then what's the point of this thread again?

I see. Someone has to like something 100% and have no complaints, or else sell it. Must be interesting to live in such a black and white world.

I agree 100% with the OP. These are all rather strange omissions. I have been playing around with the watch faces quite a bit and they all seem to have one problem or another. They all seem rather arbitrary about what complications and design options they allow. Still, it's just the first day. I'm sure things will evolve and (hopefully) we'll get some sort of watch face store eventually.

Why do you need to see the seconds? Genuinely curious here.

Because I use public transportation daily, and Japanese trains are almost always on time. Like, to the second. So if a train timetable says 14:18 and it's now 14:17, I may have 59 seconds to get to the train or one second - big difference between the two.

Honestly, this also goes to show why "Designed in California" might not always be the best thing when trying to make products for an international audience. I doubt it occurred to any of the engineers and designers involved with the creation of the Apple Watch that seconds display on a watch face might be really important for people who don't DRIVE to work every day. The fact that you even had to ask this question illustrates this perfectly! ;)

I keep reading more and more of these strange replies on Mac rumors lately. As if it has become one big fan forum: either join our praise of the holy Apple or get out and sell your stuff.
What's wrong about complaining about a missing seconds display? It's a WATCH!
Apple just released 3 ads for it: The Watch Is Here!
And what's the other thing, about it being 50ms off at most. Kind of an strange statement to make when you can only see "minute" intervals.

And great example of the trains in Japan :)

Beyond the practical reasons that people might need a seconds display, some people might just prefer to have one. It should be an option, just like there should be an option to have a digital display where the time is more prominently placed (and no, I don't count the X-LARGE face).

Ah, i see, thanks!

No seconds display is a battery saving option. Showing seconds means the screen is refreshing more often and the battery is draining. It should still be a user option.

I don't buy this at all. We can have Mickey Mouse tapping his foot and an animated jellyfish, but a seconds display is just too much?

I totally agree with this, and with the OP. Overall, I am very impressed with the watch, even though I have only had it for a few hours. I am a little disappointed in the lack of customization of the watch faces. I think you should be able to add colored backgrounds, the time bars, minutes/hour hands and second hands. This would really make it more unique to each person.

I am surprised actually that only the seconds had is able to change the color in some of the faces. Hopefully Apple will allow for third parties to make watch faces in the near future.

I also use public transport and hope a transport app will become available for the Apple Watch to show me details i need to be on time. I have it installed on my iPhone but prefer to see it on my Apple Watch.

Feels weird saying "My Apple Watch" because I don't have it yet :(

And lose all the other great features that I love? Hell no. I'd much rather Apple simply give the Apple Watch better timekeeping displays.

I agree, but Im sure you will get all these in no time. I think we will se a lot of system updates on this.

Agreed

This is one of my complaints too.. Since Apple claims the watch is so accurate, I wanted to use it to set my automatic watches with it. I could still do this with one of the faces that have a second hand but prefer seeing the seconds in digital form. I think so far I like the digi readout the most as the analog faces are a bit small compared to my other watches. In any case we definitely need more options, Apple..

Chibatastic

So are you saying my second hand is permanently sitting at 8 seconds?? lol

The only faces I like are the astonomy and Jellyfish, but the jellfish takes to long to show up. It should just be there when I lift my wrist rather than fading in. So the only way you see it is if you hold up your writs for two seconds. Small gripe.

Just wait though, devs will do some really cool things with it.

I suppose you think an iPhone is a phone...

That's actually a really good comparison! One of the great things about the iPhone is that it functions well as a phone, even better than other phones I had in the past. The same cannot be said of the Apple Watch's watch functionality. ;)
