The shipping label shows the weight that he put on the label, not the actual weight.

Doesn't matter. eBay will side with the buyer no matter what. Even if you took a pic before closing the box up they can claim you removed it before shipping.

Never ship overseas. Period.

I have given up selling (maybe buying) on eBay because of the many issues.

Yes, the weight on the box is the weight the shopper put on the box. BUT that weight is checked & verified a lot more throughout the shipping process. It should be easy to prove if the phone was in the box. It might e a PIA, but u can verify it.

Bs craigslist is loaded with scam buyers. I listed an rmbp there and got NOTHING but scam offers all using the same approach.

True
but you can detect the scams before losing items or your RMBP

with ebay, someone can steal from you
and file a fraudulent case

Craigslist gives you the discretion to hold your item in hand
until you get the cash

sometimes ebay is too much a leap of faith

Okay, so I recently sold my old iPhone on eBay to some dude in Russia. He has 100% feedback, so I thought I would be safe. I put insurance on the package just in case. (signature confirmation was not an available option for overseas)

So just the other day, he filed a case on eBay saying that he did not receive the package. (I purchased the shipping label via ebay, and the tracking number says he received the package, but he notes that the phone wasn't in the box.)

He says he contacted the Russian post and they are investigating.

I'm scared that I'm going to be out of pretty much 400 bucks. I've heard that eBay ALWAYS sides with the buyer. It just isn't fair. I'm an honest seller with hundreds of perfect feedback.

I just don't understand why he filed a case. He's already guaranteed the money since I bought insurance. My instincts are telling me he has the phone. It's not fair that in the end I'm left with no phone and he's ending up with 400 dollars.

I contacted ebay right away, and they assured me that they wouldn't allow him to get a refund if the package says it was delivered.

I'm still scared though. I don't know what to do.
I have the serial and IMEI number. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Sounds like u scammed him or eitheir scammed yourself by selling items in Russia

If you are stupid enough to sell your item on CL to someone wanting it to be shipped, well, yes there are tons of CL scammers. If you simply say cash only and in person whnever a person makes this request, you are probably fine. The thing with eBay is, you don't know if you are dealing with a scammer, since all sales are shipping based. With CL, if a person asks to ship, it's almost certainly a scam.

Never, EVER sell overseas on ebay. I dont know what people do this. Just ship via USPS sig confirmation within the states.

Uncheck the international box and follow the rules = winning. :p

Ebay has a local pickup option. If you followed seller protection guidelines you are covered by ebay.

Also don't use PayPal. Get the buyer to wire transfer funds to your account. Can't you do this in the US ?
I gave up selling to Italy for the same reasons as expressed here.

he admitted he received the package, he just claimed the phone wasn't inside (as if customs took it out)

please tell me there is some sort of hope :(

This same thing happened to me with an iPod that I sold on eBay. Seller claimed he received an empty box. I stuck to my guns and eBay didn't take my money.

eBay sided with you because you met the seller protection rules.

Don't know if there's really anything you can do front he way the replies are sounding. That is part of the reason I only ship to the US 48 Continental States (sometimes all 50, but never international).

You are screwed.

SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME, CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'RE F'D. I lost the phone, the money and my insurance. Post office denied my claim because they said that the country I shipped to was not authorized to receive iPhones (Shipped to UKRAINE). Clearly the costumes agent stole it. NEVER SHIP TO RUSSIA!!! EVER!

Sorry bro.

T-X

These scams are everywhere and they'll never stop as long as there are people naive enough to send their packages out of the country. Sell local. Only advice I can give really.
