The fact that they maintained battery life and bumped the power this much is quite impressive.

To be completely fair and give credit where credit is due = You can mostly thank Intel for that, as that was their main focus with the new CPU that's in these systems.

I love the new Pros, the lack of an SD card slot is bugging me for what I do and also they should have put another TB3 port on the left side to make it symmetrical (although I guess that would require another controller). I'm so pleased with the graphics, and can't wait for more benchmarks to be done.

I can't wait to get my new laptop :). Coming from a late 2008 to a late 2016 is going to be amazing. Going with top 15" with upgraded CPU and GPU plus 1tb hard drive.

I personally was waiting for Thunderbolt 3/USB C and here it is. I'm going to get me a usb c to classic and a sd card reader and will be set:)

Hoping to see some eGPUs soon and noticed that shipping times on new order are being push back.

the top dGPU's actually look to be pretty decent for gaming, so im not too worried about eGPU's. But yea they would be nice in the future.

It's less the cost I hate about dongles. It's the fact that it is one more thing that I have to take with my laptop at all times. So, let's say I have to go to a meeting and I only take my laptop, and all of the sudden, BOOM I forgot my USB 3 adapter for someone's flash drive, I forgot my DVI adapter for putting up the PowerPoint... you get the idea.

I know this is probably the only way to force the industry to upgrade the ancient and inferior ports on everything, but not having a single legacy port on there is extremely frustrating. A USB and an HDMI port would have been great. I'll take that over a thinner laptop.

Based on Engadget's hands-on, it looks insanely thin. Visibly thinner, even through a tiny phone screen, and definitely makes the previous gen bulkier.

If you're concerned about RAM, as soon as the RAM chip packages double in capacity, such an option will be available from Apple. Most likely next year.

The fact that they maintained battery life and bumped the power is because they used CPUs and GPUs that were much more power efficient (and they came from other companies!) ;)
[doublepost=1477617328][/doublepost]BUT, that new screen is very tempting, and a real achievement. Apple should become the primary manufacturer of monitors! It's more profitable than making cars.

I am planning on keeping a USB-C/3 adapter on my keychain -- they're small enough and I always have my keys with me. But yeah, the HDMI can be a hassle...

It's ok, but honestly it could be thinner. After four years I was hoping for more than a 20% reduction on the 15 inch. My #1 request for the next macbook pro is at least another 15% reduction in bulk. Don't get me wrong- I'm definitely gonna pre-order the 2016 mbp, but I feel like they could have pushed the envelope a little more. As much as I like the touch bar, I can't help but think it limited their ability to go yet thinner. Not sure if it's worth the trade off, but I'll reserve judgement till I see it in person.

i ordered a 15" with 460 graphics. i think I'll like it for the most part.

Touch bar should increase my productivity a ton, love the fact it's fully customizable.
I've Been waiting for a laptop with good speakers
I like that it uses USB-c for charging on either side, very convenient. Also finding a replacement cable once it frays out at 13 months will be easy since USBC cables are everywhere.

I don't like that the hinge isn't as strong as before, and I don't like the lack of USB A ports, but that's it.
Price isn't a major concern for me luckily.

I hope boot camp works with the touch bar at least to where I have my function keys. I think it should because the bar is a low level hardware thing. It should have its own Microcontroller and communicate as a keyboard when booted into windows.

Yes sure, they are the best. The only problem I see is the design decision about the ports. I'm pretty sure they could have fit a legacy (at this point) USB port in there, but they do what they do. Dongles suck.

I appreciate the effort, but just saying "I want to create a happy space" is catnip to trolls and everybody else that can't stand that someone else might be content when they're so miserable.

I think the new MBPs are a solid update. People seem to be caught in the mindset that they need to update their machines more often than they do. I don't mind paying a bit more because I tend to keep the same hardware longer. The solid mechanical build (and lack of real advancements from Intel), make that a lot easier to do.

So I won't be buying this generation simply because I'm still happy and getting good use out of my 2013. When I'm ready to update though, I look forward to the improvements in the display, the touch bar looks quite nice, and the improved portability will be welcome.

Wow, that's really smart. I'm gonna do that. You need to start a Kickstarter right now!

It was a tough call for me. Before the event, I was set on buying a 13" MBP as long as it met my requirements. It was literally everything I was expecting, from the Iris 550 to the 4 USB C ports. The only thing I wasn't expecting (along with everyone else) was the price. However I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I think the price is actually justifiable.

Look at the competition, a similarly specced Surface Book is about $100 more. And that's about the only comparable with similar performance and build quality to the MBP.

And then look at what Apple's included in the package (even if it's not of value to you specifically).
- FOUR TB 3 ports, which is huge and I'm still not sure how they managed to do that with the limited PCI-E lanes available
- OLED touch bar, which has a significant cost associated with it
- Insanely slim design, including an entirely new (2 fan, never seen before in a 13" MBP) cooling system.
- 3 GB/s SSD, 50% faster than last year

Some of this stuff may not be of value to everyone, and honestly, I could have done without some of it myself. So while folks may not find enough value to justify the price, the entire package definitely shows why the price is set where it is.

I think it's a really solid upgrade, but the lack of 32 GB of RAM would give me pause, considering 16 GB has been available for 4+ years now. Is there some chip limitation where 32 GB simply isn't supported? I don't think so, but not sure. Yes, Apple has always been stingy with RAM, but I would've expected at least an option for 32 GB, even if paying out the nose for it.

In other news, I'm sad to see the glowing Apple logo ride off into the sunset.

I'm personally really excited! People's negativity brought me down for a bit there, but honestly, I haven't had a decent laptop...in my entire life, I don't think, so I'm really looking forward to this. (Currently operating off a chromebook with a dead monitor attached to a TV, because my other option is a 2012 5400 rpm base MBP that's so slow it's infuriating. Yeah.)

No matter what I got, it was gonna be a huge upgrade. I'm obviously hugely privileged to have had the cash in hand, but I'm not gonna feel guilty about that, that's ridiculous. And after looking at comparable options, none of them are really all that much cheaper without some drawback or another.

So I'm definitely more than ready for this baby to arrive at my door

And, by the way, @aevan, you seem like a really classy guy! Thanks for making this thread haha.

Bro you'd probably be happy with a loaded 2013 rMBP then

I'm going from a 5 year old HP with an AMD A10 chip with 5400 RPM drive and 6 GB of RAM, I got you beat. Literally this MBP could be a dumpster fire and be better than what I currently have.

It should be though going from a $600 laptop to a $2600 laptop, only 4 times more expensive.

Placed my order as soon as the store went up. Looks like a nice improvement over my current machine, which has also been awesome.

If it was $1500 for the top end model, there would still be whiners. If it had every port imaginable, floppy, Blu-Ray and yet had the same dimensions (somehow), would be complaints.

I'll receive mine and then tune out of MacRumors for another year or so.

I liked new Macs and going to buy my first Mac. Only thing is I may need to delay...have to save some bucks. Was not ready for this much high end price.

I hope everyone else does hate the new MBP - maybe mine will arrive quicker if nobody else orders one ;)

Apparently there are a lot of people who love the new MacBook Pro. I cancelled my first order today because I decided I wanted Space Gray instead of Silver and my shipping slipped from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 weeks. Some of the 13" models are already at 4-5 weeks. I think there are a lot of us that love the new MacBook that just aren't on the forum or responding here. I'm very excited about getting mine and hate the wait.

Wow, you people just sound like a bunch of Apple fan boys, no offence. I definitely get the sentiment, you will definitely love the new MBPs, not because they are all that incredible but because well its the new shiny thing Apple released for an insane rip off price.

When someone says something offensive, it is up to the other party to decide whether or not to take offense.

I wouldn't say "privileged". The timing just worked out well for you, that's all.

I have the cash for either a new MacBook Pro or a new Surface Book. Hell, I have enough for both, specced out. They just are not worth that much to me.

Leaning towards a Windows system now (on which I would put Linux, if I decide to take the plunge.)

What the Apple and Microsoft pricing moves makes me wonder, is if there will be a ripple effect to the other notebook manufacturers out there. "Hey, if they can get away with it, why can't we?" I'd sure as hell hate to see what is a $500 notebook now, be sold for $1000 in a couple months. That would suck, big time.
