So in looking at these pictures it looks like you have a charger or something behind the new watches. I think that’s making them sit way forward on your wrist and making them look much bigger, especially compared to your old watch. The new 45mm watch is 1mm taller, but exactly the same width as the old 44mm watches. The size difference shouldn’t be that noticeable.

Thanks for pointing that out! It’s actually attached to an anti-theft device, which isn’t too thick. May affect the way the watch rests on my arm though.

I highly recommend to use a non-black watch face with the 7. Then it's very obvious to me. When using a black watch face they look identical to me.

I've never ever used non-black watch faces before due to the big ass bezels, but now they look gorgeous with the thinner bezel.
The only problem is I’m addicted to the Infograph Modular face. I love how much information it displays at once.

Hopefully with the series 8 they will make a 47mm watch for me :D I have very average sized wrists for a guy and I think a 47mm would look just great, and the screen area would be something like 25% larger than the series 7. Now that would rock.

It’s very unclear what you are showing photos of …… you are not showing your S6 against S7 ? The case sizes are the same on S6 and S7 but the display is bigger ….. you have a side by side of 2 different cases ….. are you sure your S6 is 44 ?

Yep. My S6 is a 44mm which I was comparing with the S7 45mm.

Thanks for sharing this, I also was worried and couldn’t decide between the two sizes. 45mm is definitely too big for my wrist…!

Then again, not saying everyone should go with the 41mm. Anyways thanks for sharing you helped me big time!

Cheers,
You are most welcome. I posted this just to share with the community, as the size difference surprised me more than I expected it to. No matter, as some have pointed out, perhaps the perspective and other factors may have affected how this is perceived? Best will be still to experience this in person. I am just glad I did before I bought it online.

Yes the big one is obviously too big for you. Can you please tell us your wrist size though? The pictures don’t really tell us anything without knowing your wrist size. I’m guessing 165mm or smaller?
Just measured! My wrist size is 16cm.

Only two people in this entire thread have stated their wrist size. I have a 170mm wrist and this is mine. Hate the band but i think the size is ok. 41mm

IMO I think the larger size does look out of proportion to your wrist, however, many people like their watches like that… me personally I would go the smaller size

My wrist is <170mm, and I tried both the 41mm and the 45mm today. I've used 44mm for a few years.
Even though the 41mm may have exactly the same display size as my current 44mm, the case of the 41mm is very small.
As soon as I looked at the 41mm, I just thought "that's a lady watch".
Picked a 45mm starlight and it's awesome so far.

I couldn’t go up in size for visual reasons on my wrists but I’ve also got around 10 sport bands for the smaller size. To replace them would cost hundreds. Did you not have that issue?
I’ve got a couple of modern buckles and two nike sport bands. To be honest I’m going to sell those and give the Nike sport ones to my daughter who has my old 3. I only really switch between a silicon one when swimming and a nike sport loop.

My wrist is kinda small so the smaller one probably looks better but after cataract surgery the bigger size is better since I don’t have to pull out my reading glasses to see the info.

I went to a store and turns out the wrist band size tool is useless. I got a size 6 out of it. Turns out I’m actually a 2 or 3. So no 45mm for me, unless I go for traditional bands.

Men wearing watches with lugs extending over their wrist is embarrassing looking. Makes them look like children borrowing daddy’s watch.

Been popular in the real watch world for a decade now with bezels slowly getting larger YoY across model ranges, so it’s unsurprising that Apple has followed suit. It will sell well. But if you do have a small wrist and want to look good wearing a watch, go for the smaller size.

Reasonable concern. Traditional men’s watches never are larger than 40mm. Sports watches may be 2-3mm larger but at 45mm a watch is generally considered oversized. Apple’s watch trend is indeed strange.

I have both as well and the way the picture looks it’s much bigger. However you don’t exactly have them aligned and the difference in real life isn’t as dramatic as that picture makes it look in my opinion. The fact is that they are almost the exact same size but the screen on the 7 is bigger. Here is a picture of my 6 and 7 side by side. The 7 is on the left. Not a huge difference at all.

This cracked me up because I'm the same! I really really want to use another watch face but I can't break up with Infograph Modular 😂😂

In your opinion of course …….

It’s really no difference to fashion sense …. Your style is probably not my style ….. but it doesn’t necessarily make one or the other ‘tacky’
I've been told I have no style. But maybe that's a style in and of itself? I've also been told I can't dance. I feel as though that's a much more verifiable statement. 😂

My first impression: Synchronising my new watch right now and the OP is totally right: The new display is a monster! The 6 looks like a toy from years ago. Feels like a watch 6 compared to a watch 3. What a difference!
Regarding the color: I´m coming from a red 6 and now starlight is real different. It looks for me more like a soft gold than silver. Will be hard to get used to. But I will keep it. The red 6 is sold already and there is no way back.
Old band fits without problems.

This is an opinion, not a fact, but I agree with you. I had a polished stainless steel series 4 although I ultimately wound up with a silver aluminum series 4. The highly reflective polished stainless steel case made the watch appear smaller than the silver aluminum version, at least to me.

This is a 44mm Graphite S6 next to a 44mm SB SS S5 I took last year. Both the same size yet the Graphite looks larger due to the angle, etc.

This is exactly what I was talking about. However, I think that the effect is smaller with the series 7 because the edges of the case have become smaller.

I have a pair of Rolex Subs from the 1970s. When you compare them to the current and recent versions of the Sub, it is astonishing how big those watches have become. The case size back in the 1960s and 1970s, even the 1980s, was by today’s standards very small and svelte.
