I am with you on this big time!

I hope with the iPhone six they do three screen sizes, one a tad smaller than the iPhone 4 was, one the size of the 5, and one that is larger.

I'd probably do the smallest because for my phone, smaller is better making it more mobile. If I want to do something in the iOS environment on a larger screen, I bought the ipad mini for that. If I can't do it on the ipad mini, I have a MacBook Air 11" and if that is too smal, I can use my 67" TV as a computer monitor.

Apple would do well with different screen sizes available, IMO.

Those don't have a phone chip. It's one extra item that some don't want to have to carry.
You are correct. But if if people want to make a phone call they buy a phone. If they want to buy an e-reader, they buy a tablet. If they want to do both well they have both devices. If you don't want both devices on you, then you get a good reader or a good phone and not both.

Am I the only one that actually prefers their phone to be somewhat “mobile”? (Yes, it’s a cell phone first and foremost to me).

I wish more people would think like this. If you want a bigger screen, get a freaking tablet! It's a phone, not a tablet. There is a reason why Steve Jobs stated back in 2007 that 3.5" was the best and ideal size for the iPhone. Given that it took Apple 3 years to make the iPhone, I would be inclined to agree (more so with my experience with 4" and 3.5").

People want to do more with their phones than they did back then.

Editing spreadsheets and such on a 3.5" screen? Yeah, good luck with that.

With the rise of larger screened Android phones having a bigger market share globally, I wouldn't be suprised if the iPhone 6 was a 4.3" screen but within the same form factor. It's all about the bezels.

People wanted to do more and more on their netbooks. But Apple said no, do it on a tablet, it's better. Same deal with phones. if you want tablet optimised apps, use a tablet. And use a phone as a phone.

The 5 is just a tad bit bigger as a whole than the 4-4S, but the bigger size of the screen is very noticeable , the way they did it is good and does not affect most people under ~5'5" so I don't understand your complaint TS.

Form factor is the biggest thing, as long as apple can keep more or less the same size of the device and put a bigger screen in it, then they will do it and makes sense.

Like I said, it's a phone, not a work computer. Want to edit a spread sheet? Do it on an iPad, Windows Tablet or a desktop/laptop. A phone is not for that. That is a reason why I dislike Apple promoting iWork for the iPhone. Kinda pointless to market a phone as a serious work instrument. I can see it as quick presentation maker, but not as a tool to make a serious report or financial analysis.

Because they don't want to carry a tablet as well.

Ok then, lets take the camera out of the phone too. You now have to carry a separate camera. It's exactly the same attitude.

It's not to create entire workloads on the phone but for amending things on the fly. Having the ability to do something, is far better than not at all.

3.5" is far too small for an all round device that plays games, watch movies, dabble with spreadsheets etc and I am glad Apple realized this.

I have the 4S, and I can easily play all my games without problem. Your camera analogy doesn't work in this case.

The camera on a phone has always been classified not as a professional class camera, but as a simple point and shoot. Apple however markets the iPhone on par with a laptop device. Not the same when editing spreadsheets.

Personally, I agree with the OP. I think the screen size of the iPhone is just right. I have the 4S currently, but am going to upgrade to the 5S when eligible. I have no want for a massive phone screen.

I see why some people want bigger screens as well, some use their phones as a main source of entertainment (why, I have no idea). Personally, I watch television and movies on my...well...television. To each their own though, I think some people forget that everyone has different tastes and preferences ;)

I like to use my iPhone not just for being a brick 1990's call phone. Especially when i'm always stuck in the car every day with 1-2 hours traffic jam while my driver drives. But i don't like bringing a gay ipad mini or ipad everywhere like an idiot. Bigger screen in 4.5-5'' would be easier for my eyes, at least my eyes don't need to go cing cang cong everytime and my neck doesn't have to be a camel neck.

Let's hope Apple doesn't forget it. But I think 4" is where it will be. Now... if they can put that in the same overall footprint as the iP4/4s, I'm ok with that.

I guess to please those of you who are flipping out about this, "force" is probably not the right word.

Yes, this is true. This is what threw me off. But I also understand where you're coming from. I skipped the iPhone 5, and I'm skipping the 5S. But, I'm the exact opposite. I enjoyed the larger screen I had with my Galaxy S3, and would love an option to see iOS in a larger format.

I use spreadsheets on my iPhone 5 all the time, and used them on my iPhone 4 as well, and didn't have any problem with the size of the screen, especially because of the retina display.

It's good when we can respect each others' point of view (as opposed to the normal bashing on this site from both sides).

People who really want a bigger screen are just as upset as those who like the smaller screen (me) would be if they stopped offering it.

The strange thing now, though, is that they have two phone versions (S and C). If they decide to offer a size choice in 6, would they make it for both S and C or just one of them?

Agree. I like the 3.5 screen as well.

Their marketing for the 5 was BS. it does not fit in your hand and you can not sweep you finger from top to bottom. people must have giant hands, because 3.5 fits perfectly in my hand the 5 is too tall.

I can reach the whole screen without shifting my grip on my 5.

Although I am happy with the iPhone screen size, everyone is different. I also think Apple should consider making an iPhone with a larger screen available to consumers who want that. Seeing as I see many people on this specific forum wanting a bigger screen size on their iPhone, they should consider it. But then again, I doubt apple employees, who have a say in the design, crawl these forums for suggestions on the iPhone. Then again, who knows ;)

I have..average sized hands, I guess. Can't palm a basketball or anything, so they're not huge. I can easily sweep my thumb from top to bottom of my iPhone 5.

3.5” on my iP4/4s is just right, even with my crappy eyesight. I like to carry mine in a front shirt pocket. Nekkid - no gaudy bumper that turns it into a brick that totally contradicts it’s slim design. I do everything on my 4S. Have my entire library of books and can read them quite nicely....
interesting. myself, given the choice between the too-tall iphone 5 and the 4S chose the 4S (bought it new when the 5 came out). i see absolutely no use for more vertical height when the screen is so dang skinny and small. total waste if you ask me and no one asked for a taller-only update.

now, show me an iPhone with the 4S screen ratio in a 4.8" iphone and i'm all over that.
