NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Love the bookshelves, glad to see it didn't get changed in iOS7 at first.

Hate how apple just changes **** without giving us any options.

Just turned off my app update auto download to avoid this change as long as possible.

Did you try scrolling down to change to view back to bookshelf?

So, I've been pretty vocal in my career (I write iOS apps) as to how much I don't like the "deference" argument in iOS 7. I mean, look at how ugly that list view is? That list view in the right image (for the posts/assignments) is just awful. It doesn't look clean, or minimal. It seems cluttered and extremely noisy.

Am I the only one who thinks so? So many blue artifacts makes the use of the color pointless. You can select certain blue things. Certain blue things are just more blue indicating they are selected and some things have such a minimal use of blue that the only think you can do is just try tapping on everything with blue to see if anything happens. It's awful. Again, IMHO. :(

Keep in mind, this is just the beginning of a bold new direction. Not everything is going to be 100% there yet. They're still figuring out this whole deference concept. Much like Aqua in 2001, it took them years to get the Aqua look figured out. Apple tends to overshoot new design directions, and then slowly work its way back. Aqua was changed dramatically in just the first 3 releases of OSX.

But I also think a lot of it is having to adjust. Remember, Aqua gave designers much the same reaction back in 2001 as iOS 7 is today with people like you. After using iOS 7 for a while now, I've fallen in love with the DIRECTION, not necessarily every single design decision. I look back at iOS 6 now and think it looks so corny compared to 7.

I change to the list view. Like it much more, hated the bookshelves. Yeah it might be a "colder" look but what I'm interested in is my book, not the bookshelf.

I feel as though with all the political shake up surrounding Scott Forstall, they went way overboard in taking out anything even remotely resembling skeuomorphism. Almost like it was out of spite, or the company trying to make a big statement. "Scott liked progress bars. Well screw that, no more progress bars! We're going to have a circular line that turns into a thicker circular line! Take that, Scott!"

I'm surprised they didn't change the layout of the number pad. "It looks like a phone pad! That's skeuomorphism! Let's have ours in a straight line instead!"

…. getting rid of the wooden bookshelf look that has been a hallmark of the app since it was released….

More like painted the bookshelf white grey. Just like most other "removals" of skeumorphism in iOS 7.

It always bugged me that the bookshelf had no depth (when the bookshelf spun around to the store, you could tell that it was just a flat image). I'm glad that it is gone.

iBooks looks absolutely beautiful with these updates. There is no other app like it on any platform. Only Apple can do this. I'm so happy they keep giving us more and more for free!!!

Ugh, why would they do away with the look of iBooks? It actually had a unique look and feel that set it apart from all the other e-readers and now it's just more of the same. :\

I'm not big on them but the look of iBooks was making me more apt to use them instead of paper books.

Yes, because that's what graphic designers do.

Regardless, spending time on making an app look like a physical wooden bookshelf is pointless IMO. I switched to the list view and prefer it to the wooden bookshelf.

My guess is over time the whiteness will be toned down. I wouldn't be surprised if iOS 8 is less stark based on user feedback.

Now, update Keynote Remote, iTunes Connect, and Find My Friends! :D

Find Friends in many cases requires your friends to re-accept your querry when they updated to iOS7. Don't know what causes this requirement for some users and not others. Best I can tell from the limited friends I have is that those switching to the new iPhone 5 need to re-establish their approval.

"iBooks has been updated with a beautiful new design for iOS 7".

What an insult to the previous designers.

Oh please. I think the iPhone 5 is beautiful. Does that mean I'm insulting the iPhone 4? No, I think one beautiful phone replaced another beautiful phone.

Where do they say that the old design was ugly? They don't say that. So why are you assuming the worst? I think one beautiful things can replace an older beautiful thing.

No

If you are an actual developer, and you have access to the WWDC 2013 session videos, I would suggest watching some of them. The Apple designers get on stage and talk about their thought process behind the design, why they did it, what they did, etc. They go through app-by-app talking about visual design, structural design, interaction design, and even psychological design, and explain exactly why they did these things and why they MAKE SENSE. Not to mention, when they compare to previous designs in iOS 6, they actually talk about how beautiful the designs were. There's no "this design was ugly so we replaced it with something beautiful." They say both designs are beautiful, and they explain what prompted change.

Remember, MOST of the people who worked on iOS 7 are the SAME people who worked on iOS 6. They're not spitting in their own faces, they're MOVING ON. We have Retina Displays and we have vastly more graphical power now in iOS devices. The user interface was due for a change. iOS 7 was planned as a redesign long before Forstall left. The visual direction might have even gone the same way if he were still there, none of us know except those who work on it.

There's no conspiracy theory here. There's absolutely no "spite" towards former employees. There's just very brilliant and talented engineers and designers talking about a topic they care deeply about. I'd highly recommend actually digging deeper into a topic before making absolutely ridiculously immature assumptions. These people at Apple are professionals, not little children running around an elementary school.

The Mona Lisa is a beautiful painting. That doesn't mean it's the only beautiful painting in the world. Nor does it mean that any new painting that is described as beautiful makes the Mona Lisa not beautiful.

iBooks now has a Windows 95 interface!

Bravo Ives!

Genius!

Impeccable!

Brilliant!

Encore, encore!
