Mine goes with me pretty much everywhere. The case I have (noreve) and the bag it goes in keep it pretty low profile so it's not showy. When I first got it and had the clear vue case I would get a lot of questions from curious folks.

The whole point for me was Portability and connectivity so that aspect has worked out perfectly.

So, I'm back from taking the iPad for its big day out. Unfortunately, it is not back with me.

I met my mother, she used it for hours and it went home with her.

Now I have an old iBook lying around somewhere .....

People really need to stop fearing getting robbed and just live their lives. What good is your iPad if you can't enjoy it when you want to? It's not THAT special. And easily replaceable. WTF? And yes, I've been robbed. Had a car stolen 16 days ago, from my garage even...got a new one. It sucked but I would take that over my health failing any day. Live your life--be free.

Yes, I'd like an answer to this too. I go around SF with my iPad all of the time during the school year when I'm up at Berkeley. I have no problems whatsoever... perhaps you are in South City where the crime rate is higher?

Same here...berkeley might be a little sketchy but sf is fine.

If any one is sitting in barnes and noble in elicott city, I am right by the childrens books lol.

Ummm, no, i manage large wifi hotspots and that is our Las Vegas location stats since March 11. What seems more logical to you, I spent hours of my time making this up or i copied and pasted report results?

Hard to make up numbers that are counted by their unique Mac address and user agent wouldnt you agree?

Depends. I've seen people waste 10 minutes or more writing complete rubbish. No harm in asking :p

Interesting that you manage large amount of wifi hotspots --> premium service?

I'm definitely in the group of those that take it with them everywhere.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks now, and have taken it with me out of the apartment every day since then. To work for keeping calendars (can't stand outlook), reading wsj, ny times, financial times, and keeping notes from client meetings. I also keep lots of PowerPoint presentations in the keynote / iDisk app, and PDFs in the iBooks / iDisk app.

I'm heading out to California for the next few days, and have all of my meeting prep / client financials on here in PDF form rather than in huge stacks of paper like my boss will be bringing on the flight.

I've seen tons here in NYC, especially in starbucks (since July 1) and airports. These things are in everyones hands at la guardia, and I'm happy to be one of them!

Agreed! Breath and stop worrying. :)

Right on! I agree, and Berkeley is mostly fine (I attend UC Berkeley as a student and a faculty member/professor assistant) except the sketchy parts in People's Park and Telegraph that give it a super low-class urban feel. I take my iPad around the campus from class to class daily and it's all great... SF is even better, so I wouldn't know what the problem is.

I agree. I never really thought about leaving my iPad home for that reason unless I'm in a scary high crime area, but then I'd be more worried about me without the help of my iPad. lol. The new iPhone is hot also, so is that not answered if it rings or left at home also? If I felt that way, I'd carry my purse in a garbage bag so it's incognito too.

I'm in Madrid, Spain. In my department there are now several iPad so I do get to see others, but I've also been carrying mine around like a book on the underground, in the street and in bars since April with no problems whatsoever.

I don't carry mine around, though I have a case and a bag that I spent too much on if I choose to do so. It remains at home as another choice for browsing the web and viewing content. My iPhone does almost everything I could want from a computer that I carry everywhere. Plus, I can keep it with me in my pocket and always know where it is. That's a big plus over a laptop or an iPad because I don't have to worry about a laptop bag being visible from inside the car, forgetting it somewhere, etc. I just don't have to worry about my iPhone because I always know where it is, and that's very convenient. I also don't have to carry around a bag.

You have less of a reason to own an iPhone if you're just going to make phone calls on it and use your iPad for everything else everywhere you go.

He probably wouldn't have said that if you had included a description of what it was... That just made it a strange post!

People took their playstation somewhere to use??? Strange....

I think I am the opposite of you.

I feel I am most apt to forget my phone versus my bag. I now carry my bag with my iPad almost everywhere. I did not take it to Lowe's (a home improvement store) yesterday when I went to buy a ton of pavers -- just my wallet and phone.

+1 for carrying it everywhere I go. The times it comes in handy are quite unexpected. Having the 3G makes all the difference, of course.

Use it for business, client meeting, strategic planning, reading. My MacBook is getting more and lonely but I can live with that because there're security checks everywhere you go here in Uganda - after the bombs last weekend. I used to live my MacBook in the boot when I didn't need it but cannot afford to leave anything in the car boot now.

The iPad couldn't have come along at a better time.

No, i work for a hotel company and we roll our own hotspots. Usage is free. That particular property averages ~2000 unique connections per month during the busy season.

So what do we make of the android numbers? Is it ossible that the android people just don't use wifi and use only 3G because I sure haven't seen any type of pickup in Android usage.

Everywhere

I've got the 16 gig, 3G and don't think it's left my side since it arrived about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks ago.

I live in Wexford (16 miles outside of Pitt) and most of the people there have iPhones and/or iPads. I see so many people carrying around new iPhone 4s and iPads... And I carry mine around just so I can browse the web and play Geometry Wars.

This very nearly happened to me this weekend! Took the iPad with me when I went out of town to visit my folks and my dad wanted to keep it. He changed his mind at the last moment when he decided to get a wifi only one instead. (Mine's 3G)

I occasionally take it with me while in town (if going out to eat alone for example), but unless traveling it's mostly a home device. However, I ALWAYS take it when I travel - use the e-reader and games on the plane. It's a great travel device, no question. I actually use it much more than I thought I would - since I can use PocketCloud to log into my work email, I very seldom take my laptop with me on quick trips now ...

Cheers

Rename thread:

"I never see any ipads in Starbucks. Do any of you like real coffee?"

But no havent seen any around my area at all...

I only had only one occasion to use it at the light of day for now. In front of the Arena, on Verona, Italy, a few days after the launch, and a lot of tourists started to "wow".;)

I remember when I first saw one. It was about 2 ft away from my eyes, resting in my palms. I, too, said "wow" then :)
