I've yet to see one in public either except at the apple store but thats a given

I don't plan to take my iPad out and about with me as I have my iPhone for that and its the one with 3GS. the Pad is Wi-Fi only. But I was away for the weekend and I took it with me. It was great to use as a book reader and to play a few games. I forgot to load a movie into it but hey I was outside enjoying summer and actually didn't use the iPad much. I didn't see anyone else on the ferry using one but I did get people looking at me when I took mine out to read for a bit.

I've had a few opportunities to use it in public. Mostly it's been to check 3G signals out and about (better reception than in my home, which I expected).

In fairness, I've not seen ANY Nook's or Kindles out in the wild nor any other eReading devices, excepting the iPhone and the Touch.

I have not had it leave my side since I got it. It gets juiced by my bedside and fits in my bag. Sits next to my computer at work and I listen to my tunes durning the morning. Lunch time I look at a movie or TV show. The movie Avatar has been on there since the beginning and every once in a while I watch the big fight scene. After lunch I'm back to the music or have a book up for reading between times my machine is loading pages. By 4 I'm out the door and heading home. I read while I get dinner ready. Charge up while I walk the dog. Watch some Doctor Who on Netflex or sit at my computer and rip one of my movies. I have a huge collection and try to rip one a day or convert my PDF into EPUB and load into iTunes. I really like EPUB on iBooks. I get into bed and read some news, check on some apps, plan what I'm going to load the following morning. I rotate my movies and TV shows. On the weekends I take it with me to the Malls or the Flea market or my brothers house. When I eat out at Chick-fil-a I always have it out, same as when I'm at McDonalds or Popeye's. In fact it's always out when I eat.

I've seen Kindles frequently commuting on the DC Metro. Saw an iPad the other day. That was the second or third time I'd seen an iPad.

I take mine on the DC Metro occasionally. I go from the end of the line into the heart of DC. I will usually feel more comfortable reading it inbound to work than outbound at night. I have seen one or two other iPads- and a ton of Kindles!

Although the iPad is not yet officially released at home (Mexico) I see them very often in client meetings (I work for an IT distributor).

Also, I carry mine with me all the time instead of my trusty MBP, just left the lap at home turned on for remote access if I need to.

iLife right there :p

I take my iPad almost always with me and last week I saw another guy using one in the train. Everybody was looking at him. Now as I am writing this there are some kids around me that stare at my iPad :)

Yes, I'd like an answer to this too. I go around SF with my iPad all of the time during the school year when I'm up at Berkeley. I have no problems whatsoever... perhaps you are in South City where the crime rate is higher?
A higher crime rate in south city?? Hahahahahahaha that's the funniest thing I've ever read on these forums!

As far as the topic, I've seen a guy with his waiting to be seated at a BJs restaurant. That's about it.

And mine doesn't leave my house except for traveling (its wifi-only)

Not took mine out my room since I got it home.although I have used it everyday (only got it Monday)

Would possibly be more inclined to take it out if I had the 3G model.am going on holiday on Friday so will take it then, iPhone is nit jailbriken at the moment so I can't tether.shame I missed that flashlight app yesterday :(

I have to hide mine

I carry it everywhere but have to use it inconspicuously because so many people want a demonstration. Eye doc and onc doc both said they're getting one. Nurses too were wowed.

I haven't seen any actually, I did see a kindle once. Mine is wifi only. But I take it to work so I have music, and I take it with me out to dinner so the husband and I can play battleship or something while waiting to be seated/served. I've had a few people walk by the patio at my work and see me on it and ask about it. Sometimes I'll let them look at it with their eyes and hands as long as they don't pick it up  Most people dont usually want to touch it anyways. I just worry about it getting dropped, or ran off with. Usually I'll just demonstrate some of the cooler stuff :3
