I have'nt seen people carrying iPad in local places, it's a little to big to bring to the supermarket, stores etc. I see it a lot in airports, train stations, etc, where people may be sitting for a while. I wish Apple would come out with a 5" iPad with the same resolution screen, I would carry it everywhere since you can put it in your pocket. Dell is supposed to come out with the the "streak" that is a 5" Android phone, it'll be interesting to see how well it does.

I only take mine to school. The funny thing is that my wife took it to a starbucks the other day and after seeing another person get "all nerdy" with his iPad, she decided not to take it out. Instead she used her iPhone (clearly not too nerdy).

What was this person doing by being "all nerdy"??

They have, the iPhone 4.

Mine comes with me to work every day. I use it for mail, taking notes in meetings and discussing quotes with customers.

For home - Mail, IRC, MSN, FB Music / Video.

I know I posted this earlier, but I am surprised I don't see more iPads at my local Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. I see all grades of laptops (and many MB's and MBP's) plus a fair number of netbooks but typically I'm the only one I ever see carrying an iPad. This morning I will be going for breakfast in downtown Raleigh (Big Ed's). I do this every Saturday while my wife works in her community garden and I always take my iPad to read the news while eating breakfast. I usually see a lot of people checking me out and the waitresses always comment on my "toy". I am surprised I see so few iPads as it has been a big seller in both our local Apple stores. I guess folks are just using them at home mainly.

I usually carry a few around

...with me, and pass them out to strangers. They seem to like it.

Twice now I've had complete strangers wonder over to comment on my iPad - once in a cafe, and once a lady sitting opposite me on the train.

To be honest I don't use it that much in public, at least in places that I'm not totally familiar with. It's still a very shiny, desirable device, and I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to do anything daft...

I currently only regularly use my iPad when out writing at my fave coffee shop, the cinema bar I hang out at sometimes, and at work. I'd only use it on public transport if it was a very long trip, such as a train trip.

I've used it a couple of times for map reading when out on the street, but only if with company.

It's like anything else - flaunt it and show off and you just ask for trouble.

I'm with wolfpack on this one. I am very surprised I do not see more in public.

Since I've had my release day 3G, I think I have only seen about three in public.

- Another guy at my local Starbucks
- A family using it to entertain their 3 year old at a Cheesecake Factory
- A girl at a mall sitting on a bench

Now, I have had a bunch of people tell me they were going to be getting one. Also, a couple co-workers say they have the wi-fi only one... and regret not getting the 3G one. :)

I don't see many in public either, but I bring mine out. Usually to starbucks or caribou to do some work. I use it to hold my ppts and pdfs which I study from for school. I bring out my skadoosh stand too so it looks even more weird.

I'd be happy to come use mine in London for you to look at if you'd buy me a plane ticket!

My wallet is incapable of opening wide enough to pay for a plane ticket!

However, I managed to pry it open wide enough to pay for a case so my iPad is now ready for a trip further afield. So, I'm now off to the Royal Festival Hall which provides the cheapskate's elusive London dream of free wifi.

You make this up?

Ummm, no, i manage large wifi hotspots and that is our Las Vegas location stats since March 11. What seems more logical to you, I spent hours of my time making this up or i copied and pasted report results?

Hard to make up numbers that are counted by their unique Mac address and user agent wouldnt you agree?

I carry my iPad to the office each day and I've carried my iPad out to the local pub a few times. Folks get interested when they see you browse the web or watch an online video somewhere it is not expected. I had one waitress tell me I didn't need to leave a tip, just to leave my iPad on the table when I left. :D

I've only seen it in Yorkdale Mall, I'm guessing it's because they are bringing it in the Apple store (for accessories/help).

I do carry it with me but I think I don't see it because they are afraid of getting jumped/stolen?

I keep seeing folks mention they don't carry their iPads due to fears of getting robbed. I have to say that would have never crossed my mind.

I guess they were showing off more than anything else. She said they were walking all around a very small Starbucks talking loudly about the iPad. We live in a relatively small city and not many people seem to own an iPad.

I take mine almost everywhere. I've seen them in public three times, including one today in Times Square. But I carry mine in an Orbino case to conceal it. I wouldn't use it in the middle of Times Square.

It made for quite the conversation piece at a Broadway play. I brought it with me anticipating a long wait, but ended up in a conversation with an elderly lady who had a history as a designer in the NY fashion district. I was more interested in her life than the iPad. She uses a Kindle, and felt that the iPad was too heavy.

In the theater, during intermission, a couple of people behind me had them. I passed mine around for people to play with (while keeping an eye on it - all old ladies), and helped one lady who was actually semi-tech savvy. I shared a list of good apps with her, but she knew her way around iPad. We had a great time.

After the play, I handed it to one of the stars in a case with the Playbill on top of it too be signed. Instead, he pretended to walk away with it :)

What a show off. My mom lives in a small town, and I warn her not to flaunt it inadvertently.

Today I was waiting for out of state guests to meet me near Central Park. While waiting, a homeless man asked for change. As a New Yorker, I don't accommodate everyone. But when I went into a little upscale ice cream parlor, sat and played on my iPad, I could see the homeless man looking at me. I could be him. I would never 'flaunt' my belongings in front of others. It's something I can afford and enjoy by God's grace on my life. People who wave their good fortune to be envied make me sick.

I take mine to the local minor league ball park almost every night, prop it up on the dugout and watch an MLB game using either Slingplayer or MLB at Bat. I've never seen another one in public. Almost every night someone asks if it's an iPad and if I mind if they watch over my shoulder. The only time someone ever asked "So, it's like a big iPod, right?" I replied "No, it's like a small HD television that plays porn on demand". That shut 'em up right quick. :D
