I love apple laptops. But to me, Apple raising the price of this new laptop by 500$ is just insane. It is actually making me consider the XPS 15 or just waiting for a couple more years (enough to squeeze out my old 15in mbp 2010, maxed out the ram and switch to SSD a couple of years back or for apple to realist their retarded pricing).

I believe that as years go buy, technology prices should decrease, and not increase. Macbook prices usually fluctuate amongst a certain range, but this price hike falls on the extreme end. Yes its faster, and with plenty of new features, redesign or whatsoever. I just feel that this change doesnt exactly account with their price hike.

This is just insulting, nothing more. Not worth any further reply.
Nice thread, aevan! I also like the new MBP very much. (although the logo on the back of the display should still glow ;) ).
I think just for fun we should count, how many posters on this forum buy spec figures and how many buy user experience.
I'd take UX over specs any day, but the prevailing mentality seems to be to get most numbers on paper in return for your buck you earned through blood, tears and sweat.

Bro you'd probably be happy with a loaded 2013 rMBP then

Haha this chick actually ordered the space grey, 15in, Radeon Pro 460. I've always wanted to get more into video editing and graphics work, plus I like art, so that extra screen estate is nice. My school of six years had some nice iMacs with Photoshop, but now I'm in college, alas. My last laptop was free (from that same school, actually!), so I couldn't complain haha.

(I'm all about that gender-neutral bro though, bro.)

I'm going from a 5 year old HP with an AMD A10 chip with 5400 RPM drive and 6 GB of RAM, I got you beat. Literally this MBP could be a dumpster fire and be better than what I currently have.

It should be though going from a $600 laptop to a $2600 laptop, only 4 times more expensive.

Damn, you're right. Good job enduring the wait! (*´ω`*)

I wouldn't say "privileged". The timing just worked out well for you, that's all.

I have the cash for either a new MacBook Pro or a new Surface Book. Hell, I have enough for both, specced out. They just are not worth that much to me.

Leaning towards a Windows system now (on which I would put Linux, if I decide to take the plunge.)

What the Apple and Microsoft pricing moves makes me wonder, is if there will be a ripple effect to the other notebook manufacturers out there. "Hey, if they can get away with it, why can't we?" I'd sure as hell hate to see what is a $500 notebook now, be sold for $1000 in a couple months. That would suck, big time.

Haha more like I have a bombass mom who I'm forever grateful for, but tomato tomahto ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly I totally get your perspective, this was just the best laptop for me that suited my needs and desires. I mean, obviously there were pros and cons, but I'm already invested in the Apple ecosystem, and I've had a pretty enjoyable user experience so far. Here's hoping it continues.

I agree that the laptops are egregiously priced - I simply can't afford to wait. If I had a functional laptop at the moment, hell no would I even be considering it. Nice eye candy, sure, but lmao. I do believe in investing in the best item for me at the beginning of a predicted long use period, though, so.

I'm planning on using the products I currently own for the next 4, hopefully 5 or so years besides a probable phone update. I'll reevaluate the market options then - but for now, I'm gonna get my MacBook Pro and I'm gonna be super hype for it ٩( ᐛ )و

I think your experience, and for most others, is that the price issue will fade pretty quickly once you start enjoying the great productivity and wonderful ease of use.

Disruptive Apple. That's what they do. For the good and the bad. It makes people talk. I don't mind the design and simplicity of getting things uniformed. Think about all the cables. Yeah it'll take some time to transition, but why not. Buy some adapters and in the mean time.

But the prices are a bit higher than I expected. I would need to go test them out for myself.

Can someone please do me a favor? I'm deployed and can't get the apple website to load. I'm looking at getting the base 15" and upgrading the GPU to the 460. Can someone tell me what that price is in USD? Thank you so much for the help!

How will the 15" battery life be with the dGPU, will 10 hours be accurate when web browsing/watching videos and editing documents. Then what do we predict the battery to be with dGPU on?

$2599

Note: $2399 base and + $200 for 460 upgrade

It depends on how hard you push it. When gaming, probably under 2 hours. If at all.

I dont really now what to do, I already sold my old MacBook Pro to my brother and now I am thinking about not getting a new Mac at all because the only real option for me would be the 1799 variant which is just too expensive...

Also why Skylake?

You can also try to use education pricing and consider a discover card matching. You usually get 5% (10% through matching) through their portal. I just deposited 2k in my bank account from discover a few days ago from getting a discover card last year with the Apple pay promotion.

There's always the grocery (kroger in my area) fuel points gift cards thing. Use an amex card to get 6% off. Wait for 4x fuel points. Buy apple gift cards.

My plan, before yesterday's announcement, was to buy the new 13" model loaded.

Thought I would spend only $2,200 by the time I was done. That is with a 1TB drive.

Of course, prices were higher than expected when the announcement was finally made.

I ended up going with a loaded 15" MBP for $3,200 (GVT pricing). Fully loaded sans hard drive which is only 1TB.

I spent the extra $1k because I fell in love with this laptop.

I think the touch bar is genius! Nothing else out there matches what Apple has done here outside of touch screen laptops that exist on Windows computers.

I wanted the most powerful desktop replacement I could find. I do more work on my laptop than I do on my 4k iMac.

Yeah, I could probably get a more powerful laptop if I went with a Windows model.

However, I hate Windows. I hate Microsoft. I left that platform almost two decades ago and never looked back.

I am not happy that Apple raises their prices like this. However, let's face it, those who buy into their ecosystem are rewarded with quality products that last much longer than most hardware running windows.

I, for one, am very happy with this new MBPro. So much so, I ended up spending $1k more than I expected.

That's the one I would've ordered if I was interested. I'd still rather take a wait and see approach though. Hope it works out for you.

Cardfan,

Which one were you looking at? The 13" loaded or the 15" loaded with 1TB drive?

I went for the 13" over the 15" because I do like having a smaller footprint laptop, but am wondering about an external monitor. I've just sold a 27" Apple display and normally use my laptop in clamshell mode, so I'm wondering what's the best option?

The new LG looks nice - do the USB-C ports on that mean I just have a single cable to the laptop and thats me charging and connected like the Apple connectors on their displays?

Although to use clamshell mode and still use the touch bar I'm guessing Apple will announce an even more magic eeyboard with it built in which will go with the refreshed iMacs when they arrive.

It's not that much more expensive than the current model. This is what surprises me about people complaining so much. Configure the old model to the same specs you'd buy (3.1 16gb ram 256 go hard drive for example) and it comes to $200 less than the new MacBook Pro. Yeah it's more expensive but not insanely so. I'm hoping they start delivering sooner rather than later since it looks like a lot of the people waiting decided they don't want to buy it now.

15". Quad core is just so much better. I can't say I'm that happy with my 13" mbp screen. It feels limited power wise.

Hello bright side..., count me in. :)
I didn't read all of your posts here...but i like the Thread-starter. He sound's pretty likeable. :p
Yes I love the new Macbooks and can't wait to get mine. But i have to survive a little bit. Hopefully I'm going to order mine next week.
I will go for a 15" 2,6GHz i7 16GB 512GB and Radeon 450 2GB. This is way enough for my needs (music production & video editing).

So i hope it's going to be fun with you guys, while I'm waiting for the big day. :D
:apple:

but for me, a $3000 laptop that is built with utmost care and attention to detail has better value than a $1500 laptop that squeeks, has a bad trackpad and leaves you unsatisfied while you work.
I'm not sure that 3,000 laptop has been built with the upmost care, in fact the same factories that build the MBPs builds Apple's competitors.

Also, consider Apple's track record, failing GPUs, and staingate, plus a fairly high number of reports about the butterfly keyboard failing on the first generation macbook.

I'm not down on Apple, but I think the attention to detail that made Macs what they are today has slowly disappeared under Time Cook.

I bought a Surface Book laptop for about 1200 or there abouts, the build quality is exceptional, the trackpad is excellent and doesn't squeak, I'm more satisfied in my work, because I have 1,800 dollars in my bank account that wouldn't, had I spent 3,000. Especially since I can easily move my pictures from my camera to the SB via its SD card, something I cannot do with the new Macs, unless I buy another adapter. Plus the Surface Book as the nice easy detach power port (not as elegant as magsafe, but still nice).

For me the bottom line is picking the right tool for the job, Apple has shown a propensity of making a laptop thin just for the sake of thinness, while I do like the touch bar, the price is such, that I don't think I'm getting value - just my $.02

I think most people will be happy with the new Macbook Pro, i spec'd my 15 inch up to 2.9ghz and the AMD 460 card with 512gb SSD

It's about the same cost as what i paid for my 2010 Macbook Pro, so its less than i though i'd would have paid. (Australia dollar was weak at the time)

I see it as an investment over 4 years, so it's easy to live with, its not cheap, but nothing worth having is cheap.
