

I would have thought it would be more of an "older crowd" thing. I could see my Dad getting it. He's pretty active for an old dude but has an old Series 3 or something.

I have only ever seen one IRL and that was a demo in a store. Not as huge as I expected. The standout visual difference to other models surprisingly was the flat screen. I like it, but got no use for it.

I saw one yesterday for the first time here in Tokyo. A petite Japanese lady was using it to pay for something at the store and I noticed it as she was ringing her stuff up. Although, I specifically remember thinking that it didn't look too big on her. I wonder if it was actually just one of those Ultra cases, but on a 40/41mm watch. 🤔

I'm a petite Asian woman, and the Ultra looked okay on me when I tried it. I ultimately got the S8, but the Ultra was surprisingly wearable even for smaller people like me.

Funny enough I went to the Apple store and saw one for the first time, then later that day a work friend I hadn’t seen for a while had one on.
While to me it seemed not as big as I thought it would be, I think a round watch would be better for the size, also I would prefer the screen to stretch to the edge if I was to take the size/weight penalty over the regular AW.

I know a few people who have the Ultra but only tend to wear it when they need to rather than it being an all-day device like the standard AW.

Are you sure?
