Totally agree. I used my kid's 4th gen iPod touch this week and it felt much more natural than trying to reach certain areas of the iPhone 5 screen. I miss it. Always felt like the perfect size to me.

You want another new choice in between ipad mini and iPhone. I think it's not needed. The business end user often has a brief case that is easily large enough to fit an iPad or iPad Mini in. This is right tool for the right job issue. The iPhone is not the best e-book reader because of it's size. But the iPhone is not trying to be an e-book reader.

Also Apple should not enter every little niché market. Apple tried that in the 1990's and it almost bankrupted them. Just pick a few markets that you can milk for profit and be done with it.

Have you ever went to a marathon meeting? Like 5 of them on different places one after another? Not bringing a brief case is definitely better.
And being able to quick peek into your phone's screen without turning into chinese man every time surely better for eyes either.

A trend driven by media consumption on a "Phone" trying to be all things to all people.

Duh of course not that big sherlock.

If someone wants to carry around a bigger device they can always use Facetime audio on the mini with a pair of headphones (of course, only with another apple device user!).

My perfect size phone was the HTC Aria. Too bad they don't make phones that size anymore. It was very thin and wasted no space around the LCD.

I'm used to the size of the iPhone 5 now, I don't mind it, definitely not a deal breaker... but I'd buy an Aria sized iPhone in a heartbeat if they sold one.

The rest of the Aria sucked, processor was slow and I've never been happy with app selection on Android.

LOL! In the circles I swim in, I seldom (if ever) see anyone not lugging a briefcase or some kind of lightweight shoulder "bag" to a meeting. It's standard gear. And inside are laptops and tablets. The only time I ever see a phone is when people turn their ringers off then set them aside. (And god help the sorry bastard who forgets to do so.)

Sayeth who... you? Somebody did it. There it is... right in front of your face. (Duh).

A large number of Apple customers are just too vain to choose functionality over style. It's their insecurity that causes them to worry about what others think.

Am I the only one that actually prefers their phone to be somewhat “mobile”? (Yes, it’s a cell phone first and foremost to me).

3.5” on my iP4/4s is just right, even with my crappy eyesight. I like to carry mine in a front shirt pocket. Nekkid - no gaudy bumper that turns it into a brick that totally contradicts it’s slim design. I do everything on my 4S. Have my entire library of books and can read them quite nicely. Movies? doable but is 6” really any better? Is *any* screen really big enough when watching a movie? Besides, I never put myself in a position where I need to watch video on a “cell phone”.

Don’t understand this clamoring for big-assed displays in phones that only make them cumbersome and unwieldy. (But you do look downright funny with a phablet stuck to the side of your head).

Uh, they still are selling the 4S for the .0000001 % that want smaller screens. Seems lik an odd request though.

I would be very pissed if I was forced to use a bigger one (if I want bigger I'll use my iPad mini).

No one is forcing you to upgrade to a bigger phone. Stick with the 4S if you'd like a smaller screen. Yes, it may not have all the latest bells and whistles but if it's all about the screen, no one is holding a gun to your head.

Now that Apple uses the incredibly clear retina display, I'm sure a 2.5" display would be perfectly legible. Benefits would be much longer battery life and an end to all the complaints from users that don't really need a smartphone anyway. With an iPhone so uniquely Apple... they'd have bragging rights for years. :)

Well then the definition of meeting for you and me is different. For me, it's more like you meeting with another people discussing or inspecting this big oil rig with 600 small components in a big yard. You do first meeting in a room for health and safety executive meeting, maybe just for 10 mins. So i am well aware 4.5 or 5'' is better overall for me.

Duh I think people with common sense does know, if someone needs screen that big there is ipad mini instead.

Agree with this. I have been looking for a small screen smartphone. There are no new, quality, smallform smartphones available in the U.S. market at all. Only thing I see is something like the Xperia mini and overseas variants, not all of which are available in US.

Really hoping Apple doesn't go to a bigger screen with iPhone as well. But I am in the minority, seems worldwide trend is bigger screens. I hate these phone monstrosities.

Agree. I like the 3.5 screen as well.

Their marketing for the 5 was BS. it does not fit in your hand and you can not sweep you finger from top to bottom. people must have giant hands, because 3.5 fits perfectly in my hand the 5 is too tall.

How can a 1/2 inch be the difference between perfection and being overwhelmed?

Seriously, this thread is sooo hilarious. You guys who are all crying about Apple keeping the smaller screen size will most likely get your way. The phones that are 4.5"+ devices are the ones that are still continuing to innovate, something that Apple has seemingly stopped doing a while ago.

No one forces you to buy any smartphone from any vendor.
From the statement I quoted, it seems like there is some sort of entity forcing you to have the latest phone, so let's hope it will not feature a larger screen. Otherwise I'll just suffer when blindly buying it.

Try to get a "regular" phone these days. You have maybe 1 or 2 choices.

My initial words didn't mean that at all. I meant nothing else besides I just don't want a bigger screen, just as you seem like you want a bigger screen. Just a difference of opinion. If I don't like the phone, I would just stick with my 5.

I want all the technology innovation that hopefully will come with the iPhone 6 but still want it to nicely fit in my pocket. Having two sizes would give both options, but who knows what they will do.

If I want to continue to upgrade iphones but they started making huge ones and stopped making normal sized ones, then I would be forced to get that huge size if I want to keep getting iphones (because I love the Apple products).

I think it's pretty clear that I didnt mean someone would be holding a freakin' gun to my head. Geez.

I guess to please those of you who are flipping out about this, "force" is probably not the right word.

4" screen is nice.
It would be nicer with 960 x 540 (16:9) resolution on acount the growing 16:9 movies everywhere and the youtube standard.
In alternative make it 1280 x 720, but keep th 4".

Not bigger!
Otherwise (as I said before in this forums) we'll be carrying bricks instead of phones.

By the way, this is Monster Brick

just as you seem like you want a bigger screen. Just a difference of opinion. If I don't like the phone, I would just stick with my 5.

I haven't stated I want a bigger screen. I was noting how your post could have been written by a fanboy who complains about a product he would blindly end up buying, driven by some obscure force to like whatever Apple release without personal opinions.
I'm glad you're not one.

What if some innovative feature requires a bigger screen? Would you sacrifice one handed use for something new?
An example could be more options in the interface at a glance, since more would potentially fit in a bigger screen; or a different form factor to allow more battery.

iPhones?... iPads?...

In case iPhone's screen sizes increase, what do we want the iPad for? What will be iPad's function?

I think we're not aware of when an device ceases tob a phone and starts to be a pad and are confusing ourselves.

So it's really about what we want.
If anyware in the future with iPads, there will iPhone with a larger screen than the current's, I won't buy it, period.

haha, no I am not one. I will not be buying the 5s and am quite happy with my 5. Honestly, I don't know if I would. If the screen ended up being a lot bigger like the Samsung Galaxy or some of the really large, tablet looking android phones I think I would probably stick to my 5 unless it had some seriously new innovations.

I don't actually use it one handed, my hands are pretty small but I like having it fit in my pocket. :)

Somebody did what, exactly? That's a tablet, not a phone. A picture of someone putting it up to their head to make it look like a giant phone, doesn't make it a real phone.
