Everyone has different desires. I desire that one day they make an even bigger AppleWatch than the one they just released.
I agree. I would literally like a cuff-like device, like Taranga Leela. I have bigger arms, though, so it wouldn’t be crazy looking (I hope).

I guess all the folks talking about "large watches look tacky" are the same folks saying iPhone 4 was ideal and that the Plus phones looked like an iPad. Fast forward a few years and everyone walks around with Pro Max that's almost the size of an iPad Mini.

My wrist is 165mm, with the above formula I should have the 38mm model LOL. I currently have the 44mm and will likely get the 45mm today.
There's a difference between a phone or a tablet, and something you wear; like a shirt, or a jacket, or pants, or a watch...

In your opinion of course …….

It’s really no difference to fashion sense …. Your style is probably not my style ….. but it doesn’t necessarily make one or the other ‘tacky’

I managed to experience the Series 7 watches in person today and would like to share my thoughts, or rather, concerns after doing so!

Context: Apple Watch user since Series 0, always going for the larger size of the two as I progress from series to series. Current daily driver is a Series 6 Nike Cellular, Space Grey, 44mm.

When I first saw the Series 7 today, the increased screen size jumped at me more than I expected. The difference was really obvious when I wore it side by side:

My immediate take on it is that.. it is too big! It just looks a little disproportionately big. Here's a shot of just the S7 (45mm) on my wrist.

The smaller S7 was there too, so I put it on and it immediately felt right.

The simple solution seems to be... to just get the smaller one! But... I have quite a collection of bands for the larger size already.

I walked away thinking... maybe I should just keep the S6 though that does not seem like a long-term solution, if this trend continues. The S6 size actually seems to be just right for me...

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who may think that the larger size is now too big?
It does look a tad big BUT you should wear what you like. Knowing it’s a little computer strapped to your wrist I don’t think anyone would care.

To be honest, my only concern is the measuring of the bands now. I have not purchased any of the new bands, due to this 'measuring' thing.
Besides that, I feel the larger watch actually looked nice on your wrist. Alas, that is merely my opinion...

My wrist size is 16,5 cm. I've owned both sizes in the last two years and liked them both equally. In my tiny little world I think both look absolutely perfect on me. I would totally always go by what I prefer, no matter what people say. I've done the same with mechanical watches. I like them big and small. Whatever you like best. Listen to your gut. If you're feeling good with it, keep it. If it doesn't feel right, do something different. This year I will opt for the bigger one.

Left is the small one, right is the bigger one.

I would that is spot on. My wrist is 17.5cm and the 40/41mm fits with wrist showing too and bottom. If I went bigger, then it would just be a screen dominating the entire top side of my wrist.
The original post gives the wrist measurements in mm and says to multiply by 2.3. So according to that post, you should be wearing a 402mm watch face.

Now if we’re doing it properly, you’d take your measurement in mm or convert to mm and then multiply by .23. Then it’s recommending the 40/41mm size.

I’m a mechanical engineer so I don’t measure anything.

Thanks, corrected it in the OP.

i’m concerned too… man here with small 162mm wrists, wear a size 4 in the solo loop for reference. i like my 44mm S6 and don’t think it is “too big” but it seems right on the edge you know? the trend in watches is bigger, bigger, bigger with even rolex updating many of their classics to have larger faces. i don’t think anyone will think that 45mm looks too big on you in person, but YOU need to be happy. the photos create an illusion… we all take pictures close up and it makes the watch look much larger. you want to take a picture from a bit of a distance, almost like you arm dangling by your side from chest height. that gives a better view of how the watch actually looks in real life.

that said the 41mm is now in terms of screen size nearly the same size as the screen on the old 44mm so suddenly it becomes an option for those like us on the border.

i get my 45mm today and i think i’ll get used to it. unless i immediately know its absurd i plan on not moving smaller.

ok so i got the S7 45mm, it looks great. my concerns were unfounded. is the watch face large on my 162mm wrist? yes, but it doesn't look weird at all, i've asked a bunch of people including my family and they think it looks great as a guy. it does skew guy watch / sports watch but thats the trend in 2021... if you like high fashion watches or if your a woman with small wrists (where the larger watch trend still exists but not to the same extent) I think you may prefer the 41mm, but anyone who was happy with the 44mm, will still be happy with the 45mm.

BTW: the S7 upgrade is way larger than I anticipated coming from the S6. the screen is really a significant upgrade, easily the largest change in the Apple Watch for me since the jump from S3 -> S4 and a much bigger change than things like the always on display, O2 sensor, and faster processors of the last couple years. i think most underestimated just how big an impact the screen was going to be.

Agree, and underrated in most of the reviews, at least in my opinion.

Going from a 44 to a 45 isn’t that much of a difference. Sometimes your initial reaction is it’s too big but after a day you get used to it and it’s fine.
tAke the 44 off you wrist and see how the 45 looks

I was under the impression the extra 1mm is screen size, not physical case size on the watch. The screen is supposedly closer to the edge without increasing the actual size of the watch itself.

How does this effect those staying with the larger or smaller watches when nothing has really changed??? Am I missing something?

The Apple specs say that the S7 is one mm longer than the S6 but the same width and the same thickness.

44/45 mm refers to the height of the whole watch. The new watch is one millimeter taller. That's almost certainly imperceptible in the hands and for the eyes of most people.

But the screen inside the bezel is about 20% bigger, compared to the previous generation. There's barely any black bezel around the display now. And while that doesn't make it feel any different to wear, it does look different for the eyes. All watch faces are bigger and more spaced out. Gigantic, if you ask me.

For the actual content inside the bezels, the old 44 mm and the new 41 mm watch are almost equivalent to the eye and index finger. Same size, same proportions. That's how much both watches expanded, display-wise, this year.

I have small wrists, and even going from a 44mm to the 45mm I got used it is in a day or two. Unless the larger size was physically uncomfortable for the user, I think the larger screen is well worth it.

Note, I'm no fashion plate and I don't think the 45mm looks like some kind of medical device. Granted if you think the Apple Watch should look like a traditional watch, then of course scale down and enjoy the more fashionable look.

My priorities of course could be different than others. Function over fashion is my credo. Though I think the 45mm in Graphite looks great!

lol so funny reading this thread seeing men assert their masculinity by their wrist size…. but yeah agree the smaller case size suits your wrist way better.
I went with 40mm for my S5 because it made my wrist look bigger.

I also have a 44mm S4 and just checked the battery and am at 77% already… still mostly enough for all but the longest days. Would only really consider an upgrade for a redesign and/or blood glucose if that ever materializes. My two parents are diabetic so even if it was just vague trends rather than precise metrics, it could be useful for me.
