So a poster shares his subjective impressions of rMini vs the Air (presumably what a forum like this is made for), and he's treated to posters calling him delusional, telling him he's talking nonsense, and psychoanalyzing him, speculating he must be desperately trying to justify his purchase. This place is absurd.

I don't understand all of this. If anything the ipad retina and ipad air suffer extreme color inconsistencies. Blue looks purple. My ipad 2 and original ipad mini were spot on color wise but my ipad 3 and ipad air look terribly purple where its supposed to be blue. My new ipad mini retina shows the correct colors. Have people gotten so used to the incorrect colors of the retina ipad that they are expecting it to be incorrect now on the retina mini? I too favor the natural correct colors of the mini retina over the ipad air. Seems to me the gamut on the air is defective.

I don't think 99.9% of people value color accuracy over almost any other aspect of the iPad screen. We at MR are the .01% that nitpick things like this. For many people, the size and portability are more important. Nobody that owns a rMini will argue that the screen is better, we will just say that we don't find that to be as important as the portability.

It's not color accuracy, it's color gamut.

One display is closer to a black and white display than the other. Is that easier for you to understand?

It's not acceptable for Apple to be putting out a product for 2013-2014 to have 63% of sRGB. It looks like crap.

Yea come on... I have no problem with my miniR screen but I'm not gonna delude myself into thinking it's better than an iPad 4 or Air. It's not, and that can be shown quantitatively, not a matter of opinion.

I think this is the new trend for rMini owners.

1. Make new thread in denial of their inferior displays so they can sleep at night.

2. Use endless smoke and mirror tricks to try and convince any nay-sayers that their screens are perfect while disregarding all scientific evidence.

3. Sleep like babies... ZzZz

These threads are pointless. Apple should just let everyone adjust their colors how they want it. Yes it won't change the gamut issue (frankly it's not an issue as big as some made it. It's nothing more than a processor war type of a thing for displays). Those that want it saturated should be allowed to adjust their colors to look as such. Those that want it duller should have that too. Maybe in the pro...,

As opposed to folks like you who have to be a wet blanket so others can't enjoy a device they are happy with.

Ipad mini is better in every aspect. More pixels, better size, and the colors are more accurate. Unless your really in love with magenta, hot pink, and pastels.

All I can say is I have had an iPad 3, first mini, air (returned it) and now rMini. I had no issue with the color on my 3, first mini and rMini. I did have an issue with the color and tint on the air. I'm very happy with the new Mini!

I'm not preventing them from enjoying their device; they can enjoy it without making a new thread every 5 minutes praising it and trash talking the Air just to try and validate their purchase. Insecure much?

I have a Mini 1 so I don't have a dog in this race, but its far more insecure to feel like you need to defend an inanimate object you own as if it reflects poorly on you.

Oh boy.... Is it possible that there is one person in the world who prefers the colors on the rMini's screen? Is it that impossible to conceive of such a possibility?

My wife and I bought a large screen TV. A couple of years ago, and fiddled with its color settings until we found it to our liking. Colors are something I work with, and must balance in order to please either a particular client, or for potential sales in general. That is me I the article below. ;)

Reds are displayed as red/burnt-orange, greens have a bit of yellow in them and blues are very pale. This is indeed a color accuracy issue due to a reduced gamut.

If you like the display, that's great, but let's not make stuff up. The iPad Air's screen is not toy-like or over-saturated like some of those awful OLED displays out there. The colors on the iPad Air are stunning and vibrant.

I am hopeful that one day we'll get the amazing portability and of the Mini along with the vibrant displays found in its bigger brother, but in a smaller size. Perhaps this will finally happen with the next release (next year).

The Mini's display is only better in pixel density, it still has deficient color reproduction. Apple only did it to make more money and people don't care.

We do, they're iPhone 5/5S/5Cs. Apple chose not to spend the extra $5 to give the Retina Mini that same quality display.

Does anyone out there think Apple is some charity non-profit organization existing for some reason other than generating profit for their investors?

Just because they position themselves as "premium" and don't slog it out in the mudpits of commodity hardware doesn't mean they're any less profit driven than any other company.

It looks like crap.

says the people in forums ... there are literally thousands of people who disagree with you.

one man's crap is another man's treasure ... or something like that.

----------

100% sRGB is considered ideal, with truest to life colours.

You're entitled to your opinion, but to call 110% "over saturated" is certainly not the consensus by any stretch of the imagination.

so if 100% is truest ... then 110% is way over that number. some people think that is "over" saturated.

Well it's not very scientific but here is a shot of what I see. The ipad mini retina is on top and the ipad air on bottom. The ipad mini retina is an exact match although it does look washed out in the photo, perhaps the angle but you can see what the air does to the color, it blows it out over vibrant.
